Alex launched himself towards Jason, throwing a right hook. Jason smiled at Alex's attempt.
'Hmph.'
He stretched his palm out and moved to the side. Alex's fist landed on his palm from where Jason grabbed Alex's wrist and turned it slightly, using his attacker's momentum against himself.
Alex realized he was still mid-air, and he got knocked onto the ground.
--What was that?
The whole area was dim. He couldn't understand how could Jason could pull off such a move in these circumstances, with such precision nonetheless.
He waited until Jason came in range, rising up to get in a low kick. He swung his leg aiming at Jason's feet but felt nothing but air.
'Resistance is futile.'
Jason saw that move form a mile away and jumped to deliver a sharp kick on the chest.
'You are about a hundred years too early to challenge someone from WS.'
Alex got up again.
--WS? What's that? Never mind. Okay, no heavy-slow moves, only light-fast moves.
Alex tried to recreate everything he had learned from watching MMA fight videos.
He tried his best from punches to kicks, feints to locks, but nothing seemed to work. Alex couldn't get a single hit on Jason. He would swiftly move, taking advantage of the darkness. He kept countering each and every one of Alex's attacks while dealing devastating blows.
An average person couldn't have stood up after taking two of his hits. Every single one of them was a clean, exact hit despite Alex's speed and agility.
'What is that fighting style?'
'It is MMA, though different from what you would expect. This fighting style is exclusively made for WS agents. You have no chance of winning.'
The fight was astonishingly one-sided. After a complete beat down, Jason asked again.
'There is no benefit in continuing this any longer. Stand down.'
Alex was thankful his body hadn't broken down yet. He wondered what he could do. Jason was more of a superhuman than he was. A daring plan came to his mind.
'I still have a few tricks up my sleeve.'
He held his arms out and again did a backflip, this time jumping off the rooftop to do a free fall. The ground was 15 meters below. Alex managed to land on his feet but heard his bones cracking. He sustained a shatter fracture.
--I didn't think it would hurt this much.
Jason was surprised to see he was still standing. He couldn't afford to let his target get away. Without a second thought, he jumped off, pulling out a gun and fired a small anchor with a cable attached to it and began rappelling down.
It took about 10 sec for Alex's legs to heal, the same amount of time it took Jason to get down. Alex headed for the main road with Jason high on his heels.
Along with all these superhuman abilities, he had also acquired violently fast healing. He was sure he had broken his arm when he attempted to lift the 100-pound sandbag, but the throbbing pain healed after 20 or so seconds.
He had accidentality cut himself while making his lunch. After grabbing a paper towel in front of him, he couldn't find the cut. Alex refrained from testing this ability too much due to it being painful, but when push comes to shove, one must act.
Alex was running alongside cars and bikes, with Jason not losing sight of him. He ran into heavy traffic as people were busy getting home. He would jump, dodge, skid and slide, performing death-defying stunts to stay ahead of Jason.
Adrenaline was pumping in both of their bodies. Both were stunned to see the other keeping up without fear. Frankly, Alex enjoyed this rush. He made his way into another alley.
'Finally, lost h..... wait.'
Alex intuitively looked up, and Jason was there on top of a balcony.
'How do you keep doing that?'
The man was a magician, showing up out of nowhere.
'How can you run after falling from 15 meters?'
'Hey! I asked first.'
--I have this one last chance.
On the other side of the alley was a heavily crowded street. The reason Alex came here was because of that. If he could make it there, there was no way Jason could catch him there.
Jason realizing this and pounced on Alex from above. Alex, reacting to Jason's movements, sidestepped and grabbed Jason from the waist. He jumped while grabbing Jason and did a horizontal 360° using the momentum to launch Jason in the air.
Alex gunned through the alley.
'Enough of these games.'
Jason was in mid-air and finally decided to end it. He took out his gun and opened the slot on its side. He reached in his pocket and took out a large pellet to load his weapon.
He was falling upside down when he took aim and shot his goal. Alex had almost made it out when the bullet turned into a net that expertly covered him.
'What the?'
He was tangled in the net, which was being slowly reeled back.
Jason leisurely walked as the net brought his catch. Bending on his knees, he asked again with a smile.
'Give up?'
'Maybe?'
'Let us go. We much to discuss.'
Alex stopped struggling to signal Jason's victory. Jason told Alex he was part of an organization called WS and was tasked with investigating Jira.
'I'm sorry I acted so rudely and called you stuck-up, I just wanted to make sure you weren't some wanna-be detective.'
'It is alright. Not many would believe the things I have told you without hard evidence and proof.'
'Also, I have a new nickname for you.'
'What that might be?'
Jason sighed. He would rather be called by his given name but saw it as a sign of Alex's willingness to co-operate.
'Batman.'
He retorted.
'What!? I refuse.'
'What do you mean? It's perfect, Batman.'
'I said, I refuse.'
'O-okay, okay, I got it. Let's point that gun somewhere other than my face. You wouldn't want to accidentally kill the person you worked so hard to capture, would you?'
