Alex was immediately rushed into the medical center inside headquarters. Rei Rei took care of Alex himself, performing every necessary procedure himself with the assistance of a single nurse. After two hours, the storm had come to pass. Rei Rei was exhausted from working but felt relieved that Alex would live.
Alex was put in his own room and was on a ventilator. Jason rushed in along with Vanessa. Jason kept blaming himself for idiocy.
--How could I make such a stupid mistake?
The nurse who assisted the Professor was beside Alex, setting up his IV bag. Alex laid motionlessly on the bed with a mask on for oxygen.
'How is he?'
The nurse beheld a heart-broken face.
'The professor did her best, but your friend has fallen into a deep coma.'
Jason could find no one else but to blame himself.
'If only I was more careful.'
Jason had lived a life full of expectations and hardship. He wasn't granted the luxury of friends and hence had none. Alex was his first acquaintance that lasted more than a month.
Vanessa asked the nurse.
'What are the chances of him waking up?'
'It's hard to say. He has sustained severe injuries. It could be several months or even years before he could regain consciousness. We can only hope for the--'
'Woooaaahhh.'
The said victim of a deep coma took off his mask and yawned. Then he turned to his side before returning to the deadly coma. The nurse grew pale as if she had seen a ghost and grabbed Vanessa's arm to seek protection from the inhuman creature.
'T-Th-The pa-patient moved!! It MOVED!!'
The nurse couldn't suppress her screams.
'Would ya keep it down. I'm tryna sleep.'
Alex half-opened his eyes and spoke sloppily. Jason caught hold of Alex and regretted that he turned the current only to a measly 1 ampere.
'Woah!'
He shook him.
'How dare you make me worry about you?'
'What kind of accusation is that?'
'My, my, Jason. Please be more gentle. He is still a patient.'
Rei Rei came in. Seeing Alex woke up, she was glad. He actually knew Alex would wake up in an hour or so, despite going into a coma but forgot to tell the nurse.
Alex recovered and was discharged after an hour. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like Alex could generate electricity. He had partially lost his sense of touch, but Rei Rei said it will come back in a while.
Alex was a little weak but could walk on his own. The Professor took full responsibility for this situation and invited them for tea in the lab. He also gifted the Graphene swords as a token of apology.
As they walked, he and Vanessa kept on teasing the cold faced Jason at how much he cared despite saying he didn't.
As they got near the lab and were about to enter, Jason's body froze right where it was. His eyes caught hold of something which filled his body with fear and anxiety.
It was the back of a man. A back he had seen countless times. A strong back that others saw as a sign of protection. For Jason, that thought never occurred.
'F...ather?'
He said in an inaudible voice.
He brought up the courage to take a few more steps and raised his voice a little so that the owner of the back could hear it.
'A-Agent Charles?'
The voice reached the man whom he had intended, and the man took a breath of disappointment. Not everybody can reject something the WS headquarters had ordered.
However, since the Headquarters administration is also made up of humans, a mistake is possible. An error that can be corrected by someone who has shown capability despite belonging to the same species.
3 Agents have been given the right to veto. They are not ordinary agents. WS agents have ranks from A to D, with A being the highest. A special S rank was made just for them. To those who have transcended humanity but still kept their human form.
They are the best of the best, true geniuses, unmatched, unparalleled, unrivaled, the greatest soldiers. Jason's father stood on the top of the trio. A man with a succession score unheard of. He is Agent Charles Bourne, a.k.a, Humanity's strongest soldier.
'Why are you here?'
'Jason where are y-'
Alex came calling for Jason but was stopped by Vanessa. It was best not to interfere.
'I-I have come to see you.'
His father finally turned around. A man with a well-built figure, with his broad shoulders and fine muscles that could not be kept hidden by his dark blue two-piece suit.
With his hair still being black, he had brown eyes, which were passed onto Jason. His face looked as if a master mason had taken years making it. The masculinity of his face was ruined by his stern look.
'Agent Charles, I would urge you to please reconsider your decision on removing me from my current mission.'
Jason was a little hesitant, but his voice became steady as he went on.
'I take full responsibility for failing to complete the second objective of my mission, but I have compensated for it by having secured the superhuman. I have also uncovered the identity of the last survivor Doctor involved in the operation. It will only be a matter of time until he is caught.'
Jason held a sound argument, but his father wasn't interested in his achievement. All he saw was a failure.
'Is that all?'
His words were colder than the winter wind.
'A failure is a failure no matter the excuse. I thought I told you before not to throw mud on the Bourne legacy.'
He closed up the distance and Jason, slowly destroying him from the inside with each step. The atmosphere became heavier. The pressure created by humanity's strongest soldier was so intense that Jason could barely stand. The air was choking.
'I-I understand...'
Charles got bored and couldn't stand his son. He was about to leave and turned around. Jason's eyes were wet, but not a tear was allowed to leave. Still, hope whispered; try it one more time.
'But… Fath--'
Jason didn't have the time to say more than time. Before he knew, an immense force collided with his face. Charles furiously hit him with the back of his right hand. His fist conveying the message, "No mean no.
Jason couldn't withstand the force and lost his balance hitting the ground 4 meters away from where he stood.
'It seems you are having trouble following orders.'
Charles was not done. He cracked his knuckle as he approached Jason. Killing intent filled the air.
'Agent Charles! WS agents are forbidden to inflict harm on each other, whatever the reason.'
A firm, loud voice broke the blood lust atmosphere. Charles traced the sound to the person. It was David, his brother, who looked ready to interfere if he took one step further. Charles took the hint and went away.
'My decision will not change. WS has no need for inadequate people who fail on their 3rd mission. Go study at the university you're already enrolled in, maybe you will learn something useful there.'
David walked up to Jason and offered his hand.
'Are you alright?'
Jason wasn't hurt much physically and stood up on his own, but on the other hand, he was devastated.
It had now become official. Vanessa was assigned to the mission no.6611 and was tasked to gather intel on Jira and capture Dr. Watson.
Jason was directionless. He didn't know what to do but follow his father's order. To attend the university until he gets assigned to a new mission. The three of them departed for Japan on the same day.
