It did not take long for the rogue army to close in on them after they had forced the Beta out and spoke to Kyle. The howling is what alerted those gathered. While panic had been the first reaction for many, Ada and the others were ready and they got everyone who was not going to fight inside of the Alpha's house.
Barbed wire had been put up along the top of the walls to keep the wolves from just jumping over and the nearly six hundred wolves that were inside the compound were. token up into four groups to cover all four walls. They were not going to leave any of their sides undefended. Each team had at least ten fighters skilled in rogue combat and at least two who were good enough to be considered experts. The rest that were considered experts were guarding the Aplha's house, and all those inside.
Ada, Vincent, Jessie and Zak were in the group that was near the front gate. The four of them were the best at fighting and they were the four who had taken charge when it was revealed that the Aplha was missing. They knew what was coming and they were determined to see this through and put an end to it. The rogues were not going to get their way this time.
As the howling got closer, the feral snarls could be heard as the wolves rushed in. They came for the front gate first, which seemed like an obvious play, but Ada knew that they were coming from all sides. They were pushing the front gate first because it was the best way inside.
Five wolves attempted to jump the wall on either side of the tall iron hate and they got wrapped up in the barbed wire. Their loud shrill shrieks of pain ringing out across the otherwise silent landscape. More cries of pain from wolves rang out as similar scenes were happening all around the compound.
Rogues were only loyal to themselves, so as their comrades lay screaming and dying wrapped in the barbed wire, more rogues used their bodies to get over the metal wire and passed the walls. Once their paws hit the ground, they dove at the wolves closest to them.
Barks, growls and loud yelps rang out through the air. Blood stained the pristine white snow red and the chaos of battle erupted in full as more rogues jumped the walls and joined the fighting.
Ada dove away from a lunge as a smaller red wolf dove at her. She pivoted and darted back in with her own attack, sinking her teeth into the side of the wolf who yelped and growled, spinning around as they attempted to bite her face. Ada was faster and jumped back, avoiding an attack that could have blinded her.
The wolf tried to follow her, but was tackled to the ground by another wolf fighting with Ada. Those that had not attended her training sessions, or those who had only attended a few were catching on quickly, watching those who were more skilled and learning while in the midst of battle. Wolves still fell on both sides, the bodies left where they had fallen as the living fought on.
Vincent and Ada faced off against three large grey wolves. They took turns attacking and defending, one always making sure to defend the neck of their mate as all five rolled across the bloodied ground, teeth looking for a fatal bite.
The first of the grey wolves fell back, blinded with a broken jaw, Ada knew it would not survive an attack from any other wolf. The second was pinned by Vincent who was ruthlessly ripping at it's throat. Ada faced off against the third, who seemed too confident and came at Ada hard.
It dove for her neck, but Ada drove forward and instead the wolf slammed it's teeth into hard bone. The pain did not register to Ada as she whipped her head around and grabbed onto the side of the neck of the grey wolf. This caused the wolf to snarl and snap around toward her. They both snarled and growled as they snapped at and bit at one another. Ada bit the wolf in the face and neck, inflicting deep wounds that set the wolf staggering back.
War was messy, loud, and brutal. While the pack wolves were mostly untrained for the ruthless fighting of the rogues, they were able to take down more of them than had been expected. Of the almost three hundred rogue wolves that had shown up for the fight, most of them had died, were too wounded to fight, or were running. Almost three hundred of the pack wolves were dead or injured by the time the fighting was winding down.
The smell of death was heavy on the wind. Clean up was important, but Ada knew that this was the worst time for them. They were tired and injured, sad from losing g loved ones. They were most vulnerable now and while the rest of the wolves around her were letting their guards down, Ada did not.
"We should get the dead to the center of the compound and bury them in the snow for now. We can deal with what to do with them after this is over." She said to Vincent, who looked tired. He also looked confused.
"It is over. We won. Most of the rogues are dead. It would be suicide to attack us again." He said to her and Ada shook her head.
"That is not how they think. They still have your parents. According to them, they still have a chance to win. Once we kill all of the leaders, then we will have one." She said to him before kissing him gently and walking out of the house they were using for a clinic.
Many had died, but most had survived. The loses were tragic, but none of the packs had suffered too heavy a loss on their own. They could all still recover as long as they could end this for good. Ada knew they had to end it for good.
The snow was cold under her bare feet as she walked back toward the gate. Patches of snow were deep red with frozen blood. It looked every bit the battlefield that it was. She hated it. This place reminded her of her home, her original home. She could see the day her family was killed and see them dead in the snow around her.
She could hear the fighting, as the Alpha and the others in her pack tried to fight back against the rogues that had invaded their territory. She could smell the blood of her mother and feel her grip loosening on her as her life slipped away.
Tears streamed down Ada's face. She didn't realize that she had slipped into the memory and stood wrapped in just a towel in the middle of the entryway by the gate. Pack members milled about, cleaning up bodies or patrolling the area to ensure that any stragglers were taken down.
She was so lost in her memories and pain she didn't hear the shouts from those around her. Kyle had returned with his top fighters and leaped over the wall where the barbed wire was still mangled from the wolves that had gotten tangled in it.
Ada was so lost in the memory, that she was I ly brought back to the present reality when the teeth of a wolf sunk into her leg. She screamed in pain as she was ripped to the ground and dragged toward the gate. The wolves with Kyle split off. Two went to intercept the wolves ronnie g to help Ada, the others ran to the gate and threw it open. Ada fought to free herself, but she could not get Kyle to loosen his grip on her shin. Instead he bit down harder and co tinued to drag her.
She fought harder to get free as she was dragged further and further away from the gates. She screamed and kicked at Kyle's face, but it didn't seem to faze him. She spun around and tried to dig her hands into the snow to stop herself, but nothing slowed the pull.
Ada looked back toward the gate, seeing Jessie and Zak holding Vincent back. She knew it was better if he was still inside the gates and safe. He was the next Alpha. The pack needed him. More of the pack wolves poured into the area. The gates were closed and the rogue wolves still inside were killed. She knew they would redo the security so that more wolves could not get in. It was too late for her.
