Rogue-like Beginnings (Part 2)

The old woman's basement was like a sauna, the air inside wafting out as we opened up the door. It was like opening an oven after preheating it.

"This is where they've been multiplying, sonny." the old woman said, looking somber.

"Alright then, I'll take care of them for you, so don't worry." I said, calmly, as I descended the staircase that led into the basement.

The basement had a red, glowing tinge emanating from it. The sound of reptilian menaces echoed throughout the room, as I heard the hissing of hot metal and boiling water. I quietly entered the room, and prepared myself for what would certainly be an intense battle.

As I entered the main room of the basement, 5 Flame Salamanders stood in front of me, their beady black eyes staring deep into my soul. Their fiery scales created water vapor from the heat they gave off, I knew that this was going to be a somewhat dangerous fight.

Luckily for me, I had resistance to fire type damage and abilities, so I wasn't so worried about taking the extra damage that fire would usually inflict. I withdrew my dual chain daggers, and ran into the main basement room, the battle had begun!

The Flame Salamanders had spotted me, and began spitting fireballs towards my direction. I swiftly side-rolled, and dodged the fireballs, however, with so many projectiles flying at me, I got hit by two of the fireballs. They hurt like hell! Even with the damage reduction, they stung like crazy! It practically felt as though I was actually burnt IRL. Despite that, I got back onto my feet, and threw one of my daggers at the salamander, piercing it's back and dragging it back towards me, like Arachnid in Immortal Fightin'. I grabbed the hot Flame Salamander and tore it in two, as the body fizzled away into dust, the Salamander dropped some Tyles and 2 flaming scales.

I picked up the items, and continued the fight with the other four Flame Salamanders. I wanted to end this quickly, so I threw out both sides of my chain daggers, and sliced through two of them. The last two I kicked into the wall with a Lucky Kick, as their monster dust splashed onto the heated walls.

After all was said and done, I picked up the Tyles and materials dropped by the Flame Salamanders, and headed out of the now cooling basement. I walked back up to the main floor, and saw the old woman sitting down on the couch sipping tea.

"Excuse me, Ma'am, but I've finished up the Flame Salamander extermination, they should be all good now." I stated, sitting down in a chair opposite the old woman.

"Oh, thank you so much dear, I do hope I wasn't too much trouble asking you to come down here." The old woman responded.

"No no, it was no trouble at all! I was just doing my job. Would you mind if I join you for some more tea?" I asked politely.

"I don't mind at all, dear," the old woman said, as she poured me a cup of tea. "You don't mind staying for a while longer, do you dear? I hardly ever get visitors."

"I'm more than happy to stay here for a while longer, if that's what you'd like." I said softly. I took a sip of my tea, and felt calm. It was relaxing, not fighting or questing, and just sitting down and sipping tea. The SkyVisor truly was amazing, giving me the ability to taste the tea in my mouth.

"It's getting a little late dear, I'm going to prepare lunch, would you like to be it?" the old woman cooed.

"Oh, I'd lo- excuse me, could you repeat that again?" I said shakily

"I said… I'd like you to be my lunch." the old woman repeated. She slowly stood up, as she began to grow in size. Her skin became red and scaly, and a tail grew from her frail back. Her hands turned into flaming talons, and her face became snouted and sharp.

I knew then and there, I was in for much more than just a basic kill quest.
