Renovating

After a good night's sleep, she was excited to get up and start her day. First order of business: get a phone. So she hopped on the bus that had a stop right outside her door and drove to an electronic store. " Hi. I want to buy a phone could you please help me and recommend one or two phones." Vali greeted. "Do you have a preference?" the store clerk asked. In the end, Val chose a simple prepaid mobile. Outside the shop, she called the realtor and made an appointment to meet in one hour in front of the building.

One hour later Vali was the proud owner of a two-story building in midtown Manhatten. In her old world, she was never allowed to own a property, so she was super excited to start renovating her space.

Valerie started the renovation with banishing all the dust, rubbles and everything else that was lying around. The biggest room in the house was also the room that Vali designated to be the bistro. The front door would lead directly to the big storeroom. There were also two store windows next to the door. The storefront was facing a buzzing street and a bus stop was also there. So the location couldn't be better to open business. Vali vanished the walls in the back of the room and made new ones a little bit further back. One of the two rooms in the back was going to be a toilet and the other room would be the kitchen with the staircase going up to her flat.

She conjured up a beautiful dark hardwood floor and colored the walls a nice warm beige. The smaller of the two rooms in the back was going to be the toilet and the bigger one of those two the kitchen.

She wanted to have an open kitchen so that her guests could observe her and vice versa. So she vanished the upper half of the wall facing the bistro and replaced it with glass. A long bar was placed before the glass wall so that people could not only watch her cooking but also watch when she is brewing their coffee. Then she conjured beige-colored tables, chairs and she placed benches at the corner of the front window. The two small front windows were changed to one big window to let as much sunlight in as possible.

She cast a repairing spell for the plumbing, electrical wiring, and the ceiling and conjured up warm and bright lamps that looked like stars. The kitchen facility she made state of the art, modern and kept in chrome like one of the kitchen she saw on the internet. The toilet area was going to be divided into three parts. After coming in you would be standing in the entrance area where the washbasin was located, the other two doors would lead to the two toilets: one for women and one for men.

Upstairs Valerie made the living room light grey and white-colored with red accents here and there. Vali conjured up a big fireplace at one of the walls, the newest television above it and a big, red, soft and cushy couch in front of it.

The bedroom didn't get much consideration because she didn't plan on ever sleeping in there. She made the walls white, the floor grey and put a normal, white double bed in the center. In her opinion, the most important room was the bathroom. She decorated it with white and black tiles, put a gigantic freestanding bathtub in one of the corners and at the opposite end of the room she conjured up a rain shower. A toilet and a really big sink were placed on the other wall.

The walk-in wardrobe was fitted with white, beautifully decorated cabinets. In the back of one of those cabinets, she made a doorframe and bespelled it with an extension charm so that behind this door several more rooms came into existence. The beauty of extension spells was that you couldn't see them from the outside, so nobody would know about her secret base behind her wardrobe.

One room was designated to be a laboratory where she could brew her potions, test her new spells or produce new armor. Then there was a room that functioned as a greenhouse and animal shelter. Valerie collected countless magical plants over the course of her life. Every time she came across a magical animal during one of her mission she would spell them into stasis and take them with her. Her original plan was to buy a house in the countryside after the war and there she would keep those animals in her garden.

Over the years she collected and bought thousands of books, which she stored in her ring. Reading and collecting books was the only pleasure she allowed herself to have. Valerie conjured up mahogany bookshelves and filled them with her books, and to complete her cozy library she made two yellow, really soft and inviting looking armchairs with floor lamps beside them.

The last room would be her real bedroom. After years of battles and torture, she wouldn't feel at ease if her sleeping place was easily accessible.

For her sleeping quarters, she liked the colors light blue, beige and white.

Last but not least Valerie warded her bedroom with charms to only let people inside that she approved off. Then she put an illusion on the doorway, to her extended space, so that it looked like the backside of her cabinet. She enchanted her whole apartment with a spell to prevent someone with bad intentions to get in.

Downstairs she set enchantments so that people, who truly needed a place where they could relax, be themselves and let the stress of their normal lives behind them, would find her place. Vali wanted to make a bistro where people would visit to recharge and would feel better after they left. The plan was to serve the best coffee in town and bake muffins and cakes that would compliment the coffee. There would be no fixed menu only one lunch meal, that would change weekly, so she had time to perfect the next dish she was going to serve the following week.

Valerie knew she had to brush up on her knowledge of earth cooking and coffee making so she signed up on a few cooking courses. This would keep her busy in the mornings for the next few weeks. In the afternoon she would explore her new world. She could teleport to every part of the earth if she saw a picture, with the help of google maps she could visit everywhere. And she used this time to get some answers to her questions: What weapons exist in this world? What exactly are satellites and can they track her with them? How does her magic hold up against technologies? What kind of mutants are there? How far along are they in health care? Are there epidemics?
