It didn't take us long to get back to the beach, especially after I began to swim back on my own. Though when we got to the beach, I saw that Steve was lying there, not moving.
Memories and instincts I hadn't had before kicked in, and I slammed my foot down on his chest, though I controlled the strength so he didn't explode into a thousand little gory pieces. It was weird knowing that I had the strength to do that now.
Terrifying, as well.
Luckily I had the memories to know how to control it. Though such a perfect merger...I'm fairly sure it has effected my personality somewhat.
Oblivious to my internal questioning, Steve began to cough up water, the salty liquid coming out in a stream that made me feel sorry for the poor guy; he was only human. I was under the water for just as long as him yet I didn't even feel slightly pressured.
He turned himself over and began to vigorously cough as he tried to catch his breath, "Goddammit Noah...Couldn't you have done it a normal way?!" he gave a hoarse shout before coughing some more while I just shrugged before motioning to the gorgeous woman right next to us. That shut him up - even his coughing.
"Wow," he said, still lacking a bit of breath, his eyes squinting from the sun shining down below her.
Meanwhile, I ignored lover boy and looked to the horizon. If my memories about the movie were right, the Germans would be here soon. Clenching my fist, I found my first personality quirk; I wanted to fight. I wanted to fight the Germans who were to come and I wanted to enjoy the battle. I took that as both my Beowulf and Cu Chulainn memories effecting me. They were battle maniacs after all.
"Your...Your men? Real men?" I heard Diana, the woman who'd saved us and soon to be known as Wonder Woman, speak while looking between us, her eyes wide and bewildered but more than anything, filled with curiosity. I rolled my eyes before wiping my blond hair out of the way.
From my body figure, height, and hair...I'd say I look most like Beowulf. Walking over to the water, I saw my reflection and gave a smile: I looked like Beowulf...just a hell of a lot more handsome. Fewer scars as well. I had nicks on my jaw and one or two on my cheeks but nothing like the massive scars on Beowulf. Even the scars I currently had were barely noticeable.
That's good, I guess? I'd rather look like Cu Chulainn but Beowulf is better than an old man like Vlad III or Berserker Lancelot.
"Yeah," Steve got out, breathlessly still, "I mean," he backtracked with a confused expression, "Do I not look like one or something?" he looked from Diana to me but I just ignored his look - I'd rather let him embarrass himself, honestly.
Little bastard's done it many times to me if my memories are correct.
"Where are we?" I asked, my voice deep and gruff, but otherwise quite a nice-sounding voice.
Diana seemed taken aback by the commanding tone to my voice, and even more taken aback when she answered almost instantly, like a little girl in front of an adult. Which was odd seeing as even with my combined experiences I was still much younger than her.
"Themyscira," she said before looking perturbed. Ignoring her reaction I instantly fired another question her way, much to Steve's confusion who looked at me as if to say 'How are you so calm right now?'.
"Like the place where the Amazons live?" I asked, Diana's eye lighting up as she rapidly nodded. Seeing her reaction I put on a facade as I carried on, "Shit."
Before she could question why I said that, or even who we were, we heard the groaning of metal and their attentions to turned to where I was already looking - at a German destroyer ship appearing out of no where with multiple smaller, wooden boats surrounding it with German soldiers rowing them towards us.
"Well, I guess they followed us, huh, Noah?" Steve said, but I didn't answer him. I just gave a helpless smile as I knew what was about to happen.
A major part of me was excited to fight dozens of people at the same time*, while another part began to scheme on how to use this opportunity to move the Amazon's opinions of me and Steve in our favor. Another part began to get extraordinarily mad for some odd reason but I easily kept it under control, my combined willpower being completely inhuman.
(*A/N - The reasons it's 'a major part' instead of 'a part' of him is because two parts of him - Cu Chulainn and Beowulf - are complete battle maniacs.)
"DIANA!" A colossal shout echoed across the beach as I turned my glance up the white cliffs and saw a few women sitting on horses, "Step away from her...now! she roared. Even from this distance, I could clearly see her face morphed in rage as her eyes focused in on me and Steve, as if our very existence made hatred bubble inside of her. Though knowing her history, I couldn't exactly blame her.
Her attention was quickly taken away from us, however, as he gaze turned from anger to worry as she looked at the quickly approaching Germans, "Ready your bows!" causing Steve to look as if he'd just heard something absurd.
"They have guns, right?" he looked to Diana before looking at me - I don't know why he did. How am I supposed to know what they have?
...I mean, I do know what they have but that's only because I've seen this movie before!
Before I could reprimand the idiot, both sides began to fire at each other and I felt a bullet actually hit my back. Though I flinched, nothing happened. I knew I had the powers of a servant...but wasn't the reason they were immune to modern weaponry due to Magus-stuff? Or because they were made of pure energy?
...Is my body truly that hard now? Not even feeling the bullet from a rifle when it slams into my back?
Well isn't that just...brilliant.
Steve began to run to a nearby rock and I followed him over as he dragged Diana who just seemed...curious about the whole ordeal.
None of the Amazons were hit by the bullet storm but over half the Germans were put down by the hail of fire arrows the Amazons had released. Not all of them died but they were definitely out for the count and wouldn't be adding anything to the upcoming fight.
The Amazons instantly followed up by having their warriors jump down from the cliffs. They jumped, shot their arrows into the cliff face. Their arrows were tied to a piece of rope which was then tied around their waists - it was a quick way to get down the cliff. Though a way that would no doubt either kill or cripple a normal human.
One of the Amazons that came down near us was in the middle of firing an arrow when a bullet was shot toward her. It traveled across the distance in no time but...it was so slow to me. I could easily track it, even if I was half-assing the tracking of the bullet. My reflexes seemed to be quicker than Diana's as she could only watch the bullet pass by us. I knew I could stop it...but I didn't. Why? Because Diana needs to know consequence.
I'd love to protect the innocent and naive Diana but she needed to grow up and become Wonder Woman. The world would come to need her in the future.
The life of this Amazon was a needed stepping stone to save hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of lives. The entire world could be saved by her, depending on how this world develops.
...That was definitely my Vlad III part of me thinking. Even if that part of me was right, it left a bad taste in my mouth to leave a person to die. So that would be another new personality quirk I'd found: Ruthlessness. Calculated ruthlessness. Necessary ruthlessness.
The bullet continued to travel and slammed into the Amazon, instantly making her body go limp.
Diana's face went pale at the sight, her body freezing for a second or two before her vision turned to the other Amazons who'd safely got to the ground. Her face was filled with even more grief when she saw that they'd been gunned down almost instantly. I felt for her...with all my memories, how could I not know what it's like to lose a comrade? To stand there as a witness as they die? But it a necessity to forge yourself in fire, so you can become stronger.
That's what all parts of me could agree on, no matter their origin.
As the vanguard of the Amazons dropped, the cavalry literally arrived as they charged the German landing party. Armed with their bow and arrows they began to fire on the Germans...and began to actually decimate them. Even with the weapons advantage, the Germans just couldn't react to the rapid attack of the Amazons. The Amazons, and the horses they were riding, were just unnaturally quick. At least by human standards.
By the time the Germans had reacted, the cavalry were in front of them and were stabbing them with spears. Smiling widely, and savagely, I took this moment to pounce.
Steve would find out about the powers anyway, so there was no point in hiding them, and showing the Amazons? That served the purpose of showing that I wasn't someone they could fuck with and get away with it.
I respect them but that doesn't mean I need to put up with being treated like a prisoner.
I broke into a sprint, really letting my muscles get warmed up. I heard Steve shouting my name but I ignored it and in less than a second I'd arrived in front of the first German. I grabbed his gun, easily pulling it from his grasp before swinging the barrel round at his face. Unluckily for him, he'd attached a bayonet to the end of his gun, so his throat was promptly slit.
I...smiled at the feeling of cutting the man's head off. If I weren't so perfectly merged with the experiences of the four heroic spirits, I would've no doubt been very troubled with what I'd just done. But as I am right now?
I barely even hesitated before swinging the gun around like a spear and impaling the heart of the next German.
I walked through the crowd of German soldiers, slaying them with simple, yet ruthless moves. Sometimes I'd impale them, sometimes I'd slash them, sometimes I'd just punch or kick them so hard they died. I wasn't even pushed near my limits but I was still enjoying the fight. The feeling of power was intoxicating and the feeling of triumphing over and dominating another person...was even more so than the former.
Even if my life wasn't on the line, this was enjoyable to me now. Especially when I finally got my muscles warmed up a little.
I met a few Amazons as I waded my way through the German crowd - I beat them but left them alive. Though that didn't mean I didn't loot one of them for their weapon, and boy, was it a beauty. It was about 9 feet long and made of solid wood and topped with a impossibly sharp spear tip.
Though not as sharp as Gae Bolg...it was definitely enough to work with.
I let the memories and experiences flow through my muscles. Two in particular; Cu Chulainn and Vlad III. Both completely different spear users. One of them acts like a wild beast, using his agility to completely overwhelm his opponent with quick, vicious, and powerful blows. While the other maneuvers his opponent how he wants, pushing them down a road of no return before finally impaling them to death.
I let these experiences flow through me as I spun through the crowd. One minute I was an insatiable beast, using his spear to claw everything's guts out, the next minute I was a calculating king who had everything dancing on the palm of his hand.
And if you had a particularly keen eye? You'd see those styles of combat slowly merging, becoming something more utterly terrifying than either of them.
All the while I was either dodging bullets, cutting them in half or blocking them with the spear. I didn't need to but I made a fun game out of dodging the bullets - it kept the fighting fresh and kept me alert.
Looking to the left, I saw Antiope, Diana's Aunt, jumping in front of a bullet for Diana.
This.
This is how I'd gain their gratitude. I pressed my feet into the sandy beach before blasting toward Antiope. The ground behind me blasting away and leaving a crater as I crossed dozens of meters so quickly it was like I teleported. I grabbed Antiope and tackled her to the ground but not before grabbing the bullet with hand and throwing it back at the German who shot it, killing him.
Looking down at Antiope I realized she was...much younger than she was in the movie, and much more beautiful.
The actress who played her in Wonder Woman was already a beautiful woman - both when she was younger and when she was older. But right now? She was very much so beyond that. She was stunning. Probably only Diana had her beat and that was only by the smallest margin.
Smiling, I raised an eyebrow at the woman I was holding, "So, wanna get a drink later?"
That's when she went in for the headbutt.
What a woman.
