Sinking Feelings

Claire, Sherry, and Katherine all stand and stare at the cloud of dust as it starts to dissipate. With a heavy stomp, a black boot comes stepping out of the cloud, followed by the rest of the Tyrant.

"Run!" Claire exclaims. All three of them turn to the right where a doorway leads down a metal corridor. It spans several meters in length, their footsteps banging against all the walls. Nearing the other end, they hear the wire fence get knocked down. The corridor makes a sharp right down some stairs. As they hurry down the stairs, Claire trips, falling to the base of the stairs face first.

"Claire!" Sherry exclaims as she runs over to her. Katherine spots an empty elevator shaft. She glances back at Sherry and Claire.

"I'll call the elevator up!" Katherine states before running over to the shaft and pressing the button over and over, the light faintly lighting up. As the machine weakly comes to life, Sherry helps Claire up. Finally stumbling back up onto her feet, her and SHerry hurry to the elevator, Katherine still pressing the button in a panic.

"Come on, come on!" Katherine cries out. They can hear the Tyrant's footsteps closing in on them. They can just barely see the top of the elevator in the shaft as it slowly rises up. No more than a few seconds. They turn towards the stairs and see the Tyrant start to make its way down them. With a clank, the elevator reaches the top, the door gate opening up. The three of them dart inside, Katherine mashing the down button.

As the gate starts to close, the Tyrant suddenly thrusts its hands in between them, preventing the door from closing. It starts to tear it open, lowering its head to bring it to their level. It stares at them with dead eyes that don't convey any emotion or even a sense of will. The Tyrant suddenly twitches as large claws suddenly peirce its body and coat, blood gushing out onto the elevator floor. The Tyrant is suddenly lifted into the air, revealing the claw to be attached to the mutated man from before.

"D-Daddy..?" Sherry mutters as she gets a good look at the human head. The second head to the right starts to grow larger, yellow eyes opening up as it lifts the Tyrant higher into the air. With a sudden slash, its claws tear through the Tyrant's torso, ripping it in two pieces. The elevator doors try to close once more, unable to fully close, but the elevator still starts its decent. The sudden clank of the machinery catches the creature's attention. It lets out an inhuman roar before it starts charging at the elevator.

"Dad no!" Sherry screams before the thing charges into it, making the elevator bend backwards slightly. The wheels lose their grip, and they all start falling with a loud screech, the creature holding onto the front of the elevator. They all scream as they fall into the abyss.

"Ben, run!" Katherine calls out, "Hurry!"

"Hey, moron, hurry!" Ada calls out as Ben stands there.

"I swear I'll find you, I promise!" Ben calls out before he turns and runs into the gunshop, Ada closing the door shut. Leon and Ben stand still for a second, catching their breath.

"This isn't the time for a break," Ada says, "We need to keep moving, come on,"

Ben and Leon follow Ada through the empty and ransacked gun store to a backdoor leading to a small outdoor area. There's two paths, a door straight ahead a few feet away leading into another building, and a doorway through a wire fence to their right.

"Which way?" Leon asks.

"This way," Ada states, heading to the right.

"Wait," Leon states, "Maybe there's some supplies in here," Leon starts walking to the other door.

"Don't bother," Ada replies, "The owner of the gun store took his infected daughter back there, and I heard two shots," Leon stands there, baffled and taken back by how easily she said that, as if it was just some normal thing, "Ben, you have what I need?" She brushes it off.

"Uh...Not exactly," Ben replies as he reaches into a back pocket and pulls out a voice recorder, "This was all I could get, well, recorded at least," He hands it to Ada, "I uh, wasn't able to find out where they kept G, but I did see some other stuff,"

"G, what's that?" Leon asks, walking over to them.

"Beats me," Ben shrugs, "Hey, didn't you say we needed to keep moving?" He asks Ada as she steps away from, listening to the recording.

"Useless…' Ada mutters as she pauses the recording. She tosses the recorder back towards Ben, who barely manages to catch it, "Follow me,"

She walks on through the wire fence doorway, Leon and Ben glancing at each other before following.

"Hey, you never answered my question," Leons says. Walking down an alley, the concrete soon comes to an end, and they find themselves on nothing but woden boards supported by scaffolding.

"It's classified information," Ada replies as she jumps down to a lower part of the scaffolding. Leon promptly follows, but Ben hesitates.

"Come on," Leon says, gesturing for him to come down.

"This doesn't look too stable..."

"This is the only way we can go, come on, before those things catch up," Ben walks to the edge, kneels down, and jumps down. He loses his balance a bit as he lands, Leon catching him before he falls.

"T-Thanks," Ben states as he regains balance. They follow Ada along the scaffolding, which turns right into the massive hole in the city, then makes a left. They have to jump down once more and then finally reach stable concrete ground when they find themselves at the entrance to the city sewers, a massive hole made of concrete, the ground full of dirt and sludge.

"Bingo," Ada states, "Let's go," Ada starts to walk into the tunnel, but Leon doesn't move.

"I'm not going in until I know what I'm dealing with," He crosses his arms, "I've already almost died enough times back at the police station. Where are you going?" Ada hesitates, her shades covering her annoyed look, but then talks.

"This leads to Umbrella's underground facility," She says, "Umbrella is the cause of all of this, thanks to a little thing called G,"

"What is that?"

"A virus they've been working on. That's all I know. That enough?"

"...Tell me everything else you know on the way," Leon states. Him and Ben start walking into the tunnel, Ada walking by Leon's side.

"So, what does all of this have to do with you, why are you here?" Leon asks as they make their way through the sewers, the moonlight from outside quickly fading, nothing but the dim glow from ceiling lights allowing them to see.

"I'm here to secure the virus, it's crucial evidence that can help bring down Umbrella to prevent anything like this from ever happening again,"

"If the government has known about this the whole time, why didn't they do anything to stop this?" Leon asks, "Thousands of people have died because of this, why would they just allow something like this to happen?" He starts to get a bit heated.

"It's not that easy Leon," Ada counters, "You think we haven't tried to get stuff on them before? They know how to cover their tracks and bend the law to their will, especially here. This outbreak is the only chance we're probably ever going to get to be able to investigate their labs. This is very serious stuff Leon, these people don't just make these things for the fun of it, they sell them as weapons for money, and a lot of it,"

"Umbrella has had control of this city's government for as long as I can remember," Ben adds, "I mean, look at me. I barely got anything from one of the head researchers, Annette, and I got my ass thrown in jail to rot," As they continue walking through the endless tunnels, everything suddenly starts to shake.
