World Through Blank Eyes

Worlds, who knows what they are? Like most people back then when I didn't know the truth. I thought only one world existed – the world we see when our eyes are opened. Though that didn't last long. One day in June 2007, I saw a shadow. Unlike most shadows, that one had nothing to replicate. Just a shadow with no owner from nowhere.


Days… months passed by, and this shadow kept on showing up every time I closed my eyes. What did it want? Who and what was it? None of these were concerns to me at first. 


But eventually, my curiosity grew as that shadow started shaping up. To what? What could that bundle of darkness be? A cat. it was a cat. I have always despised cats. Something creepy gets pictured in my mind every time I see a cat.


I could grasp a picture of it whenever I blinked. It was everywhere. It never left. I could never unsee it. I was scared, and that was not me. So, I had a moment to myself, asked it to relax, and then closed my eyes shut.


"Who are you cat?" I asked. "I?" it quickly replied.


"Oh, I can't believe I got sent to sign a contract with a five years old" the cat murmured to itself. "Well you see, kid…, I'm your KEY."


"KEY!? and what shall that be?" I said sarcastically.


"I know this sounds funny even to a childlike yourself, but this is the truth. So will you listen carefully?"


"Not any little thing like yourself gets this chance, to travel to my world; the Golden World. Every few years, approximately five to 10  people get chosen for a place; a rate, in my world. And the 'choosing' could be even before birth. it's a fate written for every one of you people?"


"You people! What about us? So what about your world? What am I supposed to do now? Cry to join your graceful land?"


"What a child?" the cat said in a low voice. "Are you obliged to join? Yes, you have to. Even if yo…"


"But. But what if I die?! What if they find me? What if they sentence me to death?!"


"So… they must be already here! And on work ha~?! Hey child, why don't you try touching me?"


"Sure… [ I don't really want to] but where exactly."


I moved what supposedly was my hand in the dark and touched the cat's head.


A digital screen flashed through my eyes.
