"What! Perished? How? I...mean he's a god, right. He's immortal." I said. Although I never saw my dad, but I always imagined him and now that I know who he is, these people are saying that he's dead. No. No, no, no. This can't be. There's some misunderstanding.
"I told you kid, being a god has it's own restrictions. We still don't know how Ares was able to do it but we know this that a god, too, can die." Apollo said, his voice ringed with so but also with truth.
"Now, since Zeus is no more, the gods stand divided and this is the perfect time for Ares to make himself the next king." the goddess said. "He and Hera are trying their hardest to remove everyone, every son of Zeus, from their way and so far they are successful in doing so."
"And now, it's only you who's left. You're a half-blood that's why the restrictions that the gods have, you don't. You possess the body of a human and powers of a god. That makes you both powerful and vulnerable at the same time." Apollo said.
"What do you mean by 'vulnerable'? " I asked.
"Well, you can die easily and there are numerous other problems as well." he said, his tone back to his pig self.
"You are here, so that I can teach you. You'll need all the help you can get." Hecate said.
"I have one more question, What's Chaos Vessel? Apollo, the one that you mentioned." I asked and the atmosphere of the room suddenly darkened and intensified. I got the feeling like I asked the wrong question.
"Adrian, what do you know about Chaos?" Hecate asked. And I tried to recall about this Chaos. Nothing. Since my childhood, I have been studying Greek mythology, Just because my mom wanted me to study it, but I was not able to recall anything about Chaos.
"No. I don't know anything about it." I admitted.
"It's not your fault, Chaos had been the most mysterious puzzle the Greeks had ever know. Only we gods, know about her." Apollo said.
"Before the existence of the universe...before the existence of anything, there was just an endless void of emptiness and nothing else. It was Chaos. The first ever primordial being and... and the strongest of all." The goddess said. Even while she was just mentioning Chaos, I could feel the fear in her voice. Anything capable of terrorising the gods...I don't even want to think about her.
"But what does it has do with the Vessel?" I asked.
"It was Chaos, from which the cosmos came into being. Then Gaia, the Earth, Tartarus, the bottomless pit of the underworld and Eros the god of love, emerged from Chaos. This is how the universe came into being." Hecate said.
"When the order of the universe was established, Chaos went into deep slumber. But before that she trapped all her powers into a unique Vessel and hid it somewhere in the unreachable depths of Tartarus." Apollo said.
"Legends say that, the vessel can demolish everything....even the universe. We believe that with the help of the Chaos Vessel, Ares was able to kill... Zeus." Hecate said.
"So what do we do now? If Ares has something that powerful, we don't stand a chance against him." I said. I didn't know why but I was feeling angry. I was angry at Zeus for never bothering to tell me the truth. I was angry at Ares for all this mess. I was angry at Chaos for trapping her destructive powers in a vessel, so that any mad man can easily bring about the end of the universe. But the truth is something else. I was angry at myself for being so much useless. It was because of my presence that Hera plotted with Ares too kill my father. I was cause of his death. It was my mistake that Area was now just a step far from becoming king of the gods. I... I was a mistake. I shouldn't have been born. This all was my mistake and I had to make it right.
"You have a plan, right. That's why you wanted me here." I asked and the corner of Hecate's lips curved into a mischievous smile.
"Thought you'd never ask." she said. As soon as I heard those words, I knew what I had to do. I will not be the reason for anyone's despair. I will make everything right. I will prove that... I AM NOT A MISTAKE.
"What I will have to do?" I said, my eyes filled with determination. I won't give up. Not now, not ever.
"There's only one thing, capable enough of challenging the power of the Chaos Vessel, The Sword of Fire." Hecate said.
"It is a weapon forged by the Cyclops who forged the weapons of the Big Three, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. That sword is the most powerful weapon ever made. It was formed with the life essence of Gaia*, Tartarus* and Ouranos*. That's why it is capable of overcoming the power of the Chaos Vessel." Apollo said.
"But... there's one problem. No one has ever seen that sweet much less know it's location." Hecate added.
"What? if we don't know where to find it, how can we get it?" I asked immediately.
"There's only one way to find out: asking the Oracle of Delphi." Hecate said, looking at Apollo.
"Whoa, whoa don't give me that look okay. It's not my mistake." Apollo said.
"Oh, of course it is." Hecate said as she rolled her eyes.
"Wait, what are you talking about?" I curiously asked.
"That's enough for today. I and Apollo have something important to discuss." Hecate said and then she looked at the girl in the corner of the room. "Isabella take Adrian with you and help him with the basics here, will you?"
One look at the goddess' face and you know the talk is over and there's no point arguing.
I looked at the girl in the corner who was standing there like a statue all this time. She nodded at Hecate and then looked at me before leaving the room. I looked at Hecate and Apollo, then left the room.
I found the girl named Isabella outside, her hair blowing in the wind, making her look a lonely goddess.
She saw me but her stone like expression didn't change. She came towards me, her gaze didn't waver even for a second.
"Come I'll show you the way around here." she said with the same expressionless face. I followed her.
She showed me the training area. "Here we practice warship and fighting." she said.
"Why warship?" I asked and then she stopped. She turned to look at me and said. "Because life for children like us is not easy. At every step we can confront danger. This valley is the only safe place for our kind." she said and I saw pain in her eyes. I was wondering what deep secrets she was hiding behind those beautiful eyes. Just one look at her eyes and I knew her past wasn't good.
"What had happened?" I asked and she stared at me. After an immeasurable amount of time she said "it's not your concern." and she moved on.
After that we walked in silence. I still wasn't satisfied with her answer and wanted to ask more. After a deep silence I tried to start a conversation.
"So, which god are you related to?" I finally asked.
"Aphrodite*. She... she's my great grandma." She said. There was a bit hesitation in her voice.
"You don't like her." I said. She looked at me and her eyes told me I spoke the truth. She opened her mouth to say something but stopped herself. She averted her eyes and looked at some kids playing with swords.
"Yes. You're right I don't like her." That was all she said. I got the feeling that I won't be able to get the answer I wanted so I decided to give up. If she didn't want to talk about it then I shouldn't force her. So I decided to change the topic. But before I could say anything she spoke first.
"Look there. That's your cabin. Your things are already there." and she started walking towards it. I followed her.
The room with very big and wasn't decorated much. Leaving some space was another room, about the same size but way more clean and beautiful. It was decorated with flowers and colours. There was climber plant at the entrance gate which bore very pretty red flowers. It looked like an entrance to heaven.
"That's the girls' cabin." Isabella said.
"Why is it more beautiful than this one?" I said pointing to the dusty room in front of me.
"Because here, whoever lives in the cabins, cleans it. It's not my fault that the guys in this room doesn't clean their cabin." she said.
"Well then, I guess I'll have to clean this whole cabin all by myself." I said and I opened the entrance door.
"Wait." Isabella said. I turned around and looked at her. She seemed hesitant to speak.
"You're... you're quite bold. Talking so openly even in the presence of two gods. Well, don't get me wrong but it's something I don't get to see often." and she left. Her words kept ringing in my mind. 'You're quite bold.'
