Lin Chao did not freak out. He would be a little daunted if the Golden Hound were at its peak. However, it was already badly wounded. Its reaction and strength would unavoidably be affected in addition to the large wound that also added to its weakness. Lin Chao would be able to keep the dog away as long as he continued targeting its injury.
Of course, it was inevitable that he would be hurt as well since the Golden Hound's physique was five times more enhanced than a human's!
Prior to this, Lin Chao would stay away from any possibility of getting injured and avoided risky actions as an infection was almost guaranteed once he was wounded.
However, he now had the multi-evolution nucleus. Even if he were to be infected, he could transform into an Evolved using the nucleus before he turned into a zombie. His body would produce a new antibody when he became an Evolved, giving him immunity toward all virus strains. Unless his brain was severely infected, no other wounds would be able to turn him into a zombie.
Lin Chao no longer feared wounds now, daring to give it a try even if he were to meet a special zombie!
The Golden Hound stared at the corpse of the Peril Strain beside Lin Chao. Its gaze was bellicose and thirsting. With a low growl, it sprinted over.
Lin Chao held his steel bar and countered the rapidity with stillness. The moment the Golden Hound sprang and showed its belly, he immediately struck it with the bar!
The steel bar was about to greet its target when the Golden Hound spun in the air, forcing a change of direction, and plummeted towards Lin Chao's shoulder. If Lin Chao insisted to slam the bar at its stomach, he would be clawed!
An eye for an eye.
Lin Chao was quite surprised. He did not expect the dog to learn so fast from its battle with the Peril Strain just now; it no longer attacked foolishly with all of its might but retained some force to change its position.
It was just that…
Wanna play tricks with me?
Just as the claw was going to dig into Lin Chao's shoulder, Lin Chao tilted his body; the steel bar in his hands was already flipped up toward the raked wounds on the Golden Hound's stomach as he simultaneously avoided its paw. The movement was fluid, like Lin Chao had planned it in the beginning.
Bam!
The steel bar was slammed onto the wound.
Yowl!
The Golden Hound retreated immediately upon landing and crying in pain. The slashes on its waist had yet to heal, and the contact of the steel bar made it spurt blood. The dog was now barely able to stand properly from the pain.
Although Lin Chao evaded the attack in time, his lack of speed caused his shoulder to get scraped. It was a light graze but the mutt's paw had still torn his clothes and left a few deep incisions.
If it had hit where it was intended to hit, Lin Chao's whole arm would most probably be ripped out!
Lin Chao was expecting injury to this extent so he was not in distress. Gripping the steel bar tightly, he took step after step, inching himself closer to the Golden Hound.
It seemed like the Golden Hound was intimidated by Lin Chao's belligerence in addition to its futile advance and was instead pained by the bar just now. It cowed as it subconsciously took two steps back, letting out a low growl as if threatening Lin Chao to stay back.
Oblivious to the low growl, Lin Chao continued closing in on the canine.
The Golden Hound was infuriated, baring its teeth and dove a little to the front, to which Lin Chao swung his steel bar up as a counterattack. Unexpectedly, the dog shuddered once it saw the bar and yelped, lowering its head to turn tail before flee.
It ran for the second time.
Lin Chao was rather speechless. He did not think that this Golden Hound would be so cowardly that it would get unnerved by just one whack.
Watching the Golden Hound leave, Lin Chao could not catch it even if he wanted to give chase. He turned back to finish burning the Peril Strain lest other mutated beasts ate the corpse. The carcass had high viral content and could become a catalyst to the mutated beasts, promoting their evolution speed.
Unforeseen to Lin Chao, something black fell from the Peril Strain's chest area when the body was being burned. It was squares and angles… Was it actually a tiny black box?
Lin Chao suspected his sight but upon scrutiny, it was indeed a small box made from an inky black metal. It was only the size of a baby's fist with a surface etched with bizarre and disorderly dark golden lines.
Huh?
Lin Chao picked up the small black box to realize in amazement that it was cool to the touch. It was not even scalding when he touched it but instead, felt as if he had just retrieved it from a freezer.
Doing a double-take, Lin Chao thought that it was rather peculiar but this was not a place to study it. He pushed the box into his pocket and returned to his unit.
Steering clear from a few zombies on his way back, Lin Chao was fast to arrive at the building that was now cleared of zombies and took the elevator to the eighteenth floor.
He went back to his room upon safely return and took off his clothes, magazine arm guards, along with everything else. Then, he held a flying knife and peeled the crystal exterior of the multi-evolution nucleus.
It was only a short moment before a crack was carved on the protective crystal by the blade.
Lin Chao picked it up and tipped his chin quickly with a mouth wide open.
The life energy in the crystal was very thick, like mucus, and slid down from the crack into Lin Chao's awaiting mouth before going into his stomach.
Just as he swallowed the ice-cold life energy, he felt a rush of warmth traveling from his stomach to his entire body. The temperature of that warmth continued rising and began feeling like a fireball that ultimately made him feel as if it was going to burn him into ashes!
Unimaginable heat engulfed him, and he felt as if he had been placed in a sea of fire.
An ordinary person would coil back so fast when he felt his finger being burned but Lin Chao currently felt like he was being set alight from the inside out. He questioned himself if he would combust in the very next second.
His tenacity kept him from passing out, so he clearly felt as if the heat traveling through him had countless little worms crawling along. The itch was insufferable!
He was flaming. He was in agony. He was itching.
Lin Chao thought he was going crazy. His first experience evolving was far from being this anguishing as he obtained special life energy that did not modify his body as much as what he was experiencing now.
He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth, not making a sound.
Seconds and minutes ticked by that felt like centuries.
Lin Chao did not know how long it had been before he felt the heat within him subsiding. He did not know if it was due to his body acclimatizing to the high temperature or if his nervous system was now numb.
When he opened his eyes once more, he immediately felt as if his entire view of the world was now changed. Like scenery popping after rain, things looked exceptionally clear. The familiarity from his past life came back to him once more as his evolved vision made him feel at home and assured.
He cast his gaze.
The situation of the road outside the residential area was crystal clear without the use of binoculars. The wandering zombies, down to every tiny pore and festering flesh on them, felt as if they were in front of him. He could even see the meridians in the decaying meat!
His vision was extraordinary!
Lin Chao estimated that his vision was at least five times better than a regular person.
He was at the threshold. When a human's vision was improved five times beyond its original state, one would gain the motion capture ability which was basically dynamic vision.
Dynamic vision enabled one to clearly see the enemy's every move during battle.
Evasion was only possible when movements were clearly seen. Should Lin Chao have to fight the Golden Hound once more, he could ensure that it would not even graze the corner of his clothes.
Aside from an enhancement to his sight, Lin Chao's other senses were similarly upgraded five times beyond what a regular human possessed.
His ears could now hear the soft breeze outside the window and the friction of the footsteps against the ground when the zombies moved in the residential estate. He could smell the sweat on Lin Shiyu who was in the next room and the scent in his neighbor's unit as well as the units downstairs.
His sensitive sense of smell allowed him not only to note very faint scents, but he could also determine the location of the scent's owner based on its direction.
At this moment, Lin Chao could tell where the zombies were standing in the neighboring units based on a single whiff along with the furniture arrangement of their homes and where the strewn clothes were.
His sense of smell was like a formless eye that could see what one could not visually discern.
It was not an exaggeration. Even a normal person could tell where some things were based on their sense of smell, like a banana placed on one's left – one could guess where it was even when blindfolded. Lin Chao's sense of smell was now five times sharper than a human's. It covered a wider range in addition to its superior identifying ability!
In spite of it, these were basic physical attributes. Purely judging from one's physique, Lin Chao was on the same level as a special zombie, except the latter had much lower intelligence. Having parallel physical attributes, Lin Chao could easily kill a special zombie.
What really mattered to him was the two special abilities that came with the multi-evolution nucleus!
