The Trial of The Ruins

Lin Chao was not in a hurry to consume the evolution nucleus he had obtained. He planned to keep it for Lin Shiyu. A special evolution nucleus could at most boost only half a time of his current physique now but given to Lin Shiyu, it could turn her into a Special Evolved with a physique three times more enhanced!

Hence, she would be able to survive even if she was placed in the base city.

Returning to the room, Lin Chao explained the evolution nucleus to Lin Shiyu and passed her the soft blue crystal.

"This little thing can double or even triple my strength?" Lin Shiyu observed the gem-like pale blue crystal, not expecting such a beautiful item with a mystical effect to be inside the horrendous zombies.

Fan Xiangyu stared at the pale blue crystal longingly. She could sense the rich, condensed energy within. If it were given to her, she could perhaps evolve once more.

Cutting open the thin membrane on the surface of the crystal, Lin Shiyu tipped her head then swallowed the sticky light blue liquid inside.

The sticky fluid glowed an incredibly faint blue and was vaguely scented in an unusual aroma, sliding right into her stomach through her throat. After two minutes, she felt her body reacting to the liquid; all her muscles, cells, and bones felt insufferably painful like they were being burned.

Lin Shiyu's snow-white skin was shaded red as she sweated profusely. The black and white dress on her was instantly soaked.

Excruciating! It was gut-wrenching! She gritted her teeth and thought of only one thing. I must endure it! I mustn't be a burden to lil bro!

She was unaware of how much time elapsed until her agony was slightly reduced, but before she could heave a sigh of relief, an overwhelming itch overwhelmed her bones as if countless worms were crawling inside her.

It was her bones being fortified and the flesh on them transforming.

Lin Shiyu pushed through with all her might.

Soon, the wrenching itch and pain faded, replaced by a strange force that gushed from within. She opened her eyes and immediately noticed her exceptionally clear vision; her myopia was completely cured and she could see far. She felt very light too as if she had no weight and could float with a lighter step.

Bzz, bzz…

When her black hair swished, it sparked tiny purple shocks.

"My special power is controlling the electricity and lightning?" Lin Shiyu stretched a finger out; the tip of her finger buzzed with a purple spark at once that flickered nonstop like a tiny snake.

Lin Chao smiled. The Electricity/Lightning was the same as his Light, both were Enigma powers; they were not as immediately effective as the Battle series but they covered a wide range and possessed tremendous growth potential. Enigma Evolveds in the later stage were always harder to tackle than the Battle Evolveds!

Acquiring the special ability for the first time, Lin Shiyu eagerly wanted to try it out; Lin Chao did not stop her, letting her go down and practice with some normal zombies. She was a Special Evolved now, safe from infection even if she were to injure herself.

Thirty kilometers was the range of the Organism Detector. After a night of anticipation, there was a total of eleven special zombies that were drawn over, all of them killed by Lin Chao.

Obtaining eleven evolution nuclei, Lin Chao's physique was brought up to fifteen times but his cells were not yet saturated, unable to upgrade him to Level E.

Lin Chao was not in a hurry. He brought Lin Shiyu and Fan Xiangyu again to the entrance of the ruins. Although he was not yet a Level E Evolved, he was confident that he was able to enter.

The previous Peril Strain was not in Level E as well but it could enter the ruins, thus Lin Chao guessed that the ruins had an unstated condition, that was possessing ten times of physique.

Looking at the dingy wall, Lin Chao extended his arm to touch it. Ripples spread out on the wall instantly.

Swaa!

A powerful suction came from Lin Chao's palm and pulled his entire body in. The silvery-white space appeared in his sight once again; everywhere else was white and empty, leaving space for a dark golden ball that hovered in the center.

"Examining intruder…"

"Level F Genetics, unqualified!"

"Level E Physique, hidden condition matched, entry granted!"

A projection appeared on the dark golden ball. It was the image of an incredibly beautiful woman with nearly impeccable features; however, her face was icy without any liveliness with a faint golden, vertical pupil eye on her forehead.

Hearing the artificial-like voice, Lin Chao was relieved. There was a hidden condition indeed.

"Welcome to the Gendaya No.6 Ruins. Do you want to accept the trial?" The three-eyed lady on the dark golden ball moved her lips, an emotionless voice then rang in Lin Chao's mind.

'Gendaya No.6 Ruins?' Lin Chao was astonished.

He had thought that this was one of the Great Chinese ruins that he was familiar with. However, he had not expected it to be one of the top ten most famous ruins in the later era! During the post-apocalypse, this ruins was located in a small town in North America; countless survivors had gone forth in admiration, wanting to obtain the treasure inside it, but all of them had failed.

This ruins was not an Exploration ruins that could be thoroughly scouted with an entourage and took time. It was a rare Trial ruins.

To obtain the treasure inside, one must pass the trial given by the ruins.

Lin Chao had heard of things regarding this ruins. Its trial was not complicated as there were only three categories, genetics, determination, and skill!

Accordingly, if one had simultaneously received the highest rating of '3S' in all three tests, one could earn the one of a kind treasure of this ruins!

No one knew what the unique treasure was but someone knew that the treasure gained by one of the three big shots in the North America region, Zeus, upon receiving a 2S rating, had boosted him from ninety-something on the global ranking right to the seventh!

This was how the mentioned ruins made it into the world's top ten ruins chart.

'I didn't expect that this ruins was actually in the Chinese region during the early stage of apocalypse a hundred plus years ago.' Lin Chao was rather surprised, promptly choosing to accept the trial.

"Trial begins. The first category, skill test!"

The three-eyed lady on the dark golden ball was expressionless. As her voice disappeared, Lin Chao felt his vision turned pitch black before he appeared in a dark enclosed room.

"Please choose your weapon."

The three-eyed woman's voice rang in his head. Without thinking, Lin Chao answered, "A spear!"

A white radiance tailed his voice as a spear made of platinum manifested in the air.

Lin Chao figured that this was a simulation world of the brain. It was not reality, so he would be okay even if he did die here.

"Please choose your level."

Lin Chao did not recklessly choose the highest level of difficulty, prepared to warm himself up first.

"Level A trial begins…"

"Time: 60 seconds!"

"Mission: Kill twenty low-level zombies!"

"The countdown begins now…"
