friends to the rescue

It may have been my fault that Alex left because I snapped at him. I had no idea why but I was just pissed at him. For the second time, I drowned myself in lime and gin till I dropped on the floor and laughed to myself. A Korean drama was playing on tv. I have half a liter of gin that I was drinking straight from the bottle.

I was fucking wasted.

My insides were burning from the alcohol. The TV was still playing. I was lying on the floor, hammered. What's wrong with me?

The door opened and Anna looked in. She spotted me in the floor looking miserable and she frowned. She took a cautious step and sat beside me.

She took the bottle from me and took a swig. "Josh called me."

I sat down and rested my back on the couch, my legs stretched out in front of me.

"Alex is at his place."

Oh, that's where he was and he couldn't even bother calling me or send me a message. But I wasn't angry. I guess the alcohol fizzled out all my anger.

"He also said something about you and him."

I looked at her, embarrassed, but I didn't dare open my mouth.

She smiled at me and wrapped an arm around me, her head rested on my shoulders. "We weren't this close when we dated."

I chuckled. "Yeah, because you hated me."

"Good point." She laughed. "No, not really." She sat up straight and looked at me. " I just felt like you really did not want me, that you dated me just because, you know?"

"I.."

"I know I treated you like crap." She laughed. "But I just did it for fun."

"You're so twisted."

She scrunched her nose and pouted. "it's because I know you're... different."

"Different?" I raised a brow at her.

She nodded. " I kinda know you're swaying for the other team."

Huh?

"Nevermind." She grinned and took another swig.

For hours we drank and laughed and talked about our relationship back then, our fights and our dates and our friends.

"What's up with you and Josh  by the way?" I asked her when I remembered my conversation with Josh.

"He confessed he likes me." She blushed. "I do too, actually."

I believed her. Her cheeks flushed pink and her hazel eyes sparkled.

"That's good." I said. "Are you dating him?"

"No, not yet. I had to give him a hard time first, of course."

Beautiful, with a twisted personality. But I didn't say anything because I still love my life.

"How about you and Alex?"

I shrugged. "I don't know." I really don't.

"But you like him?" I was surprised at her straightforwardness but I knew this question was bound to be asked.

"I think so."

The smile on her face widened but she did not make any comment. She just stood up and stretched.

"It's almost 8, curfew, gotta go." She smiled and went to the door. "You ok now?"

"I guess."

Then she left. And again, I was back to square one. The tv  was playing. I was lying on the floor, hammered, thinking what's wrong with me.

Back at her apartment, Anna pulled out her phone and called Josh.

"He's miserable, " she said, laughing.

"Yeah, same here." Josh responded. He was pertaining to Alex, drunk and asleep on his couch.

"Those two are so stupid. They obviously like each other."

"Yep. They do." Josh looked at his best friend with concern. "I just wonder what they'll do. You know I was never really supportive of him." He felt something in his heart, a slight tug as he regard Alex's sleeping face, even in his sleep it was like he's deep in thought.

"Maybe it's time to, yeah?"

"Yeah, I guess so."

Anna fixed herself a cup of coffee and looked out the window. From her room she could see Alex's house. The curtains were drawn and the lights from the tv flickered. "I just hope they figure it out."
