The Truth Is Out (4)

The Royal Hotel,

Executive Suite,

Late at night.

Ivy walked out of the room before turning back and softly closing the door behind her.

Walking forward, she sat on one of the twin red sofas in the large living room and asked no one in particular.

"What about Almund?''

''Taken care of.''

Replied a voice.

Turning her head towards the window, she saw her bodyguard Edward standing still, as he looked outside towards the New York skyline jeweled with many buildings.

"What about the problem in Greece?''

She asked again before bending her body towards the table to pick up the Bordeaux glass of red wine poured out for her.

''Also taken care of.''

Edward again responded as he stood in the same spot, his eyes dark as he mused over something before finally asking.

''Is James asleep?''

"Yeah..."

Ivy answered as she turned the glass in her hand, watching it intently as the red liquid stained the glass inside before finally settling down.

''He was pretty tired as it was his first time meeting so many people at once, but I think he enjoyed himself.''

She told him before leaning back on the sofa.

"What about you?"

Edward asked again as he stood near the window, disappearing in the pure white curtains as they fluttered in the wind.

''It was fine, I guess?''

Ivy said as she took a sip of the wine.

''I was looking at you...''

"So?''

She asked calmly.

''I saw how hard you tried to look away from him and how your gaze shifted to him from the corner of your eyes as you spoke.''

"Sigh..."

Taking a deep exhalation, Ivy put down her glass on the table.

''Fine, alright."

She said.

"But all I did was look only... nothing wrong with that.''

"The problem was not you looking at him but the hurt I saw that passed your eyes when you looked at him.''

''How can you tell exactly what I am thinking every time?''

She asked as she turned her head to look at him.

''Because I know you.''

He answered.

Giving a self-deprecating smile she told him.

''I am an idiot, aren't I? Even after all he did...the second I looked at him, all the past feelings just rushed over me.

All of a sudden, I felt so overwhelmed.

When I saw him after so many years, the first thing I noticed and thought was that how much James resembled him.

Even though he was a complete a**hole to me and a sorry excuse for a husband, he was a model parent to James... he was always there for him every night to put him to bed.

Sometimes I think to myself, 'Did I do the right thing?' Would James have been happier with Damon? You know how much James was attached to him when he was young.

I feel so terrible even for thinking like this...but sometimes I can't help myself as this constant question roams my mind.''

She said as she sported a bitter smile on her face.

''It doesn't matter what you are thinking, as long as you don't wish to go back to him.''

Edward told her as he continued to look out of the window.

"No... never.''

Ivy said resolutely as she focused he gaze on the wine glass.

''No matter how much he loved James, the hurt he caused him five years ago cancelled all that.

She said with a far-away look on her face.

Seeing this, Edward let out a sigh as he said.

''I did not wish to uncover your past wounds. I just want to make sure that you know what is right and what do you want. I don't wish to see you hurt once again.''

''I know.''

Ivy said with a small smile on her face as she looked at him.

''I will also not allow anyone to hurt me this time too.''

After saying this, Ivy stood up and started walking towards her room when Edward suddenly prompted her from behind,

"You should also get over him....five years is quite a long time for a heart to heal.''

Hearing this, Ivy turned back to look at him as she told him with a small laugh in her voice.

"Who me? I am way over that idiot now... good night.''

Saying this, Ivy turned back and made her way to her room. Closing the door behind her.
