Chapter 182: Eruption of the Dead

The cart was moving, and the streets were oddly empty as I moved through the dark noble area. There were guards once and a while, but much less than normal. As I looked around, I felt a presence of some type slowly starts to focus on me with an almost bored appreciation.

Those eyes left and continued on while the fire in the sky's twilight died. The streets were more barren than normal, making me stand out. It felt odd, and this wasn't part of the plan at all. Kara was hidden under a simplistic blanket as I stuck out like a sore thumb. The guards watched me irregularly as I drove my carriage down the street, and I started to feel increasingly alone on these streets. Guards were around mansions, and those yards were locked up like a fort and ready for war. They paid little attention to me as I drove down the streets.

With the attack of that swordsman earlier, I couldn't help but feel even more exposed than I should. The plan was to erupt any minute now, and the necromancers were supposed to be moving soon. They were already late as the first distractions already hit home, and the guards were now sparse around the city. If they did not attack soon, I would be more exposed than I wanted.

My thoughts were moving, and I was gathering myself to pick up Kara and ditch the carriage. I no longer needed it and could quickly take what was worth something. I put it in the carriage to make it blend before running. Leaving the Noble district would be extremely difficult if the Necromancer guild stayed put. Trying to leave it should be simpler, but my spine was tingling.

Someone was watching me, following me, but I felt no hostility, and my spine shivered. I noticed that I was reaching the gate of the barrier of the walls to exit the noble district into the poorer sections of the city. From there, it would be easier to move, and I would practically be back in the Bloody Candies gang territory.

Each second, I doubted and looked around more and more. Dark homes and shops in the noble district had me on edge like I was in a horror movie. More and more, my spine tingled, and I grabbed my knife, palmed it in my hand, and got ready as I reached the gate. The guards as I reached were the only people in view as I approached.

"HALT!" A guard yelled out, and I slowed the carriage. "What are you delivering on such a night after the emergency bells went out?" The guard asked suspiciously, "Leaving the Noble district while the city gangs are making a fuss?" The guard continued, and I felt his suspicion of me heightened with every word he said.

The other guard looked alarmed, and I knew there were only two ways out of this, either with dead guards or bribed guards. I had only one attempt. Otherwise, they would raise the alarm. "Gentlemen," I said with a smile, "I have barely even seen any guards on the street since I left the lord's estate," I said, still not showing my face. Instead, with my free hand, I pulled out gold coins and flipped them into my hands obviously. "The Lord would be most grateful if this found his way to his friend with haste," I said, pointing to the carriage behind me, and the guards looked at me with more suspicion.

I wanted to wince as five more gold coins showed, and I grinned, showing my teeth. "Each," I said as if reciting a magic spell. Both guards looked at each other and then around, only for my spine to tingle and my head to snap to the right.

The guards also turned, looked out the gate, and looked in the same direction I was, and I quickly snapped at my horses. "MOVE!" I yelled as if I was in a panic, and the guards started running to close the gate. The carriage moved forward, and the guards started ringing the alarm due to the sight of skeletons and zombies raising a loud sound.

The gate came crashing down seconds after I left the gate, and my spine tingled as the bells rang throughout the city. Then a roar echoed through the city that made me turn towards where the fires had been and only slightly continued to burn. "SOLDIERS GATHER AND ELIMINATE THE ENEMY! MARSHAL LAW IS IN PLACE!" A Male voice echoed throughout the city as the dead came out from every corner, and the screams started to echo.

"Mistress?" Kara's voice quivered, "Is everything going to be okay?" Her innocent voice came from the blankets.

"We shall see," I said as I jumped back off the driver's seat, "Get ready; I will be carrying you soon; the carriage will no longer be of assistance to us," I told her as I leaped into the back while the horses neighed. I grabbed the box of coins, shoved it into an inventory slot, tore the blanket off Kara, and picked her up under an arm.

The horses neighed and suddenly stopped, and I leaped at the same time as a group of zombies leaped into the horses and started to tear them apart. The carriage broke apart, and Kara was covering her mouth as she witnessed a zombie and skeleton smashed to pieces before others took their place, eating the horses. I took Kara without question and leaped with energy up onto the rooftops. I hoped my assets in the city would survive this night.

"Hello, Miss," I suddenly heard as I landed on the rooftop, "I believe that little lady belongs to the lord," He continued as I turned, seeing a man in a suit. He looked at me with a pleasant smile that made my spine tingle, and I hated him in seconds. "Miss Kara, I believe the lord was looking for you tonight. Instead, you are out in the city; I believe he will punish you severely for this indiscretion."

"Master Koran?!" Kara gasped.

I felt put Kara down and felt shocked as the man had surprised me when he showed his face. It seemed the waters were deep in the Empire, and I was fishing in extremely troubled waters if this man was here.

"RAWR!" My instincts were going crazy as the dead continued filling the streets, smashing at doors and attacking the noble district gates. People were huddled in their homes, scared for their lives.

The man looked oblivious to the troubles of the guards that were fighting, and in the background, you could hear the sound of a fight picking up as the military, it seemed, attacked the horde of the dead. Someone in the Necromancer guild leaked to the city lord of this attack. The military was already here for it, and I couldn't help but wonder if I should leave Kara and run.

The man before me was dressed perfectly in a black tailcoat and buttoned up almost perfectly. He slowly pulled down white gloves, and he looked at me as he said, "Ah, Little Kara, I will deal with you later; I am sure that the City Lord will not mind me playing with you a little as long as I bring you back in one piece. But you found such a cute little playmate with you as well to my door. I will show her a proper greeting first." He spoke, and I realized what this man was.

This was the City Lords' torturer. This was the man that the city lord called to train someone, and from his demeanor, I could tell that this was not a weak man. I pulled my knife out, and he smiled, "Ah, Feisty little one, aren't you? Are you sure you want to be using a knife, though?" He asked, looking at me with a grin, "You look unfamiliar with that knife," He said, pulling out a hook covered in dried blood.

We stared at each other only for a moment when another roar of the dead erupted, and I launched myself at the man. The man grinned, and that hook suddenly seemed to be attached to a chain, and he shot it at me. I dodged, and the man's eyes widened as he realized how quick I was. The man moved with speed, with some energy that I never felt before. His mana was something cruel and unusual, whereas mine was concentrated for maximum usefulness.

He moved away from me, gliding on the rooftop as I closed the distance before his smile brightened, and a large saw appeared in his free hand. The chain tightened, and suddenly and with force, the man moved toward me faster than my own as the chain moved back into his clothes.

My instincts were going crazy, and his saw came towards my torso just inches from the rooftop, and just as I felt the edge of his serrated blade, my body moved with concentrated energy to dodge. My body waved, and pain blasted my head as the shingles of the roof shattered under my energy; at the last second, I created space for my body to dodge his saw as he launched past me on his hook. I turned as I barely dodged him without losing my breasts, and I realized I was dealing with a person with more experience than I was again.

Without delaying a millisecond from my dodge, I turned around and launched myself back towards him as the man stopped on an opposite rooftop turning around, looking a little surprised he didn't cut me. I saw him as he turned around, looking at his sawblade. I realized my assumption about his experience may have been wrong a moment ago as I concentrated my energy on my feet and cut the distance before the man fully recovered. My saw blade moved at the last second, stopping my blade from puncturing him, and his hook came down toward me.

I could still see the surprise on his face that he missed the first time, and the reactions afterward were speeds before his brain caught up. I shivered with more than just my instincts going crazy, and this man was smiling up until the moment I dodged his sawblade came down on instinct. My knee landed center of his balls, and I felt something crunch as they drove up into him.

His eyes widened, his mouth opened, and a scream of horrified pain erupted inches away from my face hurting my head. I didn't pause as I pushed the man away and watched his arms come down. My knife found his temple a moment later, ending his suffering in moments.

"RAWR!" A clast of undead against steel sounded even louder with only a short distance away, and I looked down at the man I just killed. A short battle, but this man was only caught off guard because he wasn't used to something I did. It must have been my flexibility. I only had a three-inch area to duck under his blade with the roof under me. I had made my entire body shift, move inside those three inches, and make a little bit extra so he didn't cut off my breasts. I didn't even know what his mana was, and his reaction speed was disgusting even to a sadist like myself.

I didn't know what his focus was, but thinking of it for the only moment I had now if I had been cut in that surprise, I would be the dead person now. Still, this man wasn't a fighter, and I knew that now. "H-He isn't dead!" Kara suddenly yelled out as I started to turn around. As my instincts were still flaring from all the undead.

I had no idea whether to jump or duck, but I leaped as hard as I could into the air looking down to see a hook where I stood just moments ago where it would have pierced my heart. Looking down, I saw the well-dressed, now bloody man smiling with blood coming out of his head soaking below. The man looked up at me, and I felt a primal shiver as I couldn't understand why he wasn't dead.

One eye was blown out from my insertion of the knife while the other stared at me, bloodshot. "Agaetasda" The man said as if he was still a gentleman, but the words were unintelligible. He turned to spare a glance at Kara before saying, "Basgwr, Asuohas iphf aosuhd," before looking up at me.

My mind spun as some understanding hit me, even as a surprise was a more major thing I felt. I was in the air now, and I was fucked. If I had a whip, I could redirect my fall, but here and now, I was falling into his unintelligible hands. I was going to take damage in some way, that was for sure. I already had the bruise on my back and the slight nick on my arm from the swordsman, and this beast of a dead man was looking at me with fury.

His smile was filled with blood, and his legs shook, "Deaoubf!" He yelled and launched his hook up into the sky at me. I watched as that hook came at me and quickly decided not to try and dodge. I would only get one twist of my body if it came down to that, and the energy expenditure was too significant if I wasn't already in that sort of movement. Instead, I allowed the hook to hit my arm, which would bruise, and I grabbed the chain, now twisting my body with the leverage he gave me.

Pain blasted my head in a way I never experienced before, and I screamed even as I twisted my body with the hook in my hand. I felt the wind of a knife fly past me as I dodged what looked like a projectile from his other hand, even as my unprotected foot cut into his head with my energy enhancing it with my claws out. I cut into his, feeling his blood and brain on my foot, and continued through, feeling my claws hook out his brain matter.

The pain blasted my head in a throbbing motion, and I felt my back slap the roof as I could not coordinate my landing with the excessive amount of pain I was in. Flashes of white speckled my vision, and I groaned as I tried to recover. Foreign mana had invaded, and I tried to move my energy to kill the intrusive mana causing the pain.

A minute later, I gasped as I cleansed myself of the mana the dead man hit me with and vomited from the feeling of pain. My body remembered the pain, and I vomited again as the roars of the undead filtered into my ears. The clash of steel rang, and I got back up onto my feet, a little unsteady.

Kara looked at me with large innocent eyes across from the other building looking at me scared. "A-Are you okay, Mistress?" She asked, sounding genuinely worried about me, and I shook my head.

Now I understood this piece of shit and how his mana worked. He was entirely about getting one hit and using his mana to inflict pain. The pain was disgusting and vomit-inducing, and if he had time with you, I smiled. My mind was clearing, and I hosted a new bruise. I leaped over on momentarily shackled legs and grabbed Kara in my arms.

"I am fine," I told her, turning to look back. "Sorry for the poor show," I told her as I ran towards the docks. I saw a black-cloaked person smiling and waving before darkness covered the dead body I just created. I was another ten houses away when my back shivered as that man I had just killed became a new undead to join the fight.

The eruption of the dead was just the start of this morning was just the beginning. It seemed the Necromancer Guild was already aware that I might start a little early and was ready for it. The military was prepared for them, and my face turned grim as I realized something new. Was there something waiting for me at the Docks?

With a new injury on my arm, my mind focused as I realized I might be in even deeper trouble than I thought.

Maybe picking Kara up was asking too much? I shook my head and threw away my doubt. I still had to escape, and the decision was already made. I could still abandon the interesting toy if I had to, but I already invested a lot—no point in grumbling about it now. Onwards and forwards, I moved.
