A secret clan

I shuddered as I looked over at Cerebrius. His bloodlust was filling the small carriage with tension. The two bandits were still dazed next to me while the younger boy and older men sat next to Cerebrius. The young boy was shaking.

"Why don't we introduce ourselves?"

The bandits looked at me with a smile of relief. Cerebrius's anger only escalated.

"My name is Silvius DeBrackel. And this man is my father Dejonas DeBrackel."

I nodded. The young boy was quite brave and eloquent. I like him even more now. For some reason the DeBrackel name felt familiar. I couldn't get over their azure eyes and light blue hair streaked with white.

I looked at the two dazed bandits next to me.

"And who are these two dumbasses?"

Silvius chuckled as he answered.

"My twin older brothers, Kranus and Keanu."

The two did look like twins. I was about to ask about their mother when Silvius cut to the chase.

"My mother and older sister were killed ten ago in the attack of Montchiel."

For some reason I felt like Silvius could read my mind. He averted his gaze from my eyes and nervously scratched his head.

"Which clan do you hail from?"

I looked at Silvius's trembling hands. Why was he so nervous? Cerebrius's bloodlust even faded and he wasn't wearing his vulture cloak. So what was scaring Silvius? Suddenly his whole body started to shake as he stuttered.

"Wwwwwelll-."

I clasped Silvius's shaking hand. Sympathy filled me. Whatever happened to this family must be scarring enough to make Silvius shake.

"I'm sorry Silvius I was inconsiderate. Answer me when you feel comfortable."

Silvius smiled in relief and stopped shaking. I looked over at his father. The man was simply watching me. Something felt off about them. I sighed. I'm never one to go back in my decisions. The only thing I trust more so than Varkish is my intuition.

It has saved me in the past and has allowed me to make profitable decisions. My intuition told me to have these men serve as my vassals so I should stop doubting them.

"Miss? How should I address you?"

"Cherura. Just call me Cherura."

Silvius nodded and knelt on one knee in front of me. He bowed his head and said.

"I Silvius, of the household of Debarckel vow to follow you my lady. I will execute every one of your orders no matter the extremity."

"Even if i told you to kill your father and brothers?"

Silvius flinched but answered.

"Yes."

I chuckled. He is a perfect vassal.

"Raise your head Silvius, and don't worry I was only joking. I will never make you kill your own kin."

Silvius smiled.

"I know Miss."

"Cherura."

Silvius sat back and said.

"Pardon?"

"Silvius I have told you to address me as Cherura. Don't disobey my first order."

Silvius nodded. His eyelids fluttered as he fell asleep. His father held him and nodded at me. I smiled as the father slept as well. I looked out of the window. The sun was setting. A beautiful mix of oranges and yellows filled the sky. I breathed in the forest air. It was quite relaxing.

"Can you explain to me the reason why you have impulsively taken in four bandits to be your vassals?"

I looked at Cerebrius. His expression was hard to read. Was it disappointment? Was he mad that I didn't consult him about this matter even though he is an ally?

"My intuition is enough of a reason. It is the reason why I accepted to become your ally after all."

Cerebrius smiled and nodded. He closed his eyes and dozed off as well. A blue light suddenly caught my eye.

I turned to see a small blue item shone on Silvius's forehead. I leaned in. The item was a mark. It shone brilliantly and was in the shape of a butterfly. I inhaled sharply and slumped back in my seat. No wonder Silvius was terrified of exposing his clan.

He was from the Blue moth Clan. A clan that was rumored to have been completely wiped out in the war ten years ago by the Vulture clan. Silvius must have masked the mark for a long time. But while he was asleep he had let his guard down allowing it to be shown. I turned to look at Cerebrius. He was fast asleep.

I leaned in and placed a piece of cloth on Silvius's forehead. The Debarckel name sounded noble. They must have been members of the royal family. The only survivors of the Blue Moth Clan. I sat back in the carriage. I will not let anything happen to my vassals. I promise that. I smiled as the colorful buildings of the Peacock Clan came into view. The fun was about to begin.
