March 21st, 2014. 4:00 AM.
Fort Worth. TX. Jones Hardware.
It sounded like the battle was getting close to the hardware store but it stopped and seemed to fade.
"Do you see anything Stewart." Jo asked.
"No I thought I did but it was nothing." Stewart said in a exhausted voice.
Everyone was tried the man and the woman slipped off into the bathroom and showed no sign of leaving anytime soon. My sister had fallen asleep on my mother's lap while my brother and I talked about anything we could like the G.A.T.D my brother bought up most of the subjects like jokes, girls and other things I didn't really care for. While Jo and Stew kept an eye out for help or trouble.
"Let's check the radio again see if anything has changed." Jo said
Jo turned the radio on once more.
*****THIS IS AN EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM G.A.T.D HAS TAKEN DALLAS BUT HAS FAILED TO TAKE FORT WORTH. IF ANYONE IS IN ANY OF THESE AREAS ************** PLEASE TRY AND REACH A SHELTER OR GREEN ZONE IN ********* BOMBERS WILL BE APPROACHING THE CITY IN EXACTLY 1 HOUR. THIS MESSAGE WILL REPEAT.*****
"What they can't do that people are still in the city." Stewart said in a panicked voice.
"We are in the city we need to leave." Jo said
"Lisa wake up." my mother shook our sister awake.
"We have to go it's not safe here anymore." Clayton spoke.
We quickly gathered our weapons and prepared to move the barricade the small safety wall we used to protect us from those horrors that awaited us.
"Alright help me move this, Stewart keep a look out up top." Jo said calmly.
Once we removed the barricade Jo put his head out to see if any Husk we're around.
"Do you see any?" Clayton asked in worried tone.
"No." Jo and Stewart said at the same time.
"Let's move quickly and quietly." Jo ordered.
While we started moving Stewart went and grabbed the pistol that the police officer dropped.
"You know how to use that thing." Clayton asked.
"Yeah, shouldn't be that hard just aim and shoot." Stewart said in a confident tone.
We had a little under 40 minutes till the bombing started and about 13 blocks away from the green zone. I had this feeling that we had forgotten something but I couldn't figure it out.
"Anyone else feel like we forgot something?" I asked the group.
"Yeah." everyone answered.
Jo had stopped and turned around to look at us and he realized.
"What happened to the man and woman did we leave the behind?" Jo asked in a annoyed voice.
We all were silent we didn't really know what to say. And honestly we didn't really care for those 2, they never really talked to us and never told us their names and were extremely rude.
"We can't just leave them, I'll go back and get them you guys get in that bus up ahead and hide.... and if I'm not back within 5 minutes you go on ahead."
We never understood why Jo was going through such lengths to help strangers. But we didn't say anything we just nodded our heads and he ran back. We never bothered to check cars for key's so we could just drive out , but more then likely they didn't and we didn't know how to hotwire. As we approached the bus we found it strange that we haven't seen a Husk yet they just disappeared.
"We haven't seen a single Husk since we left the store." Lisa said with a confused face.
"Maybe G.A.T.D. got them all." Stewart said in a happy voice.
"Then why bomb the city, more then likely they are further ahead of us chasing G.A.T.D." I said in a cold voice.
As we were distracted with our conversation we walked by an old friend as it grabbed Stewart's leg.
"AHHHHHH!" Stewart yelled while pulling out the gun he picked up.
"NO DON'T FIRE THAT YOU!...." I was cutoff by gunfire
*BANG**CLICK**CLICK**
Stewart had fired the gun but he only grazed the head of the Husk. The gun only had one bullet he never checked it. As Stewart was panicking he fell to the ground as the Husk took a fat chunk of meat out of his calf.
"AHHHHHHH!" Stewart cried in pain.
Stewart cries were followed by a
*SLICE*
*WHACK*
My brother had sliced the Husks head off with his shovel while I bashed Stewart skull with the crowbar. That was the first human I killed, I had to though we all new what would happen it was a mercy kill. I didn't show any emotion on the outside but in the inside I was angry these Husk bastards had forced humans to kill one another I wanted to scream. We got in the bus and sat down, I had to squeeze my crowbar in my hands to try and stop them from shaking.
"You did good little brother, you put him to rest as a human we had no other choice." Clayton said while patting my shoulder.
"Was that the cop that saved us?" Lisa asked in a sad voice
"Ye....yes it was." I said in a shaky voice.
Mom didn't say much she was still dealing with the trauma of losing her parents. We had 2 minutes till we had to leave without Jo and the others, or so we thought
"We have 32 minutes left till they drop bombs I hope Jo makes it back to us." our mother said in a worried tone.
*BANG* *BANG* five shots were heard behind us back at the store.
"It that Jo." asked Lisa
"I believe so but look we have our own problems."Clayton pointed.
Thanks to Stewart shooting earlier it attracted Husk back to the area so we had to run. At this point it would take us 20 minutes to get to the green zone. As we ran my brother and I bashing Husk left and right as we ran through the streets.
"DON'T STOP MOVING, WE ARE ALMO!...." Clayton roared before getting cut off by me.
"LOOK UP AT THE SKY!" I said while pointing up.
We all lost hope as we looked up at G.A.T.D. bombers flying over us.
"I DON'T UNDERSTAND WE. HAVE 26 MINUTES LEFT!" Clayton yelled.
"Their early." I said under my breath.
