Ace's assembled his team of people as soon as he left for office the next day. He put his trusted people to track Astrid and Enlil. He did not condone any phone tapping as he feared she would balk at the idea of him spying on him. But I am doing the exact shit now.
He has army men and women whom his father appointed for their protection. Sometimes he uses them to intimidate his opponents or simply to dig their dirt. They were highly skilled in combat, fights, planning and executing their job. With a lot of power and money involved sometimes, it includes death, but Ace tries to minimize it, not willing it to backfire them.
His private army has tattoos assigned to each, as a symbol to separate them from gangs. It is a cursive W within blue circle logo. It's tiny and only visible upon close inspection. For the sake of security his father named them Sigma Force Securities.
Ace Wagner passed Astrid and Enlil's picture to Summer Smith and Verdun Ray. They were his most competent people. He strictly warned them not to allow their identity to be exposed or risk being demoted. With instructions on hand they started their surveillance albeit discreetly.
Summer was assigned to follow Astrid while Verdun to follow Enlil. For the first 2 days, they did not see them at the Route 3 bus stop and started to doubt if Ace gave them a correct location.
By the 3rd day, they caught sight of Enlil emerging from the forests casually and boarded a bus. He went to a mall to purchase some clothes and groceries. Enlil being a Wind God with years of experience in the battlefield, decided to play along when he noticed he was being followed. He did not know who assigned those people to track him.
When he exited the mall and reached Route 3 bus stop, he saw a couple still trailing him but behaved as if they were lovers. Bantering and hugging each other. Well, let's see if they can catch me now. Enlil used his power of the wind to create a blade of wind and swiftly pushed it to the couple who were caught unaware and both fell when a sudden force of the wind pushing them.
When they stood up to look around, Enlil had gone missing. They searched the perimeters but could not find a clue as to where he went. Both looked at each other and decided to work separately. Their subject was as slippery as an eel.
Almost a week passed by with no sight of them causing Summer and Verdun to report to Ace of their predicament. Ace did not take it lightly. He told them to scour the forests area in a radius of 10km from the bus stop and look for any establishment that resembled house or dugout.
They started their search by dawn to prevent them from getting tired too easily. They camped and combed the given area and bumped upon an old house which looked abandoned. Upon further inspection, they decided it could have been built for temporary lodging by botanist or forest conservationist. It was actually an old house belonging to Astrid, before their house was redone.
Summer decided to build a camp a kilometre away from the abandoned house. They soon slept, lethargic after being in the forests for 5 days.
On the other hand, Astrid and Enlil looked at their tent and walked back to their house silently.
`Do you want to allow them to continue this farce?', Enlil was tensed. He had to train Astrid in the house but he preferred outdoors.
`Do you know who assigned them?', Astrid questioned.
`I suspect your boyfriend has a hand in this', Enlil eyed her sideways.
`I don't know, Enlil', she could not understand why he put her into surveillance, but she figured he wanted to see where she stayed. Maybe he was worried about her safety.
Astrid has been using Route 7 bus stop, to go to her classes. Enlil told her it was a stamina built up for her puny muscles. Which was the reason behind her missing from the picture. She must wake up early and do stretches, running, and learn boxing skills. By afternoon, she studied with Enlil and practised how to use Wind to her command. It was extremely difficult and by the 4th day, she managed to grasp the basics of grasping the wind.
She had to keep her mind clear, like a blank canvas and touch her lower back, invoking the wind to guide her, help her and listen to her. It took time just to feel the wind dancing around her fingers.
After finishing her school, she chats with Ace or sometimes texts him, before exhaustion takes over and enveloped her to sleep.
She continued with this routine until Enlil brought her to see a couple with a tent near their old house. She was aware of Enlil being followed and she became more cautious with her journey. Looking over her shoulders, keeping her head down and observing any sudden movements.
Astrid took a piece of paper and something on it. Enlil shook her head and snatched the paper away.
`You are giving yourself away, idiot. Write on the dirt', he passed her a tree branch.
`What if it rains, stupid?', she put her hands around her hip and retorted.
Astrid looked around for an idea. She went to a nearby tree and snapped several leaves. Enlil told her to cover her hands before scribbling anything on it. Both walked back to their house and she placed the leaves on a table, carefully.
Astrid took a paintbrush and wrote something on the leaves, making sure to use a different handwriting style. Enlil was amused by what she wrote.
`Tomorrow, you need to see if they react to this. And we can pinpoint to the culprit', Astrid spoke with a smirk. We will see how smart your boss is.
Enlil quietly went to Summer and Verdun's camp and placed the leaves inside. He was told to follow the couple tomorrow and find out who was spying on them. How quick the tables turned. Hunted becomes the hunter.
