Drunken Night

"Tell me about yourself," Cara asked.

Jian Yu took a gulp of wine before he started his story.

———

Jian Yu was from one of the prominent families in the capital, the Wu. His dad had helped the previous emperor ascend the throne and was thus bestowed with riches. Jian Yu was educated from young, studying from early in the morning til midnight.

He was the top scholar of his year, beating all his peers by a large measure. When he became an official his family had put pressure on him to follow in his father's footsteps.

Indeed, he was a chancellor at age 19, which was unheard of.

It was nothing short of impressive, except...

"Your life is so boring," Cara muttered as she heard his story.

Jian Yu furrowed his brows. All his life he had been praised about how good he was. He had been raised knowing that he was the best and people saw him as a role model. He was even considered a genius to some, and yet, this girl said that his life was boring?

———

"How dare you!" Jian Yu exclaimed in rage before he could stop himself.

But Cara didn't seem to care about his anger as she continued, "You have achieved so much, but don't you feel empty inside? You spent your whole life studying, so you had no childhood. You have not experienced love, not had any failures. All you have done is follow what others told you to. When you take away the achievements... there's nothing else in your life. No meaning and nothing to live for..."

Jian Yu stopped to ponder about what she said. It was true, national affairs had occupied his mind this whole time. Even this task to settle the plague, he had merely seen it as a distraction.

Studying was all he had known and the reason why he needed to be the best was because of his family's wishes. It was not a decision of his.

This doctor had barely known him, and yet she had uncovered his largest fear and weakness so easily. Jian Yu reached for the alcohol and took a few more shots.

Seeing that, Cara tried to match his drinking speed as well. Why did Jian Yu say he couldn't drink? He was obviously a far better drinker than her.

His flushed face when drunk, was a lot like Dan. And she wondered if his body would be the same. Dan's body was utterly delicious and Cara's cheeks heated up again.

Trying to distract herself, she downed a few more bowls of wine. Welp, bad idea. She was now even more tipsy and the thoughts in her head were naughtier than before.

She drunkenly moved closer to Jian Yu and held his face with both her hands, "Are you sure you are not Dan? You're exactly the same as him..."

Jian Yu was offended by her words as her swatted her hands away casually and replied, "You can't even tell the difference between me and your friend? I'm obviously much better looking."

Cara leaned closer and her hands involuntarily reached out to touch his face again. Her fingers were calloused, probably from tending to patients. But it was the first female hand he had contact with besides his parents and siblings. And despite the slight roughness, they were very gentle.

"Your forehead is the same. Big and ugly," Cara started.

Jian Yu scoffed, but she continued before he could say anything. Her fingers moved down to his eyes and he closed them at her touch.

"Your eyes, they look the same. Though he smiles a lot more than you, they are a very sexy pair of eyes," Cara spoke softly.

Her fingers moved further down. He could sense his skin tingling in all the places she had touched and it evoked an unknown feeling in him.

"This nose that always collided with mine every time we kiss. Even though it is not the best looking, but it's not too big nor too small."

Immediately Jian Yu knew that she was referring to her lover. Something stirred in him when she said that.

Her fingers then moved down to his lips, brushing across lightly. "These pair of lips fit perfectly with mine. I will never forget the feeling…"

Jian Yu's interest was piqued by her words. Can two lips fit perfectly? He had never been with a girl, much less experience kissing one before.

"How do you know they fit perfectly?" Jian Yu asked curiously. When he glanced at her, she was no longer looking at his lips but was eyeing him, a wry smile twisting her lips.

Without warning, she leaned forward and brushed her lips lightly with his own. It was a feather-like kiss but it put him in a state of confusion, shocked at her boldness and action. Forget never having kissed before, girls usually did not take the initiative!

As Cara moved away, she searched his eyes for a sign of rejection. When it did not come, she went in yet again. This time the kiss was more firm.

She gently licked and sucked at his bottom lip, seeking for entrance to his mouth. A hunger aroused in her, as she was eager to remember the taste of his lips. As he parted his lips to breathe, Cara took the opportunity to gain access. Though Jian Yu did not respond at the start, he seemed to get the hang of it as he responded with the same fevor.

He didn't know why he kissed back but it felt right at the time. He didn't know how to kiss but she was a good teacher and led him gently with her tongue.

And boy did he understand what she meant when she said that their lips fit perfectly. Her soft luscious lips molded to his, and their tongues moved in harmony.

Jian Yu was so caught up in the kiss that he didn't notice his arms were now holding her waist and pulling her closer to him.

When they both stopped to pant for air, their faces were flushed.

Jian Yu had never been in this situation so while he was normally calm and collected, he too was lost in how he should handle it.

For Cara, it had dawned on her while they were kissing that even though he was a quick learner, he was new to this and was not the Dan that she was so familiar with.

"It must have been your first kiss, I must have startled you. Sorry." Cara spoke first.

"How did you know that?" Jian Yu asked curiously. He must have been bad at it, he thought.

Cara simply smirked and said "Your initial actions told me that you were unfamiliar, but you're a quick learner."

Jian Yu blushed at her words, but after thinking about it…. This woman was too bold!

"Yaaaaaa!!!!!" he shouted.

Cara jerked at the sudden fright.

"How dare you. Are you a hooker? Do you kiss many guys? Why would you kiss me like this? Don't you know the proper etiquette?" Jian Yu started rattling off.

Cara laughed in amusement, as she wondered whether she should be offended by his words.

"Are you even listening?" Jian Yu's voice came to her ears.

"No… But you look really cute when you're mad." Cara flirted.

Seeing how confused he looked, she laughed and took the chance to escape and run back to the inn.

Jian Yu was lost for words. All his life he had grown up around men and the women he'd met were usually very passive.

He had never experienced a lady flirting so shamelessly with him before!

Seeing her figure getting smaller, he too stood up and started to make his way back. His fingers were on his lips the whole time, trying to remember the details.

That night, a certain realisation hit Cara. Even though they looked the same, they were very much different people. Jian Yu was a personality of his own. And even though she was initially attracted because of his looks, there was so much more to him.
