Chapter 10: The Games Begin

Over the next few days Lu Bu saw more of this new world and was shocked by the sheer size of it all trees were easily 10m and most "Small" beasts that approached were about 2m tall. The guards seemed to have it handled as they themselves tended to be 2m tall, one would assume due to humans on the continent evolving to match the beasts, and yet there was still a large incident halfway through their trip.

The Holy Raiment Empire had a great roads system interconnected between its cities but could not monitor all locations on the roads properly. As a result many inns had sprouted along the road sides and in some locations even became small villages. As the Lu escort was approaching a rest stop on the road that had an Inn they found themselves with a rare sight. An Inn aflame was in front of them.

Bandits in the Holy Raiment Empire would rarely be so bold, the sight really astounded Lu Da. Such an act was akin to suicide for any bandit group as apart from being a great source of goods for their raids, these roadside inns were special existences in the kingdom and as such destruction of an inn was met with powerful retaliation by the Kingdom. Inn's found on government routes facilitated trade in the region and were a reflection of the local Kings face and authority. Attacking this road side inn was equivalent to attacking the Kingdom itself. The inn was owned by a private citizen and not government funded, it was however a heavy source of taxes and was adequately protected as such.

Coming out of the carriage and seeing the burned down remnants Lu Da was having a headache. He couldn't prove it but he was already blaming his sister-in-law for the event.

Lu Da:

" First Squad check for survivors and review the inns remnants for any traces of the attackers. Second squad set a perimeter and be on your guard, lets make sure these bastards aren't still around!"

In the hustle and bustle of the men following orders Lu Da hadn't noticed that his daughter's eyes seemed to have lit up. A proper lady in his eyes would be firm, elegant, stand strong at his side, and would welcome a fight with the bandits, just like his wife. Ironically he expected different from his daughter who should act prim and proper with the elegance a lady of the court would, and rely on her father for protection.

Opposite to his desire though the Young Miss named Lu Mei had none of the so called feminine traits you would find in noble women of the court on the Ares continent. Like most women of the Lu clan she had a desire for battle but she was a bit different from the rest and she knew it.

Her pranks had managed to curb her itch and strange desires over the years but she knew her innocent mischief was slowly becoming more destructive. If it were not for the anchor known as Lu Bu she knew some of her pranks would have severely injured people or maybe even killed.

The sight in front of her though showed her a new world.

The sheer destruction fascinated her!

The sight before her was mesmerizing and the heat of the flames made her feel comfort. In her mind the guards putting out the flames were blasphemers destroying a precious piece of art!

Lu Bu on the other hand was taking in the sight of his Young Miss and feeling extremely uncomfortable. To Lu Bu the sight in front of him was horrifying. He came from a period of time on Earth that had never experienced war or had major crimes like murder occur. Nonetheless these situations could be simulated in VR games so while horrifying they were not traumatizing. Despite that seeing the traces of glee that could be found on his Young Miss, he remembered that while the continent was waging a so called war on demon beasts, they were also waging war on each other in far more terrifying ways. Other humans were a far more terrifying enemy then any beast and this was his first true experience with that fact.

As Lu Bu was ruminating on the expression the young miss was showing he heard a whistle in the air coming from behind them. The second he heard that whistle Lu Bu immediately moved his body to hug the Young Miss and push her down for cover, just like a good cannon fodder #1 would. Instinctively Lu Bu knew Sir Lu was outside the carriage, him and the young miss were facing the right side window, and wind couldn't possibly have that noise. In Lu Bu's mind while archery was on the weaker side on the Ares continent a mere Mortal Fighter Archer could make short work of two kids whose roots had yet to awaken.

Lu Mei on the other hand was disturbed from her trance and quite frankly was angry at Lu Bu's disruption. She instinctively tried to push him back and managed to do so for a mere second but eventually met the floor in a heavy impact.

She thought: How dare he ruin this moment for her! She's done nothing but treat him well! He a mere branch family member and Death Warrior enjoyed some of the best things the Lu clan had to offer by being at her side!

Lu Mei:

"LU BU GET THE HELL--"

She was then cut off by Lu Bu's Roar

"ENEMY ATTACK!"

At these words Lu Mei immediately ceased her movement. She then wiggled herself underneath Lu Bu to turn herself to face him. During this process Lu Mei felt a warm liquid on her shoulder, as she tried to see what it was all she could see was red. Lu Bu currently had a hole where his shoulder should be located, there was so much blood.

Her immediate thought at this moment was " Shit and I really liked this dress too. Daddy said it was a rare treasure I hope its easy to clean... Well who cares maybe he'll just give me a new one."

She then saw Lu Bu's face. It was pale but his eyes like usual seemed crystal clear, unlike the other kids he never cried when hurt, he wouldn't even make a sound. This was the main reason she never pranked him even once, he was simply too boring.

Since the wolf incident it had come to her attention that Lu Bu was strong, stronger than her. This truth in fact bothered her, she told herself her shield naturally had to be the strongest, and that it was only proper he be stronger than her. Yet seeing him not make a sound while having that wound and still holding her down while spilling his dirty blood on her, made her happy, angry, and sad.

She was happy because no matter how strong Lu Bu was she was his shield whatever made that wound on him could seriously hurt her and she was happy to not be hurt. She was sad because her pretty dress was being ruined by his dirty blood, and because her shield was now broken. Where would she get a new shield like this one. Most of all she was angry though as it was now clear that her shield, the one all the adults praised, was so weak!
