I Wish You Didn't Love Me
- Repercussions -
* Present Day *
I felt a vibration coming from my purse. My phone was ringing. I rummaged through my purse and saw that Damion was calling. Before I answered the phone I whipped off coffee that was on the screen. I guess some of it made it into my purse.
"What is it, Damion?" I said frustrated.
"S-Sorry for bothering you Miss but I was wondering when you'd get here for the meeting."
"What meeting?" I said in confusion. I heard him chuckle through the phone.
"Our meeting with the J.R Company. You've been planning for it for some time now." I smacked myself in the head. How did I forget such an important meeting? I guess I haven't been thinking straight today. I took a quick breath before responding.
"Yea yea I'm just taking some time for myself before I get to the meeting. You know girl things and such. But uh don't worry I'll be there so make sure to get everything prepared." I hung up and tried to keep myself calm. I can justify forgetting about the date but not about the company meeting. I'm not myself today.
After making a quick stop by a clothing store I was on my way to work. It's been a while since I've walked to work. And I have to admit it's a lot better than I thought it would be. Having a car is nice and all but I missed this. Looking around seeing people living out their daily life. It reminds me of when I was in college, back when I didn't have as much stress and I do now. I haven't had a break like this in a while.
I just have to get through this meeting and I'll be fine. I can go home and sleep off this stupid hangover. I guess I was lost in thought again because before I knew it I was at work. I composed myself before I walked in.
I was greeted by my staff and employees. Looking around I spotted Damion approaching with papers in hand.
"Miss, I need you to sign these documents for the meeting." I grabbed them and quickly scanned them before handing them back.
"I will in just a minute. I left my papers in my office." He just nodded and put away the documents.
We walked to the elevator, once we got inside he pressed the floor number to my office. I'm beginning to feel nervous about this meeting but I know it will be okay. This is something I've been waiting for. The next big step into the world of business. The door opened with a low ding and I made my way to my office.
As I was about to open the door I noticed it was already opened. I looked over at Damion and he looked back confused.
"Should I call security?" He reached for his phone that was located in his back pocket.
"No," I stopped his hand from going to his phone. "Just wait here." He nodded and stayed in place. As I pushed the door open and saw someone that for the first time in a long time scared me.
"Mother, what are you doing here?" I said confused.
"Well, I couldn't help but come here after finding out you skipped another engagement." She was sitting on my desk looking at me with no emotion. I couldn't read her this time, and that worried me. Once I got my head back together and went over to my desk.
"Listen, mother, I get that you're mad and we can talk about this later but right now I have a meeting and I can't talk." I opened my desk drawer. It was empty. I frantically went through all of the drawers in my desk but I couldn't find it.
My heart sank, I looked up wanting it not to be where I think it is. But unfortunately, I was right because there it was. In her hands.
"Your last assistant told me this was important for the future of your company?" She held it up showing it off as a way to provoke me.
"Mom," I almost couldn't believe what she was doing. Something like this, was it planned? She approached me carefully. She just smiled and set my hair neatly behind my ear.
"I didn't want to do things like this but you gave me no alternative. I even gave you notice." She's right, she did warn me.
"I know I made a mistake and I did want to go I just-"
"I can't introduce you to any more of my friend's sons because you reject them all" She looked through the documents. "You're making things very hard for me Soran."
"I'm sorry." I couldn't even look at her.
"Don't be sorry yet my love," she said while closing the binder. She made her way to the door. "Before I go, until you find a way to fix this, I'm going to keep these documents safe with me." How am I going to fix something like this?
