Veil Between The Worlds

Bracelets that nullified one's abilities were presented to Zephrite, the human unsuspecting of Zephrite's plan. The human wrapped one of the bracelets around Zephrite's right arm.

Before the bracelet latched onto Zephrite's left, she attacked, extending her one free arm forward. With Zephrite's telekinetic abilities, she forced the human to fly backward with only one movement. The other humans that lingered just outside Zephrite's room were alarmed in an instant.

The VOICE instructed Zephrite, telling her to become compliant with the humans, then to strike. The VOICE said he would handle the rest.

A human dove toward a button on the wall, fear in his eyes. Before he could stretch his arm out to click it, Zephrite sent the human flying into the wall at full-force.

She strained to use the full extent of her power; the floor swayed beneath her as she grew dizzy. The world seemed to spin slower than usual, her head lighter than a feather. She reached for a grip on the world as she struggled to stay grounded.

A warm liquid touched her mouth - she felt it with one finger. Her green eyes recognized the dark forest-green blood as her own. The blood of hers poured from her nose, like a waterfall. A human ran to her with an elongated taser.

She further focused her energy, charging it with only one fist. A mysterious mark, that of a jet black color, formed on her arm. It was etched deeply into her skin, the texture rough and bumpy. Like a blast of fire, it burned with a great ferocity. She gritted her teeth, then gripping onto her arm.

The stampede of humans that charged at her were then slammed into the ceiling and walls. The humans that remained went to take cover, locking themselves outside of the hallway that lead to this room - Department B.

On a desk, her eye had caught a roll of bandages. She rushed to the desk, wrapping the bandaging around her arm. The fire that burned her arm shrank into a much smaller fire, one that'd been subdued with a cool water.

Her eyes darted around the room. A panel of buttons and switches stood before her, the buttons blinking of red, blue and green. She glanced behind her, an array of the residents' rooms lining the wall.

She destroyed the panel, a plentiful amount of the Bad Place's residents released from their rooms all at once. A deafening siren bellowed, her powers weakening by the second. She used what little power she had left to create a hole in the wall.

She bolted (her arm tingling with a tremendous pain), a handful of the other patients following after her. Some of the residents darted from out of their rooms, others perplexed, peering out from their rooms. The humans returned to the department, subduing the residents that hadn't escaped.

A parking lot greeted her, the asphalt warm on her feet. Beyond it, she spotted a city, buildings towering above her. She traveled across the street, venturing down the sidewalk until she'd found herself in an alleyway. People walked past as she looked out.

She gnawed off the bracelet. Her grip on the world returned.

A shadow was cast, a silver light creating a crack in the earth below. It was the barrier that divided Earth from this realm. It expanded, larger and larger it stretched. She was enveloped in the light.

Darkness surrounded her. She glanced up to see the VOICE, Canis. It was another demon, a fairly short one. His horns were freakishly large, twisting outward. He wore a black-and-red suit. Upon closer inspection, Canis had animalistic legs - Zephrite saw through Canis' poorly forged glamour.

Beyond Canis, Zephrite became familiar with the smell of a nearby dog. Zephrite sensed an unholy presence lurking in the shadows.

"Welcome to the Veil," he said, greeting her. "I've been waiting for you."

"Are you the voice I hear?" Zephrite questioned.

Canis nodded. "I called you here to present power to you, and to tell you more about your mother."

An unearthly feeling coursed through Zephrite. Canis took her by the hand briefly.

"I've enhanced your telekinetic abilities," Canis informed her.

Zephrite's ears twitched, the shadows hissing in an indecipherable language. She didn't like the energy that'd emitted from the dark spaces she stood in. She almost didn't mind. The VOICE, Canis, had helped her after all.

"What about my mother?" asked Zephrite.

"Well, I can't tell you much," Canis continued, "but, your mother was a full-blooded demon, as you know. She went to Earth, blending in with the humans - the mortals. She fell in "love" with one. And here you are."

But I already know that. I want to know more. Where has my mother gone?

"Our mother is dead. Remember that?" Ca-troll explained.

Yes, but... where did she go?

"You know, you killed her." Zephrite thought she heard Canis, or a VOICE of sorts saying that, but Canis hadn't spoken. It was more like a distant inner voice, one that was her own.

"I'll tell you more when you're older," Canis finished.

A blackness crashed over Zephrite's vision. She awoke in a daze, a splitting headache accompanying her awakening. Analyzing the environment, her eyes revealed the Earth. She breathed in the Earth-smell, seeing that she'd returned. The dark world known as the Veil was gone.
