How Long?

I had started to walk towards the other side, on the crosswalk of course and whenever the light was red. I have already somewhat died one, I didn't want to actually die again.

Before walking over I had noticed a newspaper box in front of a grocery store.

After reaching the newspaper box I had noticed someone go and put some change in it. It flipped open, I walked towards it and started up a conversation.

"Lovely day we're having isn't it?"

"Sure is." the voice sounded like a girl maybe in her late 20s, tho I wouldn't know as I hadn't interacted with a girl since well...

I held the box up for her to get the paper.

"Thank you kind Sir. It's hard to meet someone like you these days." She said

"No problem, just doing what's right." I said and smiled while doing so.

She started to walk away after grabbing the paper, then before anyone had noticed I had grabbed myself one too. There was almost nobody around, and if there were they were either on their phones or they were too busy getting to wherever they had to be to notice their surroundings.

I started searching for the date and had noticed that it was on the top of the front page. I looked at the year and was astonished, as the year was currently 2019 and that I had only been gone for a year or so.

"Get out the way kid." I heard someone say, as I was standing right next to the box and looking all creepy like.

"Ah, sorry mate." I said while walking away.

"It's going to rain" I muttered under my breath, and about on time it started to rain.

"Shit, what in the hell!" I heard that same person say, I guess that his paper had gotten ruined during the rain.
