C18 watching one watch another

"That's my past, eventually I went to a city, I joined a hunter unit to make ends meet and together we climbed from E rank to S rank, it was then that I felt something pulling me across the desert, something wanted me here... something wanted it here." My eyes cut to the sword, and I pull it from the ground, it stays silent this time, so maybe it'll stay silent for a while longer. "When I got to this land I realized that I could wield the sword without falling to the bloodlust, and after reading many histories I came to find the truth of it. This entire area was blessed by a god once upon a time, she was a god of the light, and her main duty was to combat the demons. I have never found her name but I don't need it, if I need to pray to a god I choose her, since she's helped me so far. The story after I left the desert you all know, I came to the city, got pushed into fighting for a position as The maidens student, and got my SS rank I.D." There are some things I've not mentioned, such as the killers that came after Me, or my natural ability with the spear, but I don't feel those are relevant. Soon after that I push the others into sleeping, I said I would take the first watch, and together with Sera at my side I climb a tree, as I sit there I pull out a notebook from my backpack, and start writing down ideas. They're wild ideas, things that I would change if I could, for example for hunters it would be necessary to find a group of at least three others to join you on all hunts, when you surpass A rank you wouldn't go to S rank, there's still a bit of a leap between true S ranks and someone stronger than A rank after all, you would go to Z rank, then S rank, SS rank, and finally SSS rank. Currently there are five beings with a power level of SSS rank. Celeste is the strongest, Abdura comes in second, and The leaders of the other cities fall in behind them, after them the next strongest being is a bit iffy. I'm SS rank but when I'm under bloodlust I can reach SSS rank, however there is a man stronger than me. The problem is no one has ever seen his true form, he remains swathed under clothes. "The ranking of power. Since I'm on the topic I might as well write it down. Celeste, Ren, Albert, Sierra, And Ave iron are the strongest five, they keep the legendary beasts under wraps. Then comes... number one SS rank would be... Alvana? Maybe Cherokke? Mm, I can beat them but it requires the bloodlust, and since that's an outside power..." I feel the branch move and Sera shifts, trying to get a limb out of her side, I told her not to follow me but she did anyway. The air changes, and I catch a scent that makes Sera's hackles rise, she sits up and looks out into the darkness "calm down, it won't attack us." I ruffle her head and she looks at me, before laying back down "I'm too strong for it, meanwhile, Alvana and Celeste are here as well, it's not stupid, it won't attack us." It worries me that the arbiter is here though. That means that something has happened to change its habitat, and the only thing strong enough to make the arbiter move would be a legendary beast. "Hmm, what do you say Sera, should we change paths? It might get a bit tricky if we have to face down a legend. The Phoenix or ice bear would be fine, hell even the dragon turtle, they all understand human speech and can interact with us. The dragon, tiger, and any others would be unnecessarily annoying." I know the arbiter can hear me, that's why I'm not trying to keep my voice down. The arbiter isn't a single being, they're a group of monsters, such as the worm-worm in the desert, the specialty beast of a place. They are usually the strongest beasts in the area, aside from the legends of course, but the arbiters are those that have reached elderhood, they have all the power they used to but over time they've gained enough experience to make a sting opponent. Arbiter can be used to name any beast that isn't strong enough to be a legend, but is stronger then the normal specialty beast. Soon Sera falls asleep, her head is on my leg and she's struggling to stay balanced but she's managed somehow. I lean back and close my eyes, I could use some rest but tomorrow will be worse, everyone going to be sore tomorrow. Luckily we'll make it to the ruins early the day after, the. It'll be home free after I grab the books. I feel that it won't be that easy though.

The winds blows against me and Sera jumps up, or tries to at least, I clamp my leg over her head and she scrabbles for a second before going silent. The Arbiter came too close, it riled her up. I look over at the sun rising and drop off the limb, I managed to get some sleep, light enough that i could defend us if anything happened but deep enough that I'll be fine for today, Someone else will have to watch tonight though.

"Everyone up, there's an arbiter watching you so if you don't get your asses up they'll be bitten!" I struggle to hold back a yawn and as the other get up the arbiter sneaks away. That's the last I'll see of him tonight at least.
