First Strike

Edith

September 15, 3:12

I exit school with Trent. "I gotta go, see you later babe." He kisses my cheek. "Bye..." I say with a smile. I flatten my black skirt and look over to the confused faces of Miles and Aubrielle. I mean, it isn't every day we get a swarm of news vans outside our school. Josh goes up to them and they all start talking. I walk up to them and say "What are we talking about?" With a delighted tone and smile.

"What else, Edith. That your boyfriend is flirting with five girls over there?" Miles points out.

"No he isn't-" I look over to Trent "Yes he is..." I say, my smile turning into a frown.

"Why are you even with him? He treats you like GARBAGE." Josh says.

"He makes me feel pretty, and loved." I reply.

"But that's not the reason he's with you!" Joshes voice raises a bit.

"Then what is?!" I say.

"Am I interrupting?" I hear Trents charming voice behind me. I hugs me brim behind and I feel warm, loved...

"No, not at all. We were just talking about Jenny Fox's disappearance, she's missing." I mention.

"Yeah, are you ok, Miles?" Aubrielle asks.

"Why?"

"I saw the way you looked at her yesterday. I know you like her." She hugs her books a bit tighter.

"Yeah, and? People come and go... It's not like I'm some sob story waiting to be read." He says, sounding a bit aggregated.

"Harsh..." Trent lies his head on my shoulder, still hugging me close. "If you want to get away from emo over here you can always come with me." Trent says. I let go of him and my positivity went downhill.

"Why do you always flirt with other girls while I'm around?" I ask. He drops his head and his mouth opens, but no words come out. "Avery, can you take me home?" I ask.

"Sure, let's get outta here. I hate talking about that brat Jenny Fox." Avery says a bit harshly.

It was later and someone throws a party so everyone can cheer up. I see Trent and come over to him. "Hey!" I greet with a smile.

"Hey... About what you said," He leans on a pillar with a red solo cup "In gonna stop flirting with girls when you're around." He offers.

"That's very sweet of you," I skip a beat "But you shouldn't be flirting with girls at all."

"But who says I'm flirting? I'm only saying this because you SAY I'm flirting."

"Well I'm your GIRLFRIEND, Trent! How would you feel if I talked to five guys?" My voice raises, but not loud enough that everyone can hear me.

"I'd be fine with it because I TRUST you." He sets the cup down on the ground. I blush and look around. "Hey, let's get out of here." I take his hand.

"Ok, let me just do one more thing." He smiles.

"I'll be in the car." I smile.

. . .

We settle down at his place which is a normal two story house. We head up stairs to his room to hang out. "Where's your parents?" I ask, Sitting on the left side edge of his bed.

"They're working on something in the basement I think, trying to build something." He replies, rubbing the back of his neck.

"That sounds fun. Do you know what else is?" I ask.

"What?" He smirks, sitting next to me.

"This." I kiss him.

Aubrielle

I go up to Josh and Miles at a party with a napkin note Trent gave me. I mean, he's cute, but I don't know if he's the one. "Hey, what do you guys think about Trent?" I ask.

"Why?" Miles turns to me.

"He gave me this." I hand them a note saying:

Meet me at the River Forest tomorrow morning.

"Hah" Miles says.

"What's so funny?" I ask.

"Trent and Edith are dating. They have been for a while." Josh answers.

"I actually never knew that much. I saw them make out but I thought it was a one time thing." I explain. "You know what, I'm just going to give it to him straight." I say.

"Say it to him there, in person is better." Miles suggests. "I'm going to go now, bye losers." Miles takes a few steps to the door.

"Wait! I need a ride." I remind him since he's my ride everywhere that isn't walking distance.

"Then come with me." He says.

"Ok..." I follow him out.

. . .

I go into the River Forest after ten minutes of navigating, and meet Trent. "Look, it's very sweet but I know you and Edith are a thing. I'd hate to ruin that." I confess, looking down at my cowgirl-like boots. I wore a white dress with a pink floral design since it's a hot day for once.

"Well who says I'm with Edith?" He takes a step forward.

"Josh and Trent told me, ok?"

"Edith is delusional. This is a free country, and so am I. And I'm waiting for you to explore." He gets closer.

"Goodbye, Trent." I say, leaving on my way to school. School is in walking distance from my home and here at the River Forest. The whole time I felt like someone was watching...
