"The king cannot pressure the nobles to teach the soldiers, because the king needs the nobles to send the knights of the kingdom to war, everyone knows that the knights are the main force of attack in a war."
"I hadn't thought of that, but you're right."
"But that could change someday, I heard Captain Max saying about some rumors about weapons made of gunpowder, I don't know how they are made or if they are too expensive, but it seems that with these weapons the most skilled knights can easily die."
Jack was surprised by this, he thought the knights were the strongest with their skills using the sword, only the other very skilled knights or archers could have a chance to kill the knights.
But if a gun made of gunpowder really existed, wars could change and the status of knights would drop a lot, but Jack believed that it must be very expensive and very difficult to make, like the weapons that only the best blacksmiths could make.
"Don't worry about it Jack, we guards and soldiers don't have to worry about it, only the king and the knights have to worry about it."
Paul and Jack continued talking about various things and looked at many places in the capital, Jack also noticed that he could buy many things with his soldier's salary, he heard some soldiers complaining that they earned little and couldn't understand and asked Paul.
"Hahaha, it's normal that you don't understand this, Jack, the soldiers who complain about this have their families to support, this is a great salary for people who live alone like us, but for soldiers who have a wife and children this money is little."
Jack never quite understood this, the village money was not that important because he and the other hunters could get food and some people in the village had plantations and livestock to feed the village.
In addition, his father made a lot of money because he was the best blacksmith in all the villages, Jack also made a lot of money in recent years as he was a good hunter, but he used his money only a few times.
But in the capital he needed money for everything, to eat, to have a place to live and for clothes too, luckily his salary could pay for all this, and so Jack started to understand how much money his father had left for him in the chests.
Tim had left Jack enough money to be worth Jack's current salary for many years, with Jack's skill as a blacksmith he would never have to worry about money in his life even living in the capital.
Of course, Jack could not live a normal life while Jan Stokes was still alive, after all, he might want to open a store and a workshop in the capital with the money he had and Jan could try to kill him for thinking that Jack was related to Tim.
Jake bought a few different things to eat that he had never seen before and liked the spiced meats and fried things using the wheat, Jack liked some sweets too, but he tried some things just though Paul insisted that he buy more.
The soldiers who lived in the defense tower were not very comfortable sleeping in straw beds, but they had food and a place to live was given by the kingdom, Jack who had to sleep several times in the forest and in prison did not care about that.
After getting to know a part of the capital, Jack said he thought it was best that they go back to the defense tower, Paul wanted to show Jack more of the city, but he realized it was getting late and brought Jack back.
Captain Max was warned as soon as Jack returned to the defense tower and Max was happy to hear that, he had suspected that Paul tried to help Jack many times even though they hadn't met before, so this time he wanted to know if Paul could help Jack fleeing the capital.
But it seemed like he was thinking too much about things when he saw Jack coming back before nightfall, what Max really wanted Jack to do was go to the Royal Road and help soldiers with security against wild animals.
Even though more than 1 year has passed since the king had the trees cut down and started to build the defense tower, the forest remained different from the more aggressive wild animals.
Because of the good work of Jack and the other hunters, the animals instinctively realized that the village region was dangerous for them, so the animals began to attack soldiers on the Royal Road more often.
Many soldiers died of wild animal attacks on the Royal road that year, and only someone experienced like Jack could help prevent animal attacks and the Royal Road would be safe again.
But in order for Max to be able to send Jack to the Royal Road, he had to make sure he could trust Jack and that he would not try to escape into the forest as soon as he had the chance if a hunter like Jack escaped into the forest the soldiers would never find.
Jack became more relaxed after visiting the capital, he was depressed since his father died, even though he was out hunting it was not a time when he could really relax in the forest.
So hanging out with Paul after spending several months in prison was good because Jack knew he could relax, he would never forget that he had to kill Jan to get revenge for his father's death, but he had to wait a few years before he could do that.
A few days passed and Jack didn't go out with Paul to the capital again, Jack was sensitive and could see that the other soldiers and guards were suspicious if they met before he became a prisoner.
Jack did not want to involve Paul too much in his problems because Jack could see how the other soldiers and guards respected Paul a lot, even Captain Max had great respect for him who spent his entire life as the guard of the capital.
So one day when Jack had finished training someone came to talk to him, it was Aaron who was the soldier who helped Jack out of prison saying that he had actually met him with Ron when Aaron wasn't sure about that.
