As only 20 soldiers volunteered to go to the forest with Jack, he needed to speak to Robert to choose 40 more soldiers, he decided to take 60 soldiers into the forest for this hunt.
Jack decided to do this because he did not know the ability of all soldiers to fight wild animals, in addition, Jack knew that with such a large group the wolves would avoid the place where they were.
Many animals were not afraid of a large group of people, but wolves rarely attacked when their targets had more people than there were wolves in their pack, the only thing Jack was afraid of in the forest after having experience was wolves.
With a group of 60 people without having to worry about food since Captain Max had already sent more food because he had asked, it was much better to be able to avoid the wolves in the forest.
If Jack's group found a group of hyenas, a group of lions, or a bear he was confident he could kill these animals while the soldiers defended themselves, so Jack had decided to do so.
He, of course, had already talked about it with Robert who trusted Max's decision to choose him and therefore believed that Jack knew what he was doing, Jack asked Robert for 2 of the wagons that he had in the building they lived in.
Robert did not understand why Jack was asking for this since there were no horses on the Royal Road, but Jack said it would be the soldiers who would take the carts, so Robert agreed to lend the carts to Jack's group.
Jack knew after hunting with the village hunters that the worst thing about walking in the forest was having to carry weapons, food and other equipment, it was much better to leave everything on the carts and the soldiers to push the carts.
So whoever was pushing the cart would not have to fight and the others would only need to walk with the sword and armor to be ready to fight when necessary, but Jack said none of this to Robert that he had already accepted.
After that Jack was talking to Robert who would be good soldiers so that he could take him to the forest, he could not be someone who did not respect the orders and had to be a skilled soldier to help everyone.
Robert did not know the soldiers so well because these soldiers normally did not stay on the Royal Road for many months, so he had to choose more soldiers who had been on the Royal Road for more than 3 months and other soldiers he knew were skilled.
So after a while, Jack had a list of 60 names that were approved by Robert, Jack told all the soldiers who were in the building who the soldiers were who were chosen and the chosen soldiers were disappointed with that.
Jack had to say that it was Robert who had helped him choose the soldiers and so they would have no one to complain about being chosen, some envious soldiers were also chosen for this group and were even more unhappy about it.
So the other day very early Jack and other soldiers packed up the things they would have to take on the hunt for the forest, weapons, armor, food, leather, and cloths to make the soldiers' tents and makeshift beds.
After everything was fixed, Jack didn't hesitate any longer and entered the forest with the group of 60 soldiers who were going with him, some soldiers were pushing the 2 wagons in the background, the soldiers who volunteered went ahead with Jack and the other chosen ones followed.
Jack was not naive and learned many things from Ron in the village, he knew he had to leave the people who were willing to help beside him, after all, Jack did not know any of the 60 soldiers who would go to the forest with him.
This was very dangerous because it could cause the death of him and the other soldiers as well, so Jack wanted to be close to the soldiers who were willing to help and so Jack thought he could count on their help.
Jack had already analyzed where the Royal road was and so he could return to that place even if he was very deep on the road, Jack knew that taking the carts would hinder them in this hunt because of the lack of mobility.
But Jack learned from the last hunt he did that when he didn't have a specific place to go no matter which way he chose, Jack and the soldiers just had to kill the wild animals, but they didn't know where they had to go.
So it was better to take the carts so they wouldn't always have to carry their stuff and they would get more tired, so he just had to find a path in the forest where the carts could pass.
The truth was that even though Robert didn't know where their group could find the animals, Jack knew that if he could find a river he would have an easier time finding the wild animals that needed water to survive.
After a few hours of walking in the forest, Jack had already found some medicinal plants that could help to heal injuries and illnesses and he had also found fruit for the hunters.
He found several rabbits, deer, and other animals that he could hunt, but this time they had enough food for all the soldiers to spend up to a month in the forest, so he would not hunt animals that could not endanger them.
After finding so many things in the forest some soldiers who doubted whether Jack could walk in the forest no longer doubted it when they were already far from the Royal Road Jack realized that they would find the first wild animal.
It was a group of lionesses that seemed to be looking for food, unlike the first time Jack saw the lions, these lionesses did not seem to be hungry and seemed to have adapted well to life in the forest.
It was a group of 4 lionesses and the soldiers did not know how to walk in silence in the forest, so it was a matter of time for them to be discovered, Jack taught some basic signs for soldiers to communicate silently in the forest.
With some hand signals, he told the soldiers to stop walking, be silent and prepare to fight, so the soldiers who were close to him passed these signs on to the other soldiers who were forced to learn these signs and knew what it meant.
