Returning to the Capital 2

"Your mission will be canceled for a few weeks, Jack, I wanted to ask this after your mission, but I decided to give you a reward for your work on the Royal Road, I will let you decide what your reward will be."

"I didn't think of any reward, Captain, but you could give the soldiers who were in my group a few weeks of rest during the hunts in the forest, they did a great job and deserve to be rewarded too."

"Okay, if that's what you want, I'll give you a month's rest and all the soldiers who took part in the forest hunts, you'll only be called if our kingdom has to go to war."

Max was very happy with Jack's generosity in wanting to share his reward with the other soldiers who were on the hunt with him, Captain Max thought that was one of the characteristics that every good leader had to have.

The next day all the soldiers who participated in the hunt received the news that they would have 1 month of rest for having participated in the hunts in the forest, Captain Max said in that message that it was Jack who had asked for this for them.

All the soldiers were tense with this possible war and this news made them very happy, especially the soldiers who had family, they liked to know that they could spend 1 month with their family before the war happened.

They were also grateful to Jack who managed to make this happen to them, they already respected Jack and thought he was a good leader, now they liked him even more, Jack was not as relaxed as the other soldiers.

Jack did not need that month of rest and was more concerned with the war that could happen, he believed that the men who were captured were really spies, but he thought that if the neighboring kingdom really wanted to attack they could send the army.

Along with the territory of the kingdom of Andaria, they had two kingdoms that were much larger and had a stronger army, there was the kingdom of Batti that was much larger than the kingdom of Andaria and had the support of the church of light.

The church of light was one of the religions that had the most faithful on the continent, in this world where it was normal not to believe in any god, the church of light created an idea saying that it was the God of the Sun who delivered the light that allowed everyone to live.

As everyone could see the sun every day, this religion managed to deceive both the nobles and the poorest citizens and gained a lot of wealth and power on the continent, even if the kingdom of Batti was not the kingdom where the church was located, it still had great support from the church.

The other kingdom that was next to the kingdom of Andaria was the kingdom of Viggo, that kingdom was next to the sea so it was very rich because it dominated most of the trade routes by sea from the continent, that kingdom also had a very strong navy that it was second only to the navy of the largest kingdoms that were close to the sea.

The kingdom that was threatening to attack the kingdom of Andaria was the kingdom of Batti, this was because they knew they had the military strength to attack the kingdom of Andaria and also because they wanted to use the territory of the kingdom of Andaria to attack the kingdom of Viggo.

The kingdom of Viggo also thought of attacking the kingdom of Andaria before, but they feared the kingdom of Batti and so they gave up attacking the kingdom of Andaria, they hoped that the army of the kingdom of Andaria would resist the invasion of the kingdom of Batti and then the Batti kingdom did not have the strength to attack them.

Of course, even though these kingdoms were bigger, they knew that they would lose many soldiers trying to attack the kingdom of Andaria because everyone knew that forests were natural protection for the kingdom of Andaria.

Jack knew that if this war happened he would have to actively fight and try to stand out in that war, just so that he could gain a better position in the army to have a chance to kill Jan Stokes.

Jack did not believe that the Batti kingdom wanted a war now and so he sent ordinary spies to the kingdom of Andaria, if they really wanted to attack they would have attacked with their full army and caught Andaria's kingdom by surprise.

The only chance for a war to happen was if King Ricardo decided to attack the Batti kingdom because they sent the spies and everyone knew that this was impossible to happen, then 2 months passed and nothing happened.

The captured spies were interrogated, but they had no important information about the Batti kingdom and were executed, in those months the Batti kingdom did not attack and Captain Max knew that this was not the time the war would take place.

Jack and the other soldiers took good advantage of the rest that Captain Max gave and had already returned to work in the army, as nothing had happened Max decided that the army should leave the capital and return to do the missions and he called Jack.

"Jack, I decided that now is the time for you to lead the soldiers to do the mission I told you about a few months ago, are you ready?"

"Yes, captain, I am prepared to do this mission."

"Very well, I chose the 100 soldiers that I promised I would recommend to you, the soldiers that are in the last positions are the soldiers that are not so skilled and you can exchange them for the soldiers that you wanted to nominate for this mission."

Jack received the list from Captain Max and saw that he did not know most of the soldiers, Jack hoped for that and took out a list with 20 soldiers that he had already chosen for this mission, among those soldiers that he chose were his friends Alex, Peter, Aaron, and also the best soldiers who were with him on the Royal road.

Max was surprised by Jack's intelligence of having already prepared a list of the soldiers he wanted to take with him to the forest, Max looked at the list and saw that there were several soldiers that he also considered good and Max knew that they were in the group Jack on the hunt.

"Okay, Jack, I approve of these 20 soldiers you chose, you can replace the last 20 soldiers on the list that I gave you with these soldiers, I will summon the soldiers to the mission to start in 3 days, get ready by then."
