A Very Difficult Mission 9

Jack and the other soldiers heard everything the thief said and they could see that the thief was not lying, this was important because they now had more information before facing the thieves.

"Now you have one last mission, you are going to have to take us to a place near the thieves 'base after we find the thieves' base we will return here."

"Okay, I'll take you there."

Jack chose 10 soldiers to go with him to the thieves' base, among the 10 soldiers he chose had his 3 friends who were also leaders in this group, Jack decided to take fewer soldiers so as not to risk them being captured.

Jack gagged the thief not to risk him screaming for help and tied the thief's two hands using one of the ropes he had, Jack didn't pull the thief or hurt him and just let the thief guide their group.

They walked for a few hours with Jack careful not to fall into a trap, finally, they could see the base of the thieves that they will be looking for so much in the last days, Jack can see that the walls were high and were almost 5 meters which left almost impossible to invade.

The walls were made of earth and wood because the thieves were unable to make a stone wall and well made as the capital was, the gates were also made of very good wood and Jack realized that it would be difficult to break these gates even with war weapons.

Jack realized that at the thieves 'base they also had lookouts and had some archers, it was impossible for them to break into the thieves' base to kill them, so Jack really had to think of some other plan to kill the thieves.

Jack thought for a long time and decided to return with the thief and the soldiers where they had prepared the camp, it was dangerous for them if they were seen by the thieves, Jack had to think of a way to get the thieves out of their base.

After a few hours they returned to the camp and Jack went to tie up the thief because he still had to talk to him, Jack needed to know more things now that he had already started to create a plan to win this war.

"Do you have a lot of food on your basis?"

"I don't know very well, but I don't think anyone is missing food, it's been a few weeks since Hector forbade thieves to go hunting, but some thieves can still go out like me and my friend did today."

"At the base, there are some crops and there we also grow our own food, we always prepare meat for emergencies, so I think there are no food problems at the base."

"And how does the water you drink work? Is there a river near your base where you get water?"

"We have a few wells of water at our base, in fact, it looks like the location of the base has been decided because many wells have been found, so the thieves knew there would be at least no shortage of water."

After asking these questions Jack realized that he had no more things to ask this thief, so he started to think about what he would do with this thief, he could not free him and the thief really helped them a lot on this mission.

"Very well, you told the truth and told everything I wanted to know, now you have two choices, I can kill you here right now quickly and without you feeling a lot of pain."

"Or I can leave you tied to a tree without food in a very hidden place, if you decide to do that then you will have to hope that our group can kill all the thieves, because only then can I come back to release you."

"But you know that a fight like this can take several days, besides, I will take you back to the capital if our group wins and you will probably be executed in the capital after spending time in prison."

"Those are the only two options you have, you can die quickly and painlessly, or you can try to suffer to have a small chance of surviving."

The thief expected Jack to simply kill him after knowing what he wanted as Jack had not promised anything, but the thief was pleased to know that he at least had a choice before he died.

Jack tied the thief to a tree using the skills he had learned as a hunter, the thief could not cut the rope with anything and even if someone showed up to help, they could not free him by untying the rope.

Jack admired the courage of the thief for choosing to survive even knowing that he was almost certain to die, if Jack could he would talk about the help that thief gave to the mission so that Captain Max would not decide to hang him.

Jack started to think of plans that he could use to face the thieves, his goal was to make the thieves have to leave their base, just so they could have a fight without risking the lives of the soldiers in his group.

Jack spent a lot of time thinking, but only one plan really seemed possible to him, that plan was to poison the wells that the thieves' base had, of course, Jack would not be able to create a poison that would kill all the thieves at the base.

After all, he wouldn't be able to enter the thieves' base to put the poison in the wells, so he was thinking of using his bow to shoot arrows with poison into the wells, the poison would be diluted in the well water and he couldn't kill the thieves.

Jack was happy that this happened because he did not plan to kill all the thieves, even because within the thieves' base there were also women and children who were the family of the thieves, there were women who became thieves too, but some just came to the mountain to accompany her husband who was a thief.

So Jack wanted to poison the well in a way that left the thieves only weak and sick until they realized that the problem was the water in the well, after that they would have to leave the base to get more water.

It was at that time that Jack intended to attack the weakest thieves with his army, without water the thieves would last less than was necessary for the food that the soldiers had to finish.
