I jumped at the sound of the door opening. I turned to see a man and a woman standing at the door. I hopped down from the old bucket that I used as a step stood and walked toward them. What did they want now? Maybe they would put me out of my misery. The woman gave a small shriek and backed away. The man stood his ground and just stared at me. I squinted through my long, tangled hair. They didn't look familiar at all. What was going on? The woman cleared her throat.
"H-hello. Are you able to understand me?" Was she daft? I cleared my throat. Hopefully my vocal cords still worked.
"Y-yes." I said my voice was dry and raspy. She jumped and looked at the man.
"Are you sure about this? We could always..." He held up a hand to stop her.
"No. I want this one." She looked between us and lifted a electronic tool. Maybe a surface computer? I was standing near enough to them that I could tell that I wasn't even close to being as tall as they were. My 5' 2'' was no match for their individual 5'11' and 6' 4''. He gestured toward the corridor beyond the door. "Come with me."

It was shorter than I was by about a foot or more. It had long, matted, black hair. There was no way to see its face. Its ears were barely visible, although they were on top of its head. It's tail was shorter than most of its kind, it hung almost half way to its knees. Its skin was pale white, showing how long it had been since it had last seen light. You could say that I bought this P.E.T. out of pity, that would be partially true, but another part would be that there was some kind of aura around them that was... appealing. There was even more silence than before, if that was even possible.
The ride up in the elevator seemed to be even worse as we were all in a 6 inch radius of each other. When we reached the top all of the baby P.E.T.s were silent and unmoving. Watching us and trembling slightly. I looked down at my P.E.T. it hugged itself tightly and only looked forward. It stayed next to me the entire money transaction. The receptionist still seemed uneasy and didn't look away from it for longer than two seconds.
"Have a good day." She said. Her voice was shaking. I nodded at her and walked out, my P.E.T. followed me dutifully.

I didn't know that they changed the old lab into a P.E.T. shop. It was horrible seeing them. They didn't even know who I was and they were terrified. I looked at the man who had just paid over $150 on me. He was tall, as I had said before. He was lean, but muscularly built. He had light grey eyes and blond hair. Like any normal girl, I thought he was rather... handsome. I shook my head. I needed to stay on task. Maybe I could somehow use him to my advantage.
We walked toward a black, car-like vehicle. He opened the back door and gestured for me to climb in. I looked in to see a slightly older woman dozing. She might have been his sister by the looks of her. He climbed into the drivers seat and turned on the vehicle. The woman woke with a start.
"Sorry mother. I didn't mean to wake you." So it was his mother. She must have had him when she was young. He looked at us through the mirror.
"It's alright Tyrell." She yawned. She looked over at me and screamed. "TYRELL, WHAT IS THAT THING!" That was slightly rude.
"That is my P.E.T. mother. I would hope that you would keep it down. People might think that you were having a heart attack or being attacked." Tyrell laughed. His mother sat up and scooted away from me slightly.
"Would you mind driving me home? I feel awfully drowsey still." She yawned yet again.
"Of course mother."
