Chapter Sixteen

~ Adaria

I stared at the screen in shock. This wasn't real, right? It couldn't be. I looked deeper into the file. Reason for demolition: no population and no important resources. I slammed my fist on the desk. Why? Why did he do this? He took away our humanity and our lives. What more could he do now that our world was gone? I clasped my hands together and rested my forehead against them. What was the point anymore? Tears clouded my vision. I heard the door open and glanced up, Tyrell was at the door. The right side of his face was red. I stood.

"What happened?" I asked as I hurried over to him. I gingerly touched his face.

"Just a disagreement." He replied. He grabbed my face. "What happened to you?" I looked over at his desk.

"I know I should have asked first, but I found some information while I was waiting for you." He walked over and looked at the screen.

"Earth... is gone?" He turned to me. "H-I'm so sorry." He hugged me.

"It's not your fault." I didn't move.

She didn't even look at me. No, it wasn't my fault, it was my father's. Not only had he enslaved a whole world, but destroyed it as well. I rubbed her head. How do you comfort someone who has lost so much? She finally pulled away.

"Did you find the tablet?" She asked.

"Yes, but the person who had it... broke it. So, we're just going to have to make do with out it for a few hours." She looked at me.

"Just a few hours?" She seemed surprised.

"Yeah, and then we have to wait to download the memory into it."

"How did it break?"

"Um... well.... this former employee took it because she thought that I would need a secretary, and when she found out about you she became angry and smashed the tablet.... and my face."

"Please tell me you fired her." I laughed.

"Of course I did."

"Good. It would be troublesome for me if you didn't. I mean first it was that guy and then that woman. How many other people want you affections?" She was joking, it was obvious, but the way she said it... I patted her on the head.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you." She gave me a side ways smile.

"Don't forget that I am a trained assassin. I hope that protection is from the law."

What was going on with me? Yes I liked him, but this was going to hinder everything if it continued. Plus the way he treated me, it was obvious he thought of me more as a friend or even a younger sister. I shouldn't let my feelings get in the way of our work. I stepped away from him.

"So, how should we being?" He was quiet as he thought.

"If you keep me in my schedule, then you should be fine finding information." He was silent a moment longer. "I'm going to tell my parents about us." I froze.

"What! Are you crazy? We both could be killed!"

"Oh, no I didn't mean it like that. I meant that I was going to tell my parents that my P.E.T. died and I happened to meet a wonderful young women." He looked up at me. "How good are you at undercover missions?" I smiled.

"I'll need to dye my hair. You're father would recognize me immediately."
