Problem Almost Solved

He got to his office and sat down at his seat behind the desk while flipping through pages and pages of people assigned by his significant other to work at the castle.

With the task to find a head butler or maid, suitable and trustworthy while being humble and not selfish. With many candidates to choose, he needed to make a hard decision.

He would need to find a person liked by the others but also doing great at their work. Not some random person who looked the most suitable.

But then, it would be hard to do so with only basic information about the people already working in the castle in the document which now at his hand and have his attention.

'There would be 2 ways of getting information, either I interview them or I gather the information secretly' he thought to himself before thinking about it again.

'Screw it, might as well do both' he thinks about it before realizing he hasn't solved the problems he needs to solve at the first place.

"Well, for my sister… put her at a vacant bedroom will do. As for Maverick, my young page… well, he as a future knight would need to know how is the feeling of being a normal soldier, the barrack with other soldiers it is," he contemplates but managed to find the best solution.

Some knight may say his decision for his own page or squire soon would be a foolish decision. But he thought the other way.

This would be one of the tests to check his mind, is he a humble and righteous knight or a selfish human with the thought of a devil at his mind?

"Time to call a random butler or maid to prepare the space and also visiting the barrack and told them about it," He stood up from his seat and began making his way to open the door.

As he began to open the door, he could hear the sound of a man startled and panicking. Once the door is fully opened, he could see the person with his eye closed and bowing to him.

The person probably at his late 20 and early 30, with the brownie black hair, can be seen once he straightens himself up.

"Do you need anything?" Arden asks confused about this person standing right at the front of his office's door as he closes the door leading to his office.

"I'm sorry my lord, I'm only a butler, please forgive me for standing in front of your office like a creep," Arden chuckled lightly as the person that claimed he is a butler began turning white.

"Yea yea, not a problem to me, you haven't answered my question though" his face turned to a serious face in a matter of seconds.

"Uh yeah, there is one thought that came into my mind, about the guest, will they be staying here?" he began calming down and his face started turning to normal colour from the white colour.

"Yes, they will be staying here for a long time" the butler's face showed that he will suggest something, and it turned out to be true.

"Excellent! We need to prepare rooms for them, let me discuss with others about this" he began turning his back to Arden and leaving the scene before getting stopped.

"Um, let's discuss more about this inside my office" Arden opened the door and making his way to his seat. Behind him could be heard the footsteps of the butler following him.

The butler closed the door and stood in front of him straight and nervously trying to not make eye contacts. Arden giggled before saying…

"First, for the guest, I have already made up in my mind, for the adult men which is 16 people in total, we need 4 bedrooms, at least half the size of my own bedroom and each bedroom would be occupied by 4 people each," the butler nod lightly before asking.

"How about the lady and the young lord" He chuckled hearing his own soon to be squire called a young lord.

"That lady is my sister and that young boy is the first squire of mine, for that lady, give her a good room and for that young boy, I will take care of it, now you are free to go," the butler stood confused for a second before leaving the room.

Arden now just stared at the wall and contemplate about that butler, he would be the first candidate to be a head butler.

'He seems to care about this castle very much, I would need to meet him again... Crap, I didn't even ask for his name!' he slammed his hand on the table lightly.

He would need to meet that butler again, but he didn't even ask for a name. Even though he remembered that butler's face, he would need to search every corner of the castle.

The document containing information about people that works at the castle didn't display any portrait or photo about the people what so ever.

'Let's think about that later, I will ask about him to my wife' he stood up and began making his way to the door.

He left his office and walk down the hall of the castle quietly, with the sound of birds chirping and the afternoon sunlight coming through the windows.

Calming his mind and relaxed his body as he makes his way to the barrack to talk about it with his commander.

He reached the entrance of the barrack and began opening the door. Expecting the crowd of soldiers doing their business just to find there is barely anyone there.

He realized that at this time of the day; the soldiers were at the yard, training and sparring with each other to train their fighting skill.

So he changed his destination and began making his way to the open field which is used as the training yard for the soldiers.

There he could see the progress of his soldiers, far from the point they had started as farmer armed with spear, sword and shield to go to battle as militia or some might say cannon fodder.

Now they spar each other like an infantry, with each other skill, the fight could last 10 minutes or even 15 minutes before their partner simply lose or got changed.

Now… to gain their attention, Arden walked to the nearest elevated ground and shouted "Attention!!" to his troop.

Which they heard as a sign for battle or to stand by for orders from their commander. In a mere minute, the soldiers were lined up in a formation.

The horsemen quickly came to the scene and got off their horse and lined up with their own horse beside them on a lease which is at their control.

Now… that he got all the attention of the troops, he needs to say a thing. Which he forgot what thing he was going to say in front of so many people.

Nervously he shouted loudly that could be heard from the end of the line of the soldiers.

"Commander of each kind of troops, step forward!" the soldiers began chattering to each other, and many gave a confused look to him. Arden is as confused as the soldiers, but a random person raised his hand.

"Sir, you never appointed any of us to become a commander" Arden quickly realized his mistake and becoming more nervous.

"Well, let's appoint one then! Did anyone want to become a commander? We would need 1 from the archers, 1 from the Acropolos and 1 from the infantryman!" To his surprise…

Everyone raised their hands almost immediately, but some minutes after his own soldiers looking at each other, many backs down realizing they can't compete with a certain person.

More and more back down as time passes, in 15 minutes of him waiting for them to see who would back down and who won't.

Only some remain after that 15 minutes, 3 people remain from the archers, 2 from the Acropolos or the cavalry and 5 from the infantryman.

The only way to prove their capability were to fight each other. Because of that, Arden created a type of test with only 5 minutes of time.

The test is… each of them will choose 4 other people to join them on the test and will fight other groups of people. The original person of the group that won would become the commander.

This would test their connection with the army, their leadership which would make teamwork and also their fighting capability.

He waited and waited for them to gather their friends and then appointed some judge to judge the test. The one that had proven trustworthy to him.

While the cold and blueish black sky of the night is approaching fast, the test would happen at the very same time as other and it's a free-for-all type, meaning if there are 5 groups, it would be a 1v1v1v1v1.

With their own arena or some clear space for them to fight each other. In the end, the judge would present the result to Arden.

He could see what happened to the group at the test by visiting them if he wanted or simply stare at the dirt, which is unlikely to happen for Arden.
