Chapter 13.1

Although this wasn't the arrangement they had, she couldn't help but give in when she heard that he had some last-minute work to do.

Raising the window and grabbing her purse, she had Bob lead the way. Every step she took towards his empire felt so heavy. On one hand, she couldn't wait to see him and be in his embrace. On the other hand, she worried about what his employees would think about her when they found out she was their boss's girlfriend.

She felt like a monkey on display as they went through the door and headed towards the elevator. She had a little expectation that maybe, just maybe, Jeff would have his own exclusive elevator like those CEOs in her online novels. That hope was dashed when other people got in the elevator with her and Bob.

It wasn't until she saw Jeff that her nervousness dispelled. So, she didn't hesitate to find shelter in his arms when he came closer.

"Do you still have a lot to do?" she asked in a tiny voice.

"Not at all. Just 3 more documents to go through. It will be quick," he replied back.

He did not rush to get back to work. They hugged for a while before he resumed work. The secretary brought in some snacks for her as he finished going through his documents. It didn't take long before they headed out for dinner.

She was satisfied when she knew he didn't bring his car to work. She was willing to be his driver for today. He also took the lead, and this time she wanted to do the same. Just as she was prepared to start the car, a melodic voice drifted into her ears.

"Jay, is that you?"

At first, she was confused when she saw Jeff stiffen up.

'Jay? As in Jeff?' she thought. Even back at home, his family called him Jeff. How close was he to the owner of the voice that she got to call him 'Jay'? Tina couldn't help but wonder.

She watched as Jeff, who already had one foot in the car, stepped out and walked towards the person standing behind the car.

'Should I go out? Should I not?'

'Seems like it's a girl. I think it would make sense to go out only if Jeff introduces me.'

'I can't make a fool of myself by showing my face first, then Jeff tells her I'm just a friend.'

'Since he asked me out, he wouldn't still be attached to an ex-girlfriend, right?'

Tina was debating with herself on whether or not she wanted to show her face. Out of all of her self-argument, she failed to remember that Jeff, just like her, had never been in a relationship, so obviously there would be no ex.

Since there'd be no ex, there was no reason for Jeff to introduce her as just a friend unless he was ashamed of her. As Jeff schemed to have her come to his office just to show her off, that action negated the point that Jeff was afraid to be seen with her.

Not surprising. The IQ of a woman in love was questionable.

As she was deep in thought, she heard someone knock on her window. She was shocked to see a very beautiful woman standing out there. She hurriedly lowered the window and looked curiously at the woman.

"She's so beautiful, Jay," she heard the woman say to Jeff as she looked away from Tina.

Clearing up the confusion, the woman once again landed her gaze on Tina.

"Hi, I'm Giselle Strider. Jeff's cousin. Granny has said so much about you. Thank you for removing Jeff from the Abyss of singlehood." Giselle smiled at Tina.

Tina loved beautiful people, so she was left speechless when Giselle flashed her a toothy smile. Good looks definitely ran deep in Jeff's family.

She hurriedly got out of the car and extended her hand for a handshake.

"Hi, I'm Tina Lawrence. Jefferson's girlfriend."

Giselle was stunned for a bit before bypassing Tina's handshake and giving her a hug. She laughed heartily and Tina could feel the tremors of her laughter.

"She called you Jefferson. She's definitely a keeper." Giselle released Tina from the hug with a huge grin on her face.

"Nice to meet you. I hope to see you soon at family get-togethers," Giselle spoke up again.

Tina blushed a bit. Family get-togethers weren't on her agendas now. She just wanted to focus on dating. Everyone in the Strider family seem to want her to jump into marriage immediately.

To avoid the pressure Giselle put on Tina, Jeff spoke up.

"What are you doing here?"

"I had a meeting nearby, so I stopped to say hi. Your back looked familiar but not the car, so I called out to you. Now that I've seen you and sis-in-law, I'll take my leave."

She bid goodbye to Tina and waved before her car departed. Seeing that she left, Tina breathe a sigh of relief. Just when she thought it was all over after meeting the immediate family, the extended family members started to pop out. Dating was really tiring.

She looked at Jeff face that carried an apologetic smile and she drove that thought away.

Dating was tiring, but dating Jeff was wonderful.

"You look like you met the devil," she teased as she saw him take a huge breath.

"Because I did. Giselle is the devil," he whispered carefully.

She shook her head and found what Jeff said hard to believe. Such a beautiful woman would be an angel.

After talking about Giselle for a while, the couple finally set off on their romantic date.
