It was definitely wonderful when something you wanted to happen actually occurred!
Yang Yi could not resist standing up as a rush of excitement flooded his body. He immediately realized that his reaction to the news was unrefined, but John had already stood up while he was wondering if he should sit back down.
"I am going to meet the agent to discuss the details of the mission. Where are you staying?"
"At a hotel."
"Go rent a house. Make sure it is nearby. It will make it easier for you to get to work. Do you need financial assistance?
"There is no need for that, thanks anyway."
"You should try to take care of this matter today. It might still take some time before you find a suitable house; you can stay at my house until then. My core team will assemble at my house today. It will be a good time for you to meet them."
"Okay."
John looked at his watch and nodded, "That is all. Other than that you just have to wait for my phone call."
Yang Yi and John left the office at the same time. John went to meet his agent. Yang Yi started searching for a suitable house to rent.
First, Yang Yi searched for a real estate agency since renting a house was not easy. Yang Yi explained his requirements and the agent took him to view some houses. They were preparing to view the second house when John contacted him.
Yang Yi informed John of his location and waited. A silver car, almost closer to gray, stopped in front of him a while later. Yang Yi had not known what kind of car John drove, but now he knew John drove a worn-out Ford sedan.
Yang Yi opened the car door and climbed into the car. John smiled at him and asked, "Did you find a house?"
"Not yet. I had just started viewing when you called."
"No worries. You can stay at my house for the next few days; you can resume your search after we complete the mission."
"You accepted the mission?"
"Yes."
Yang Yi's mood naturally improved since John's mood was good.
It did not take long for them to arrive at John's house. It was a timeworn London townhouse probably built between the years 1930 and 1950.
In the past, it would have just been a common house. A house like this was a symbol of power in this day and age. London real estate was expensive. Plus, the location of the house was great.
John closed the door after Yang Yi entered and casually said, "There are empty rooms upstairs where you can stay. Please remember to keep it relatively quiet at night. You can go up and put your stuff away. I need to make a few phone calls."
John poured himself a glass of whiskey. He turned to Yang Yi and asked, "Would you like one?"
"Thank you, but I do not drink alcohol. Can I use the washroom?"
"Of course. It is upstairs on the right."
Yang Yi thanked John and rushed up the stairs.
The house was old, but it was tastefully decorated and furnished. Thick carpet covered the stairs and paintings hung on the wall. Yang Yi could not properly appreciate any of it due to his current urgent need for the washroom.
Yang Yi placed his luggage by the entrance and opened the door.
He was startled upon opening the door and seeing there was someone already inside.
It was a woman. She had just stood up from the toilet and did not even have time to pull up her pants.
Yang Yi's brain buzzed as shock set in. He stared stupidly for a moment before his gaze drifted upward to her face and met the ponytailed woman's shocked expression. Only then did he realize he should turn around.
In an instant—before Yang Yi could turn around and close the door—there was a punch aimed squarely at his face.
A black eye started to surface soon after. Yang Yi could not even avoid the hard blow to his stomach that came after. The pain made him curl up and fall back. The woman's assault did not end. While Yang Yi was falling, another heavy blow landed on his jaw. He was only able to free himself after he hit the floor.
Yang Yi had almost fainted from the pain, but he was still coherent. He clutched his stomach as he lay curled up on the floor. He stared at the woman, a hard look in his eye, and cried painfully, "Fuck! Why would you do that?!"
The woman with the ponytail quickly pulled up her pants. She turned elegantly and forcefully closed the washroom door.
"What happened?!"
John rushed up the stairs at the sound. He saw Yang Yi lying on the floor as the washroom door opened.
"Why are you here?" John asked in surprise after noticing the woman exiting the washroom.
The woman shouted with a face full of fury, "This is my house! Who is this bastard?!"
John looked constipated. His voice was soft when he replied, "He is… a friend's son. He will be staying over here for a few days. What exactly happened? Gosh, did you have to hit him that much?"
Yang Yi struggled but managed to stand up and walk towards the washroom. He apologized before staggering into the washroom still in pain.
John looked helplessly at Yang Yi when he finally came out of the washroom. The woman stared at him. Her eyes were filled with loathing.
Yang Yi sighed helplessly and said, "Sorry. I did not intend to. You should forgive me since you have already hit me."
John awkwardly added, "Kate, I did not know you were home. You did not mention you were coming back. It was just a misunderstanding. You should not have hit him. I have told you so many times not to be so violent. You…"
Her ponytail swayed beautifully as she turned and walked past John. She walked into her room and slammed the door shut.
After the door shut, John turned to face Yang Yi with an apologetic expression. He smiled bitterly, "She is my daughter. I am so sorry she hit you. Her name is Kate. Kate Jones."
Yang Yi was not mad, but he was deeply ashamed.
It was outrageously humiliating!
A beautiful and rather petite young woman that was probably a teenager had ruthlessly knocked him down. She bullied him making it impossible for him to retaliate. This was truly an embarrassment!
Yang Yi did not feel like he suffered too much from being hit, but he felt this bitterness needed to be repaid. He would not beat Kate to payback this bitter feeling. He would just prove that he had the ability to defeat her.
Yang Yi's face was full of determination. John smiled apologetically at him and softly said, "I advise you to give up if you want to prove that your abilities are superior to Kate's. Unless you want to suffer a greater blow, it would be best to just leave her alone."
"I was… was just… why?" Yang Yi said, reluctance evident in his voice.
John sighed before answering, "I accidentally went overboard when I raised her. She started training in boxing at the age of seven, freestyle fighting at ten, Brazilian jiu-jitsu at twelve and Krav Maga at fifteen. You should give up. You cannot defeat her."
