Yang Yi still had no idea what they would do in the future. But for now, he was just satisfied knowing that Kate wouldn't die tonight. With a flick of his hand, Danny gestured for Yang Yi to come inside.
"Come," he said solemnly.
As Danny spoke, he was already turning towards the door without waiting for Yang Yi, who was about to get up and would have to carry Kate all by himself. Yang Yi didn't mind, though. He was feeling much more vigorous now that he knew there was a chance of survival. With almost no hesitation, he carried Kate in his arms and quickly followed Danny to a guest room.
As the three entered inside, Danny gestured towards a sofa. After Yang Yi laid Kate's body flat on the sofa, Danny began to take off his suit and undo his buttons. He looked over at Kate, obviously displeased with the amount of blood she was dripping in his shop.
With a look of disdain, Danny furrowed his brows and said to Yang Yi, "Her clothes are drenched in blood. Take them off."
Perhaps due to some superstition, Danny wasn't willing to touch Kate himself. Yang Yi quickly came over and revealed Kate's injury, then flipped her body so Danny could examine the wound.
After a few seconds, Danny proclaimed, "There's a bullet stuck in her body. It's pretty troubling." As he said that, he took out his phone and called someone. "Come. We've got business."
As soon as he finished speaking, he hung up and contacted someone else. "Get over here now. Bring two people along with you. There's an issue here that needs to be solved."
Danny hung up the call just as fast the second time. He turned towards Yang Yi and gestured for him to sit. He said, "We'll wait for a while before the person arrives to treat her. For now, tell me what situation you've gotten yourselves into."
Despite being promised by Danny that he would help, Yang Yi was still not comfortable enough, to tell the truth."Can we talk about this a bit later?"
"We've got nothing to do for now except talking, so you might as well tell me now."
Yang Yi swallowed for a bit. Aware of the fact that he could not hide the issue any longer, he decided to talk. "We used to belong to a commercial spy syndicate, and we just stole some intel from Anthony Investment Company yesterday. There was something... very interesting and dangerous in what we stole."
Yang Yi sighed for a bit, then continued, "It was just supposed to be a normal commercial espionage mission. But our hacker… he found out that Anthony Investment Company was helping raise funds for an underground organization. I don't know how he even came up with the idea, but he decided to post the intel on the deep web and sell it for extra cash. So here we are. We just stole the Intel yesterday, and now almost everyone in our team has been eliminated by the owner of the intel. It's just the two of us that survived all the attacks."
"Seems like you did." Danny smiled, but a knocking noise interrupted the conversation. "Come in."
It was a Chinese man in his thirties. As he saw Yang Yi and Kate, who was covered in blood, the man's eyes widened. He asked Danny, "Captain, what happened here?"
"This girl here, she's injured. You, take her to my office and treat her. Hang on, where's the emergency kit?"
"I've got one. Just use mine."
After saying that, the newcomer grabbed Kate and began carrying her to the room. Just as Yang Yi was about to stand up and lend a hand, Danny smiled and stopped him, "Just leave it to him. We'll keep talking. So, who's the benefactor behind Anthony Investment Company?"
"The Marthall Family." Yang Yi replied in an anxious voice.
"The Marthall Family. Huh." Danny's eyebrows furrowed even more and the smile froze on his face. "...Your problem is pretty big."
Yang Yi suddenly became silent. Danny sighed and continued, "The Marthall Family isn't the main issue here. I know they sell some impressive firepower, but their influence is limited here in London. So who did the actual work? Who did the Marthall Family send to finish you off?"
Yang Yi shook his head. "I don't actually know that."
"It's pretty normal for you not to know." Danny scratched his chin for a bit, then continued his inquiry. "How many people did you say were killed?"
"Six. All of them were killed around the same time, and they were killed in their own houses by a group of assassins."
Danny pinched his chin, "Six? There aren't many hitmen who would go after that many people in London. Alright, continue. Actually, let's move somewhere else. The smell of blood here is too strong."
The two moved to a guest dining room and resumed their conversation. Danny ordered a pot of tea before they started. As he began pouring it into the cups, Danny asked, "So, did you inherit your father's work?"
Yang Yi shook his head, "No, it's a long story. I just entered the spy industry a couple days ago. The team I joined was led by her father. But before I was able to learn anything, this…. I don't know what to call it apart from a catastrophe, happened."
"What codename do you go by?" Danny inquired as he took a sip.
"Sorry? Oh, The Singer. The team leader goes by the alias, The Singer."
"The Singer?" Danny widened his eyes. "John Jones?"
"Yeah, that's him! It's good that you know him."
"Uh, I don't. Jones was supposedly a very cautious man, by rumor at least. He didn't seem like the type to make this sort of basic mistake."
"It's a complicated story…" Yang Yi laughed bitterly.
A man came to the room's door and reported to Danny, "Captain, we have a guest."
"Come, sit and drink some tea."
As Danny started pouring another cup, he looked at Yang Yi as if to say that he was still listening. Having roughly told Danny what happened, Yang Yi finished up the story with some minor details with the company of Danny's subordinate.
"I say Jones had it coming to him, letting his subordinates mess around like he did," said Danny unsympathetically. He sighed, "Even in his death, he left his burdens to me. Do you have the intel that dumb hacker took?"
Yang Yi pointed towards his suitcase, "I got his laptop, so it should be there."
Danny looked towards the newcomer and asked,"So what do you think, Ah Ming?"
The man named Ah Ming crossed his arm and thought for a bit before responding. He then began to talk after raising his head. "This isn't going to be easy. The problem isn't with the Marthall Family, but the hitmen they hired. There's also the Cicero Family, who is for sure not going to let this go as easily as the Marthalls would; revealing the identity of their business partner would be seriously damaging to their reputation. With two pursuers on their back, I highly recommend that we don't do anything. We shouldn't step into their issues.
Without disagreeing or agreeing to Ah Ming's advice, Danny smiled and shook his head, "No can do. This young man here is Yang Sheng's son. We have to help."
Ah Ming stopped in his tracks as he was leaving, "You are talking about the Yang Sheng?"
"Yeah."
Ah Ming began scratching his head as he let out a sigh. "I'll try to think of something. See you later."
"At least drink some tea before you go! Come, come." With one hand hollering Ah Ming to come and join them, Danny raised his cup in his other hand and took a relaxing sip.
