It was easy to be mysterious, but it wasn't easy to keep up the charade if it wasn't matched with actual ability. He would just end up being taught a lesson as a consequence if he was exposed.
Yang Yi did have the qualifications to be mysterious since he managed to kill the Boxing King. He had also walked out from solitary confinement. Now, he had even single-handedly defeated seventeen inmates.
Yang Yi had the backing and experiences necessary to be mysterious. Because of all that had transpired, it was difficult for others not to believe him.
"Sir, it's in your best interest to not know what my purpose for being here is. I'll leave once I'm done with my task here. So, we might as well maintain our current state. What do you think?"
Owen's expression turned ugly but his tone remained polite when he was talking to Yang Yi. "Who do you want to kill? Is this a gang-related revenge killing? Or have you been paid to resolve a matter for a client?"
"You have it all wrong. I'm not here to kill anyone. I can't guarantee that accidents won't happen but let me assure you that an incident similar to what happened with the Boxing King won't happen again."
Owen contemplated for a long time before he finally responded, "Raymond has broken the rules by sending you in here."
Yang Yi reluctantly said, "Trust me, he's actually clueless. Regardless of whether you believe me or not, he definitely doesn't know my true identity. In fact, none of you will be able to figure it out."
Owens' expression turned even uglier. Yang Yi twisted his head to the side and continued with a tone filled with indifference, "Look, none of you have any idea who I am. But I, on the other hand, know who you guys are. Oops, sorry. For the time being, I don't know anything but isn't it enough that I know your name is Owen?"
Owen lowered his voice as he said, "You're threatening me!?"
Yang Yi innocently said, "How could you say that Bro? If I were really threatening you, I would have said your wife's name, where you live, your children's names or how many children you have. So how could I threaten when I haven't investigated your background? Am I sincere enough? To be fair, is there a need for me to investigate you?"
Owen remained silent. So, Yang Yi could only continue, "Hey, we were talking about money just now. You're the one who suddenly changed the topic. Can we get back on track?"
After he let a breath, Owen said, "A hundred thousand. A hundred thousand dollars is a very nice number."
Yang Yi smiled bitterly as he said, "Bro, it's unhealthy to be too greedy."
Owen sullenly said, "This time around it was just a fight between inmates. There were some injuries but nothing serious. This kind of conflict is actually pretty common. However, what's going to happen in the future?"
Yang Yi curiously inquired, "What do you mean by that?"
Owen calmly replied, "I will be transferred away in a year. So, I don't really care what your plan is here. Maybe you are in fact here to kill someone."
"Oh?"
"Within this year, you can do as you please."
"Oh, that doesn't sound too bad."
"However, you can't kill anyone. There's no way I can cover up a death. Not only that, there's no way the Prison Director can answer for it. It's even better if serious injuries can be avoided, as well."
"That… shouldn't be a problem."
Owen sighed as he said heavily, "Taking everything into consideration, don't you think a hundred thousand dollars is a bargain? I won't increase your sentence and I won't report you to the Justice Department. You can accomplish your objective in here as long as you don't cross my bottom-line. How does that sound?"
Yang Yi didn't hesitate in responding, "I have one additional requirement. I will ask someone to send me a phone and you can't confiscate it."
Owen indifferently said, "If it's just a phone, I can give you one right now."
"Sorry, it has to be my own phone. This isn't something difficult for you. If you can agree to this requirement, we have a deal?"
Owen stood up without giving it a thought and said, "Deal."
Yang Yi chuckled and said, "Let me make a phone call. You'll get your money in a week. I hope you have a secured account for the money transfer."
Owen nodded and softly said, "This time around you'll have to be in solitary confinement for three days. That's not a problem, right?"
"What? I still need to be sent to solitary confinement?"
Owen waved his hand, "I can't break the rules. You must understand that there are lots of troublemakers in prison. If I made an exception and destroyed the status quo of the prison's order system, I will have a tough time maintaining order in here. Three days of solitary confinement shouldn't bother you too much. It's the lightest punishment I can impose."
"Sure, I should respect the rules. Let's go with what you just said. I will go into solitary confinement for three days. I will make the phone call once I'm out. How should I contact you once I am done making the arrangement?"
After giving it some thought, Owen said, "Just tell a guard you're not feeling well, you'll be taken to the infirmary."
"Good, we'll go with this arrangement."
Looking at Yang Yi who was still smiling, Owen could only sigh. He then opened the door and furiously said, "Drag him off to solitary confinement for three days!"
*****
Yang Yi didn't even fear a seven-day solitary confinement, let alone just three days.
Nowadays, he needed to exercise every day. However, the location didn't matter. Yang Yi wasn't worried that he would have nothing to do. Being locked up in a small solitary cell still wasn't very comfortable. He would also only be getting a single meal a day.
Yang Yi exercised while he walked down memory lane and thought about how he would be going hungry tonight. However, just before the day ended, a guard knocked on the iron door and loudly said, "3387, meal time!"
After that, the small window on the door was opened and a meal was pushed in through the gap. Yang Yi was surprised, not only was he getting dinner, the portion was much more than usual.
Although it was still prison food, the portion was greater than normal and the quality was higher. Yang Yi happily finished his meal and then politely returned the plate back to the guard. The guard then abruptly lowered his voice and asked, "Would you like to read something?"
"Eh!? What?"
"I have a Playboy magazine. Do you want to read it?"
Before Yang Yi could even answer, two rolled up magazines were stuffed through the window gap. Even the ceiling light which had never been turned on was switched on for him.
Yang Yi was happy, in fact very happy.
Apparently, money does talk!
After taking a look at the Beauty on the magazine cover, Yang Yi walked over to the iron door and knocked on it. A guard subsequently opened the small window on the iron door and asked, "What do you want?"
Yang Yi smiled as he replied, "Nothing, I just wanted to say thank you."
The warden chuckled in turn, "You're welcome. You deserve the special treatment. Just don't tell anyone. Most important of all, don't let our captain find out. I believe you will be able to keep this a secret right?"
Yang Yi froze for a moment. He originally thought this was arranged by Owen, but it seemed like that wasn't the case.
"Of course, there's no way I would betray you. So, don't worry about it, Bro. I will definitely repay this favor when I get out. Thanks a lot, Bro!"
The guard laughed, "After I am back on duty tomorrow, I will pass you a pillow so you'll be able to sleep better. Sorry, I can't get it prepared today. I'm going off duty now, see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
After the guard closed the small window, Yang Yi sat down on the floor with a magazine in hand. He came to a revelation. Although money was important and money does talk, a person's capability was still the most important.
