51. Lycan thorpes

As it turns out Ki was listening to every conversation I'd had about Greenland and the forest lakes wolves. He knew exactly where I was going and why. From the second I left he spent most of his time researching the forest lakes pack. Basically picking up where his brother left off.

Only he went further delving into the history of all werewolves and what he found shocked even me. As he was studying various scrolls and scriptures from all over the world he came across a passage written in the tongue of the lycans Thorpes. A pack of ancient wolves said to be more powerful then normal werewolves. After some digging it turns out his father was familiar with the language. He deciphered enough to tell the real story of how werewolves came to be.

Lycan thorpes had a mortal enemy, vampires. The vampires appetites were never sated. The more they feed the more they wanted to feed. The lycan thorpes feared the humans would retaliate agaisnt all super natural beings because of the vampires. A war broke out between the two races. The wolves wanted to protect humans from the the vampires. They formed an alliance with the humans to hunt them down.

Together they managed to find them and kill them til there was just one left. The last vampire was the most powerful, she began taking revenge on the lycan thorpes for killing her kind. The hunter became the hunted til there was just one lycan thorpe left.

'The first moon goddess!'

My voice echoed in our melded minds.

'Yes the first moon goddess. They were both the most powerful, but they were evenly matched in every way. In the end she could not beat the vampire, but she managed to trap her within a cave. With the help of a powerful witch she gave up her afterlife to trap the vampire cursing herself to be reincarnated over and over. With each life she lived the seal on her counterparts prison was renewed.

'But I don't understand how did Shiya help her escape then?'

Ki's voice sounds through our minds.

'Because the forest lakes packs are descendants of the original moon goddess with each alpha even if they weren't the moon goddess herself her blood line kept the seal strong. But when your mother died the time between when she was made alpha and when you entered the trials was too long. The vampire trapped within had gained some of her powers back. In not completing your training you were weak of mind upon entering. It made you vulnerable to her powers of persuasion. She feed you lies to help in her plans of escaping her prison.'

'How do you know all this?'

Instead of telling me he showed me. Not long after Ki uncovered the story of the Lycans he felt the pain of Zelds mark the day I fell on the cliff. He went into a rage forgetting all about what he had found out. His anger over my betrayal lead him to turn to Shiya. Cal tried to reason with him but in his anger he wouldn't listen.

Slowly I pulled my mind from his he was inches away from me. His eyes stared into mine there was so much pain in them.

"When you saw me that day I had every intention of going through with taking my anger out on the forest lakes pack and you. Shiya told me we were there for that very reason. It wasn't til she lead us to that cave that I realised what her real plans were. Luna is the one with the power to control minds not Quell. She has been using him to manipulate everyone into freeing her. By the time I realised what was happening it was too late."

"Why didn't you tell me any of this before? We out numbered her we could have won if you'd revealed who Luna was that day?"

He shakes his head.

"No you don't understand Shiya had more of her pack hidden just in case."

I growled.

"And I had the rest of my pack on their way! All you had to do was stall and Zeld and the others would have been there to even the odds."

"Well how was I to know that!"

I turned my back on him in frustration, but he spun me back around.

"Rave look at me I came to tell you I'm still on your side. I know your planning on trying to rescue Luna but she's a vampire. Shes your sworn enemy I cant let you fall into her trap. I stayed with them hopeing to find a way to help you trap her back in that cave. She's been manipulating you this whole time. She convinced you that the best place for the wolves was in the wild but she was only trying to trick you into leaving the world of humans so she could feed without interference. She knows that she can't kill you so this was the only way she could get you out of the way so she would still have the freedom to feed."

I stared at him I knew he was telling the truth but how would trapping her help. All that would do would give her a chance to escape.

"No!"

He steps back confused.

"What do you mean no? We can't let her run free."

"I know that but trapping her won't solve anything."

His eyes narrow as he tries to look into my eyes but I look away.

"Your not thinking-"

He grabs my chin forcing me to look at him.

"You can't kill her Rave she's too strong!"

I pull away from him.

"I can't let her live! What if she escapes again? What if she traps me instead? There's only one way this ends Ki and that's if she's dead!"

He shakes his head.

"If you really want to help you'll make it easier for us when we attack in two days."

I start to walk away but Ki grabs me catching me off guard he plants his lips on mine. Before I could even react a dark brown black blur attacked Ki forcing him away from me.

"ZELD!"

He didn't listen as Ki stood before Zeld his hands out showing he meant no harm. Quickly I rushed to stand between Zeld and Ki.

"Enough Zeld he shouldn't have kissed me and if you hadn't barged in guns a blazing I would have shown him that myself!"

"He had no right Rav your not his mate any more your mine!"

I growled.

"And I'm your alpha and I'm asking you to stand down!"

Ki reaches out to push me aside but Zeld growls at him making him pull back his hand.

"He won't listen to you Rave-"

I growled at Ki.

"Shut up you've done enough damage. If you truly want to help you'll do as I ask."

Using the mind link he says

'Rave I won't let you risk your life.'

Zeld starts to step forward turning I call to my alpha power.

"STOP!"

Instantly Zeld stops his eyes show so much hurt in them, but I can't think of that now. Without taking my eyes off Zeld I answer Ki's silent words.

"If you don't help we all die you know it's true."

Ki looks from me to Zeld.

"I doubt he would feel the same."

My head snaps around just as Ki's about to tell Zeld everything using my wind I suck the air from his mouth. Instantly he grabs for his throat but I've already stopped my power. Even that small loss of breath has him coughing.

"GO!"

He glares at me.

"Fine but he deserves to know."

I watch as Ki disappears through the trees. Turning back to Zeld I release him from his order just as Keyon and Loki come rushing through the trees.

"What did we miss?!"

Zeld shifts snatching the pants that Loki had brought with him as he turns on me.

"What the fuck was that about Rav?!"

Keyon and Loki exchange glances as Zeld struggles to rein in lone.

'You can't tell him Raven if Luna is a vampire our best chance is to catch her by surprise.'

'I know that Caryi I'm not an idiot.'

"He's going to help us save Luna."

Zeld throws his hands up in frustration.

"We can't trust him he's the enemy!"

"Raven if Ki knows about the attack it's safe to say so does Shiya."

I turn to Loki.

"It doesn't matter with the blue moon pack with us we are four packs against two. No matter what trap they set there's no beating those odds."

Zeld growls.

"Do you hear yourself your letting your emotions control your judgement!"

I growled at him.

"No that is what you are doing! I'm doing what I must for the good of the pack, for all the packs. I ask that none of you tell anyone about Ki's visit and if you don't agree I will order you. All three of you put your trust in me as alpha. Trust that I know what I'm doing."

Keyon and Loki frown, I knew they didn't like it but both nodded reluctantly. Zeld however was staring at me his anger obvious.

"Leave us both of you."

Keyon and Loki turned and left without a word as I stepped closer to Zeld. Reaching up i reached for his face but he stepped back.

"Do you still love him?"

I scowled at him annoyed at the question.

"How could you even ask that?!"

"What am I to think Rav Loki and Keyon come tell me your out here alone with your former mate who betrayed you for the enemy, fearing the worst I find you KISSING HIM!"

I spoke through gritted teeth as he continued.

"And to top it all off your hiding something. We promised no more secrets yet every turn we take there's something new that you refuse to let me in on, something that You have no problems sharing with Ki. What am I supposed to think?!"

I shake my head.

"It's not what you think Zeld and I didn't kiss him he kissed me-"

"IT'S THE SAME THING!"

He steps closer mere inches from me my anger rising.

"Do you enjoy dragging my heart through the dirt?! Do you think you can have the best of both worlds, me your obedient beta who your mated too while still secretly fucking your first love!"

I slapped him angry tears in my eyes, the force of my slap must have triggered something in him. Blinking rapidly his eyes widen as his anger subsides.

"God Rav I'm sor-"

"Fuck you Zeld! you have no right to question my fidelity. You know I would never betray you and to even suggest it is an insult on our relationship."

I could tell he was shaken by what he'd said and instantly regretted it but the damage was done. I pushed passed him, when he tried to stop me I spun on him forcing him back with my wind. Not enough to hurt him but just enough to show him I was in no mood to be around him.

"Find somewhere else to sleep tonight I can't even look at you right now."

He froze about to say something but stopped merely sighing as his shoulders slumped. I left him there as I made my way back to the house.

Before I left the trees I wiped the last of my tears away. I knew it wouldnt make much of a difference but I didn't want them to see me crippled by what Zeld had said even if they had no idea what was going on.

I was alpha I had to remain strong no matter what.

'He didn't mean it Raven. He's hurt and angry.'

'That's no reason to say what he did.'

'Your right I know.'

I make my way through the house needing the comfort of my room. Just as I'm about to open my door I hear my name. Swearing under my breath I turn as Damien walks towards me.

He stops his eyes searching mine.

"Is something wrong."

I put on a fake smile.

"No I'm fine what's up?"

Seeming satisfied he smiles.

"The packs are outside training I thought you could join us maybe show us some of that power of yours you know like you promised."

I don't answer straight away.

'You'd better do it they may start to distrust you if you refuse again.'

I sigh she was right of course.

"Sure. It would be my pleasure."

"Excellent I'll escort you down."

I smile as I follow him back downstairs.

'At least we'll get to air out our anger.'

'I suppose that's one plus side.'

I thought back on everything that Ki had told me.

'Hey how come you didn't know that we were the reincarnated moon goddess?'

Caryi sighs exasperated with my question.

'I'm not all knowing Raven. This life is new the curse must prevent us from knowing the details of our former lives.'

I press my lips together annoyed.

'Just when I thought I wasn't cursed any more turns out I've been cursed for centuries. Just my luck.'

'It's not like it's a new feeling at least this curse doesn't keep me from you.'

'True at least we have that to thank for.'

I sigh.

'Yes hopefully in this life time we can succeed where we failed before.'

'Well this time we have the other werewolves to help. I'm not alone this time.'

'Yes seems for once the odds are in our favour.'

As we walk through the door the sun hits my face blinding me for a second.

"Zeld care to join us your mate here is going to show off some of her power finally."

As my eyes adjust I realise Zeld standing before us his face somber. I avoid his eyes my anger rising again as my fists clench. Damien senses the tension between us.

"I'll meet you over at the training grounds."

I shake my head.

"That's alright Damien I'm coming now."

I move to push past Zeld but he grabs my arm turning to Damien.

"Could you give us a minute?"

Damien nods.

"Of course I'll let them know it'll be a little longer."

I watch Damien head to the training ground now surrounded by tents that were now the forest lake packs new accommodation. I growl ripping my arm from Zelds grasp as I glare at Him.

"I have nothing to say to you."

His eyes shadow my words hitting him like the slap id dealt in the woods.

"Don't act like your innocent in all this, I shouldn't have said what I did but you are hiding something from me. We're mates Rav there can't be any secrets between us."

I remain silent We can't risk Luna figuring out that we plan to kill her not save her.

"Please Rav talk to me."

I blink back the tears starting well in my eyes.

"Im sorry Zeld I cant tell you. just know that it has nothing to do with me and Ki. I would never hurt you like that."

He sighs reaching out to caress my cheek his eyes full of all the love I know he feels for me.

"I know Rav I was just upset and worried that one day you'll regret choosing me."

I stare at him shocked, how could he think something like that. Stepping closer I press my lips to his. His arms pull me closer his hand tangles in my hair. I pull away just enough to see his face.

"I will never regret choosing you Zeld your the only thing in my life that makes sense. I love you and while there will always be a piece of my heart for Ki it's nothing compared to what I feel for you. Your everything to me."

He smiles at my words but his smile soon turns into a scowl.

"I just hate that he touched you."

I smile mischievously.

"You'll just have to cover me in kisses to rid me of his touch."

Zelds eyes glow with desire.

"Don't tempt me or else Damien will not be pleased that you missed yet another training session with the packs."

I shrug.

"He'll get over it."

Zeld kisses me pouring all his love into it driving me crazy. Pulling away he quickly kisses me once more.

"I don't think he will but there's always after?"

I laugh.

"It's a date."

Reluctantly I start to walk away but Zeld grabs my hand.

"Don't think I've forgotten that your hiding something from me. I'd rather not be blindsided by one of your stupid plans like taking our wolves."

I stare at him knowing that he won't stop til he finds out what I'm hiding.

'Hopefully by the time he figures it out it'll be too late.'

'Not to mention there's still a chance Ki is lying.'

'Yes his aura is so mixed and confusing it's hard to tell if what he says is even true. I saw into his mind but with a mind manipulator on their side whether it be Luna or Quell they could have easily planted those memories there just to convince me.'

'Yes it seems this war is becoming increasingly confusing.'

I sigh looking up as the three packs were gathered around eager to see my power on display.

'Guess we will know soon enough when we attack.'

'If it is true though Ki's right Zeld is our mate he deserves a chance to say good bye if we fail.'

'Your right but we have no choice if we tell him there could be a chance she will see it in his mind. The less people that know about this the better.'

I can't believe my life had come to this, there was so much going on it made me long for my simple life again. The cabin in the woods my mundane job that I used to hate but now find that I miss it. The simplicity of it all, I think now I understand how humans do it. While it may have been boring to me at the time I wished I could go back to that life. A time when I had no one to worry about but myself. Of course then I wouldn't have been mated to Zeld and these passed weeks with him have given me memories I will always cherish.

A big part of me hoped that it was all just some elaborate plan to trick me. I just don't know what to think any more. Being alpha was becoming harder and harder with each passing day.

Looking up I entered the circle of pack members suddenly eager to get my mind off everything and just enjoy being a wolf.
