"I'm getting bored." Kaye muttered while playing on her phone. She's been playing for a while already but they're still far from home.
"How about we'll play a game?" Ivan suggested that got her full attention. She looked at him before asking, "You aren't afraid I'd cheat on you?"
"I don't think you'll cheat." Ivan turned to her so they'd be facing each other. Kaye wanted to laugh but he looked so serious so she stopped.
"Alright. What game shall we play?" it interests her that Ivan would be the first one to initiate a game.
"Let's play a question game. We'll have twenty questions each and we'll take turns in asking. Game?" Question game was a popular game to relieve boredom and it's a way to get to know each other as well.
"Sure." Kaye agreed instantly. She's got so many questions to ask and she's been given the right chance by the person involve. "Can I go first?"
"Go ahead." Ivan didn't mind who came first. As long as he can ask her the questions he's been longing to ask, being next wouldn't matter.
"My first question is, what takes up too much of your time?" Kaye asked him a question that was not personal first. She didn't want to scare him, of course.
"Most of the time, I'm occupied with work." Ivan answered her honestly but he didn't tell her that work corresponds to her. He's working to earn money for her. "My turn. My question is, would you rather have someone tell you the truth or protect your feelings?"
Kaye didn't speak for a while but stared at him instead. Truth be told, she wanted someone who would protect her feelings but she's used to people hurting her with facts. It's no longer new to her.
"I'd expect someone to tell me the truth. I mean, I never met someone who would protect my feelings, so I guess I'm used to people who would tell me facts even if it hurts." 'But I don't want you to tell me the fact that you like her. It would break me.' she screamed internally.
"I agree. But to the one I love, I guess I would protect her feelings even if she would get mad at me for not telling her the truth. I'm sure she'd understand." Ivan expressed his opinion that made Kaye blink her eyes to stop her tears from falling. 'Can't I be that person?' she asked him mentally knowing he couldn't answer her. Without her knowing, it was her that Ivan mean.
"So you've fallen in love? Oh, that would be my second question." she laughed at her foolish intentional mistake.
Ivan didn't mind at all. He just chuckled before answering, "I have. I'm talking to her right now." he winked his eyes in her direction. It took her a while before realizing what he mean.
Kaye's heart beat so fast but she realized it was a joke so she exhaled sharply to relax her nerves. "Hey, stop joking around. I was asking you a serious question here." she joked at him while giving his shoulder a light slap.
"Why can't it be you?" Ivan asked her back but he soon added, "I met a girl when I was young and I've liked her since then."
Kaye made an "Oh" sound when she heard him and it her that all along, she made a mistake. It wasn't that girl! Kaye's eyes widened when reality hit her.
"It was a childhood crush? You mean, it wasn't the woman we saw last time?" she turned to look at him and tugged his coat.
"Hey that's two questions making it your fourth." Ivan exclaimed with one side of his lips pulled up in a smile. "Anyway, how come you think it was her?"
"Ha? That? That was...I just thought it was her. Can I not think incorrectly? I'm not perfect person okay?" Kaye didn't know how to reason him, so she sounded sarcastic to hide her embarrassment.
"Well, I once had a relationship with her. I mistook her for that girl that I was looking for. In the end, fake is fake. I found out she wasn't the one. A relationship that is built from lies won't work. Don't you think so?" Ivan told her the honest truth of his relationship to that woman. Kaye was happy to know that it wasn't her but it didn't remove the fact that Ivan has liked someone since he was young.
"I hope you'd find her soon." she said softly. The sadness in her voice couldn't be hidden anymore.
"You sound sad. Any problem?" Ivan inquired since he couldn't really see her expression right now.
"I just remembered something. I also like someone. This is my second time liking someone, to be honest with you. The first one, he left and I don't know where he is now. The second person I like, he's owned by somebody already." Kaye couldn't help telling him how she fell for someone, wherein that someone was the one she was talking to. She just observed his face for any changes in expression, but it was the same. The same handsome face without any expression.
Ivan clenched his fist beside him. He just looked at her direction not giving away any emotions, but at the moment, he wanted to take her away and hide her. He wanted to show her that he can love her better. He wanted to let her know that he's the right choice, after all he was the one who love her first.
"Does...does the man you...you like know that you like him?" the question choked him. It was a struggle to ask her that knowing this would really affect him.
"He doesn't. I wouldn't dare tell him. He might think I'm a home-wrecker for destroying a relationship. Beside, I don't want to become a third party." Kaye looked down, a tear fell from her right eye. She didn't sniff, afraid he would know she's crying. She didn't wipe it, afraid that her movement would give her away.
'I was right all this time. Love sucks.' Kaye thought and another tear fell.
