MISSED ENCOUNTER

Kaye was distracted after knowing Ivan was back. The thought of him bringing her girlfriend back to introduce to his family brought pain to her.

She was supposed to get a massage but she didn't want to go there now. She didn't have the mood for it anymore. She dialed a number on her phone again and waited for a while before it was answered.

"Kaye, you've called. I was cooking so I wasn't able to answer your call immediately."

"Miss Maine, can I come and see you." Kaye spoke so low almost a whisper.

"Sure. Come to my house. I haven't seen you for a while." Miss Maine was so happy to hear her news of visit.

"I'll come in an hour. See you miss Maine." Kaye ended the call and took a quick shower, changed her clothes and left.

After an hour, Kaye arrived in the huge villa owned by Ms. Maine and her husband.

"Hello uncle Chad!" Kaye greeted the man who was cleaning his car.

"Hi Kaye. It's good to see you. Yve, is in the kitchen. She must be cooking your favorites." Chadwick smiled at her before he continued cleaning his car. Kaye walked towards the kitchen where Miss Maine was cooking.

"I heard you call him uncle Chad. Why won't you call me auntie Yve?" Miss Maine grumbled while putting some pasta on a plate.

"I'm used to calling you that name. Calling you auntie all of a sudden is awkward." Kaye pouted while placing her bag on the kitchen counter.

"Why don't you start calling me that name so we'll get used to it?" Miss Maine urged her once again. Kaye frowned before she uttered the word.

"Alright. Auntie Yve. I'm calling you untie." She looked at the woman in front of her. After a few seconds, they both burst out laughing.

"That was a good one for the first try. You get used to it." Miss Maine continued cooking. After a while, Kaye wore her own apron and helped the lady.

"Miss Mai..miss..Auntie..uhhm this needs a lot of work." Kaye sighed before laughing faintly beside the woman. She washed the used utensils and arranged the dining table restlessly.

"Just tell me whatever you want to say." Yvonne Maine Hue, the woman she looked up to since she was a child smiled at her tenderly.

"Auntie, do you know where Harley is now?" Kaye adjusted her mood and asked. It wasn't really what she wanted to ask but might as well say something.

Yvonne stopped for a while but she regained her fluctuating emotions on time before answering her. "I don't know where he is. The last news I knew about him was that he ran away from home."

"He was just like someone I know. He ran away from home but he's back now." Kaye told her.

"Really? Aren't you happy that he's back?" Yvonne asked her but there was a smile in her voice that Kaye noticed.

"I'm not being funny auntie. It's just, I used to like this person but now, he's back with his girlfriend to introduce her to his family." She was just assuming everything.

"Where did you get the news? Did he tell you?" Yvonne asked while placing the platters of food on the dining table that Kaye had cleaned.

"That's what he told me before. I guess that's what's happening now. He promised to get that girl back." Kaye confessed like a child.

"Do you like him that much?" Yvonne asked her again not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

"I don't know. Maybe. I gave up my happiness for him. I told myself to cherish the moments with him and let him go when he wanted to find her. I don't want to be an obstruction to his happiness. Do you think I really like him?"

Yvonne walked towards her and caressed her face softly. "If Harley and Ivan came to find you, who would you choose?"

Kaye was stunned upon hearing her question. She pursed her lips while her eyes kept blinking. After a minute of silence, she raised her head and looked directly to Yvonne's eyes. "I'll choose Harley. If he likes me, I will choose him. It was him who kept me going. Ivan doesn't like me. Even if he came, it must be to tell me about his engagement or wedding or whatsoever."

'This girl has a rich imagination.' Yvonne laughed internally at this silly remark. She smiled at Kaye before going back to the kitchen go get the remaining food. "Call your uncle so we can eat."

"Okay." Kaye answered and ran towards the garage where Chadwick was arranging the tools he used to clean the car. "Uncle Chad, it's time to eat." Kaye called to him.

"Just give me few seconds. I'll come inside after." Chadwick responded to her. Kaye went back inside to relay the message.

When all three were seated, they talked about their daily activities to liven up the mood. "You're managing the company now. How was it?" Chadwick asked while putting rice on his plate.

"It was okay. A little bit of a challenge for me, but I'm enjoying it." Kaye answered while putting some shrimps on her plate.

"That's good for you. Your previous job was kind of far and we seldom have time to see each other." Yvonne interjected on their conversation.

"How about your love life? None. A question with an answer." Kaye laughed at this statement from Chad.

"The person I first like left and up until now, I don't know where he is. The one I like now as a woman, has a girlfriend and is now planning to introduce her to his family. Just imagine my luck." Kaye joked but her statement were the honest truth.

"If he is here. It would be great to pair up the both of you. Don't you think so, Yve?" Chadwick asked his wife.

"That would be a funny sight. I'm looking forward to that meeting." Yvonne answered with mischief written all over her face.

"What are you guys talking about?" Kaye asked in confusion.

"Don't mind us. Anyway, you're still young. Love is just around the corner. You might not know, someone has been loving you." Yvonne said before eating her own food.

The three of them enjoyed their meal since it wasn't everyday that they get to eat together.

"Visit us more often when you're not busy." Chadwick spoke to her while they ate their dessert.

"I'll try as much as I can." Kaye promised before eating her slice of macha cake.

Kaye stayed until three in the afternoon before she left. If she stayed a little more, she could've seen the person she's been longing to see.
