They waited for about half an hour before they finally got their purchased gift. It was a gold bracelet with a short message and their names. 'WE'RE ALWAYS HERE FOR YOU.' was the short message in between Kaye and Ivan's name.
Ivan drove the car with Kaye sitting beside him. They arrived at the apartment complex with all the fruits and gift they bought.
"Hey hey. Listen, aren't they the ones who occupied the room at the 12th floor? The one that our landlady wouldn't want anyone to use?" whispered one of the girls who came from the karaoke room.
The woman she's with nodded her head. "That's them. They must have left for the guy's treatment. Look at him, he can already see. He's blind, remember?"
"Oh right. Now that you mentioned it, I noticed that. He was even driving." The two ladies keep whispering to each other while glancing at them.
The chief security guard who saw them was shocked at first, specially with Ivan's condition. A smile started forming on his lips before he made a salute. "It's nice to see you're back, young master and Miss Kaye."
"Hi chief. Thanks for taking care of the security. You helped Ms. Harley a lot." Kaye responded before handing him a box of sweets that they bought earlier.
"No biggie Miss Kaye. Thank you for this." the chief security guard responded with a wide smile.
"We'll go upstairs. Miss Harley must be waiting for us already." Kaye commented while Ivan just stood beside her with a faint smile. He was holding the fruits and sweets while Kaye was bringing the gift and his phone.
Kaye pressed the elevator button and they went up all the way to the 12th floor.
"I miss this place." Kaye spoke with longing to Ivan. She had stayed in that apartment for four years and it's the same apartment that made her met Ivan once again.
"We can always come back here. Auntie didn't let anyone occupy our room. She's been waiting for us to come back here." Ivan answered her with a soft tone.
Kaye didn't say anything after that. She was lost in her thoughts with what the future has to offer them.
'Ding!' the elevator opened and both of them came out.
Kaye pressed the doorbell and Miss Harley's excited voice came through the monitor. "I'm coming dear."
"Hi auntie!" Ivan greeted her joyfully while Kaye stood beside him with a beautiful smile.
"Hello Auntie Louise. We're back!" Kaye kissed her cheeks and handed her gift to her.
Louise Harley was so happy to see both of them. She led her inside the room with so much enthusiasm. "I'm so happy you remembered to visit me. It's been a while since I last saw you two. And I've heard that Ivan ran away last time. I was really worried."
"Sorry for making you worry auntie. I left to get my eyes operated." Ivan admitted and apologized.
Louise gave Ivan a gentle pat on his shoulder. "It's good to know you've decided to get your eye sight back. It's great that you guys are still together." Her voice changed into a teasing tone which made Kaye blushed deeply.
"About that auntie, Kaye was actually my childhood friend. Remember the child that I told you before. She was..." Ivan started recalling things and shared it to his auntie.
Kaye would sometimes put in some details that Ivan forgot. Louise had a great time listening to them while she prepared some snacks for them.
"That's the work of destiny! Who would've thought that you guys would meet once again and it was even because of me! I'm such a great auntie." Louise Harley praised herself cheerfully which made Kaye and Ivan laugh.
They talked about so many things. From their childhood to being roommates and to their recent interactions. Louise listened intently and would sometimes tease Kaye.
Kaye didn't feel awkward with the teasing but she blushed due to embarrassment. Later on, Louise decided to open the gift that Kaye gave her.
"Oh my! This is beautiful. I like it so much. Oh! You even engraved a message and your names on it. I'm so touched." Louise wore the bracelet before giving Kaye a warm hug.
Kaye returned the hug as she responded to her. "It was Ivan's idea since we couldn't find a jade bracelet that would suit you."
"It was my idea but it was Kaye who chose the bracelet and wrote the message for that." Ivan interjected since he didn't want to take all the credits for the gift.
"Then I'm thanking the both of you. This is such a wonderful gift." Louise touched the bracelet once again.
At six in the evening, Kaye and Ivan bid their farewell since Ivan still had to do the surprise.
"You guys aren't staying for dinner? I was really looking forward to having dinner with you." Louise stated with a sulking face.
Ivan whispered something to her that made her eyes lit up in happiness. "Really? I wish you luck then." she whispered back at him.
"We'll come another time auntie." Kaye mentioned while Ivan helped her to put on her coat and scarf.
"I'll surely wait for you guys to come. I'll visit you guys in your house, too." Louise responded to Kaye.
Ivan chuckled after he realized the underlying meaning of his auntie's words. Hopefully, the rightful woman would stay there in their house.
Kaye helped Ivan with his gloves before they finally left the house. They had to keep themselves warm since the temperature at night would drop several levels.
On their way home shile Ivan was driving, Ivan's phone rang which was in Kaye's bag. She picked it up and handed it to him.
"Answer it for me, please." Ivan requested after seeing that it was from her mother. Kaye's hands trembled from his statement.
With so much difficulty and nervousness, Kaye still managed to answer the call.
"Hello, auntie Yve?" Kaye's voice was tentative and low. It was the first time that she answered a call in Ivan's phone.
"Oh? Kaye? Is that you? How are you? Did Ivan do something to you? Did he upset you? Just tell me and I'll make sure to teach him a lesson!" Yvonne's voice held a warning tone and it made Kaye felt warm that people really care about her well-being.
"Don't worry auntie. I am fine. Ivan is currently driving so he asked me to answer the call. He didn't do anything to upset me either. In fact he wanted to surprise me tonight because his surprise last night was ruined by the rain."
Kaye's respond brought a smile to Yvonne's lips. It wasn't because of what Ivan does but because Kaye made use of the acts to cover Ivan from her wrath.
"That's good to know. Both of you should take care. Don't stay out so late. Make sure you tell me if he upsets you." Yvonne reminded her which made Kaye blushed.
Ivan who heard what his mother said replied to her. "I'm your son, mom. Why are you forgetting that?"
"I don't care if you're my son. Once I knew that you upset her, I'll really shave your head!" Yvonne threatened her son which made Kaye even more embarrassed.
"I know. I know. I won't upset her. We're hanging up now." Ivan ended the call after that. "You really have a big space in my mother's heart."
"Are we really going to talk about this?" Kaye shrugged her shoulders as she returned the phone inside her bag.
"I didn't mean it in a bad way. I was just thinking that you'd really be a great daughter to her, if ever." Ivan didn't dare to look at Kaye while spouting nonsense. He focused his eyes on the road but his heart was beating so fast.
"I'd be happy to have an extra mom like her, too. Before I was adopted to the Jimenez family, your mother was the one who took care of me. Since she was still finishing up her degree that time she didn't have much time to proceed with legal adoptions. So she made sure to find someone she could entrust my life with." Kaye told Ivan another piece of her past which didn't involve him.
"I see." That's all Ivan could say in front of her but mentally, he was so happy that her mother didn't adopt her at all. It would be a disaster if they knew he likes his sister. Don't you think so?
It was the same thought for Kaye. She felt glad that Yvonne didn't adopt her at all or she would just disappoint her for falling in love with Ivan.
However, none of them knew the truth except Yvonne and us readers. Yvonne indeed wanted to adopt Kaye but she changed her mind when a certain conversation happened.
"Do you like her?" Yvonne asked Ivan who was wiping the face of the little girl lying on his bed.
"Yes I like her." That was Ivan's response with serious determination. It was the first time that she saw her son cared for someone else. He didn't even care that much about his sister.
