Chapter 3: Taking On Quests

Shaking off the trivial thoughts in his head, Renan quickly skimmed through the contents of this newly obtained information to see if he could find anything of use to the current him. For a few seconds, he just silently stood where he was, organizing his thoughts and ideas at a rapid pace before finally arriving at a conclusion.

'So in short, the place where I'm standing right now is the ground floor; also known as the lobby. And directly above me, which is the first floor, is a pub area where Adventurers can drink, eat, and be merry. Next up is the second floor, and that's where all the good stuff can be bought. Equipment, weapons, items, potions, and skill books—basically, all the essentials needed when going out questing can be found on the third floor. Lastly, there are two floors remaining, but I don't see myself going up there anytime soon.'

Satisfied with what he learned, Renan opened his eyes and directed his gaze to one of the bulletin boards. At a glance, he could see that a lot of players were flocking that area, and another thing he learned was that all of those players were newbies just like him.

'That's the F-Tier bulletin board. When you're only starting out, you will need to complete all sorts of quests right there in order to gain experience and slowly raise your rank up. Altogether, there are seven Adventurer rankings, and from highest to lowest they are: S, A, B, C, D, E, and F. As I'm currently now, I can only take on F-Tier quests since it's strictly prohibited for a lower ranker to accept quests above their grade. This rule was only recently set up because of players exploiting the past system in order to quickly raise their ranks by hiring strong helpers to carry them throughout the quests…'

He thought all of this while walking forward and it didn't take long for him to reach somewhere around the bulletin board, and yet, he couldn't actually see the quests posted there since a lot of players were blocking his view.

"Tsk. How troublesome…" he mumbled under his breath.

Presented with no other way, he could only push his way through this crowd. Besides, it didn't look like anyone would hear him out if he were to politely ask them to step aside.

Sucking in a deep breath of air, Renan consciously straightened his back like a spear and boldly pierced forth. Roughly grabbing two men who were in front of him with each of his hands, he forcefully parted them away and proceeded to flit past the other groups. Sounds of protest and displeasure were heard here and there but Renan didn't seem to pay them any mind.

"Huuu~ I finally made it through." Renan breathed out a sigh of relief despite having multiple people glaring daggers at him in the background. "Now then, time to see what we got 'ere…"

Renan looked intently at the red-colored bulletin board and soon enough, a window popped-up that displayed all kinds of quests numbering in the four digits.

'Wow, that's a lot!' he inwardly exclaimed when he saw that he couldn't even see the end of the quest window no matter how many times he tried to scroll down. 'Hmm? It looks like there's a filterer here.'

Renan tapped it with his finger and several options were subsequently laid out for him to choose from: Resource Gathering Quests, Monster Subjugation Quests, Dungeon Clearing Quests, Information Gathering Quests and many, many more.

In his mind, he really wanted to take on the Dungeon Clearing Quests since there would certainly be rich rewards waiting for him upon completion, but he knew enough to restrain himself from doing something stupid. Logically speaking, it would require a well-organized team to get anywhere close to completing these kind of quests as the difficulty would surely be incomparable to just plainly hunting mobs in the wild. And another thing to note was that in Dungeons, there awaited only two paths for players who entered them—the path of extinction, or the path of glory—there was never a third option. You either get wiped out or you come back alive as a victor to receive your just reward.

'Hmm… Since dungeoneering is out of the question, I can only settle for Monster Subjugation and Resource Gathering Quests.'

Having made up his mind, Renan placed a check mark on the two options and pressed continue. Next up would be determining the level of difficulty for the quests. Now there are four categories when it comes to quest difficulty, and they are Easy, Medium, Hard, and Extreme; and they each represented a gap in the player's level and experience.

Easy difficulty quests needed one to be levels 1 to 5 while Medium difficulty quests levels 5 to 10—so on and so forth. That is to say, to challenge Extreme difficulty F-Tier quests, the player would have to be levels 15 to 20 to even have a go at it. But as he stood right now, doing Easy difficulty quests was apparently the only option for him. And so, after pressing the 'Easy' difficulty mode, the thousands of quests were automatically filtered out by the system until only a handful remained.

'Alright, I can finally start choosing.'

Renan browsed through the quests one by one while reading each of their headings to gain an understanding on what they entailed. A couple of moments later, he finally resolved to take on five quests--two for Resource Gathering and three for Monster Subjugation. He also made it convenient for himself since all five of them were set in the same location; east side of Elisa Town where the infamous sea of trees could be found.

Renan promptly closed the quest window and directed his gaze elsewhere towards the flight of stairs leading up to the first floor.

'Meh. Since I'm already here I might as well check out the pub and buy some items.'

For the second time, he roughly parted the crowd with his hands and moved on to the next floor of the Adventurers Guild—to the guild's version of a pub area.
