One Shot froze in place. Had she just called him darling? She approached him and he could see the desperate plea in her eyes to play along.
"What is it?" She asked in a sweet voice, but the smile was gone as soon as she stepped closer and a solemn expression entered her face.
Your phone, he thought. That I dropped somewhere. But he couldn't say that. But this way might even make it easier. Improvising wasn't hard for him to do, neither was acting. So instead, he smiled down at her as his hands reached out to pull her closer.
"You…" he said, his hand brushing away a strand of hair from her face, locking eyes with her. They were deep blue, he noticed as they flickered from his hand right into his eyes. No fear, wide-awake, but drained of emotion. Empty eyes. Too familiar. He leaned down slowly, taking in her reaction. She didn't flinch away; she didn't come closer. This was what she had wanted. Good. His hand traced down her cheek and lifted her chin slightly. As he bent down, he softly added, "…forgot this." And with a gentle tug from his hand resting on the small of her back, he closed the gap between them.
