It was the next morning, the first day of school. Everyone went to the bulletin board to see which class they were in.
It took me a while, but I found my name listed on the Class 1-S. It was a class designed for special students, those who placed in the top 10s. That also means that the class I'm in only has 10 students.
I looked at the campus map to see where the clasroom is located. I arrived at a lonesome building on the western part of the academy surrounded by trees. The building itself looks normal, but inside was like a paradise
There were familiars of people roaming the building everywhere, both fierce and adorable. The lobby was sparkling clean and there was even servants roaming about. If there are servants then that means Sebastian is also here.
I asked around if someone saw a butler in his early thirties with blonde hair named Sebastian and they pointed to the servant's quarters of the building. I'll visit him later. Class is starting.
Once again, I looked at a map. This building's map. I found the classroom and headed there. Most of the students were already sitting. I saw Jack, Elizabeth, and Ciel waved towards me and sat next to them.
The knob of the door turned and the door swung open. A bewitching lady with flowing red hair wearing a black one-piece dress entered the room. She walked infront of the room by the blackboard and cleared her throat.
The room went silent and she began talking.
『I am Lena Riveria, your homeroom teacher. Congratulations for getting into the top 10 everyone. As your teacher, I am honored to teach students as talented as you all, but one of you seems to be missing? Anyone knows why?』
A student sitting across us raised his hand and stood up.
『Yes, Miss Lena. Lord Roland will not be able to attend class today because he has a cold.』
『Hmm... It's a pity that he caught a cold. All right, then. Everyone.』
She clapped to get everyone's attention.
『You will be getting a new classmate tomorrow. Be sure to rise your expectations. That will be all. Goodbye.』
She left the room and another teacher went inside. This time it was a bearded masculine man. He had a long and thick stick on his back. He went to the front and introduced himself.
『What's up, everyone?! Don't you dare nod off now because we will be taking this outside! Hurry up and move your butts!』
Everyone groaned, including me. He looks like he'll be teaching us physical stuff. Stuff I'm bad at. This will be annoying.
We arrived at the backside of the building and there was a large clearing. The terrain seems to be smooth, but up ahead the terrain was rough. The teacher told us to make two lines facing each other and we did.
『Now, I'll be introducing myself. My name is Mikhail Viktor and as you have guessed, I'm your PE teacher.』
One student raised his hand and asked something everyone wanted to ask.
『Hey, teacher. We're wizards, not knights. What's the purpose of teaching us PE when we could just do magical stuff?』
『That's a good point, Sir Bachus. As you all know, knights and wizards, ever since they were a thing, had a deep rivalry between them. The Knights thought up of an idea. "What if we could use magic?". Not long after that, magic swordsmen were born. Now, us wizards have been at a deep disadvantage when tournaments between knights and wizards are held. So that's why we also thought "Why don't we also use strength as our asset?" And the result, well... Look at me. The third strongest person on Greenheart Kingdom. Wizards are frail and they depend a lot on their mana reserve. What if that was depleted and no one is there to protect you? What would you do?』
A student answered 『Run away!』
Jack yelled 『Hide?』
『Yes, those are acceptable actions, but not everyone is dumb. Your enemies will not let you run away and will always keep their eyes on you. The correct answer is to take arms and fight back. That, they would not expect. They would lower their guard if they noticed you're out of mana and that is the perfect time to strike. Understand?!』
『Yes Sir!』 Everyone of us yelled rhythmically. I was convinced that what the teacher said was real. I've been in a situation where I had almost no mana left in me, but I always left my back to my familiars. What if they couldn't come? I couldn't always rely on them all the time now could I?
『All right! First things first! Show me how well you can wield weapons! Pick what you think you'll excell at!』
He pointed on a shed. Inside the shed were various kinds of training weapons. Dulled blades and rubberized blunts. I took my time to decide what I'll choose because mastering a single weapon is better than being good at every weapon but mastering none.
I noticed Jack went for a pair of daggers and Ciel got a katana. There's no mistaking that they're good at those weapons because I've seen them practice with those everytime. Elizabeth hesitated between a flail or a mace and chose the mace. Now, it was only me left in the shed. Everyone was waiting for me.
『Take your time, kid. What you choose here will be accompanying you on your journey.』 Teacher Mikhail said to me.
I finally decided and went for a halberd. It's a weapon that has a long reach, a pointed tip like a spear, and a sharp edges like those of a battleaxe. A flexible weapon. But the tip is flat and the edges are dull. They can't even cut my finger no matter how hard I try.
『Now that everyone had chosen their weapons, you'll now be sparring each other for the next thirty minutes. You can choose who you'll be sparring against and you can change anytime. We have healers on standby if someone manages to hurt anyone. Now, begin!』
