The Unlikely Union

DRESSED IN WHITE, Alice sat in front of the vanity mirror of her bedroom. A dozen maids were running back and forth, each with duty in their hands that they scurried to accomplish. Although Alice had the least to do, she also had the most to finish.

After all, today was her wedding day.

She resisted the urge to grip the white fabric under her palms. Her skin was already glazed over in a sticky sheen of perspiration, her lips bitten so rawly that they had already puffed up. To say that she wasn't nervous would be an understatement. She hadn't known that she would get married so quickly, especially when she was still so young.
