In the organized society of the shinobi villages, shinobi are given missions depending on their rank.
The missions are categorized into five ranks, based on the mission's possible danger or level of importance. The higher the mission's rank is, the better the pay for a shinobi completing it.
The D-rank missions are assigned to genin fresh from the Academy. They pose almost no risk to the ninja's life and usually consist of odd jobs like farming and babysitting work.
The C-rank missions are assigned to more experienced genins or chunins. They are missions with little to no chance of combat against other ninjas.
Examples are guarding people against bandits or highwaymen, background investigations, eliminating or capturing bandits or thieves, and capturing or suppressing wild animals.
The B-rank missions are assigned to experienced chunins. They are missions anticipated to involve combat with other ninjas. Examples are guarding people, espionage, or killing other ninjas.
The A-rank missions are assigned to jonins, concerning, among other things, village-or state-level matters and trends. Examples are guarding VIPs or suppressing ninja forces.
The S-rank missions are assigned to experienced jonins and concern state-level confidential matters. Examples are assassinating VIPs, and transporting highly classified documents.
The missions are the lifeblood of hidden villages. They are the only way from which shinobi can earn money inside their villages.
Yoshi Uzumaki, Anko Mitarashi, and Kakashi Hatake, alongside their jonin-sensei, Sakumo Hatake, completed a dozen missions during the last two months in Konoha.
First, they completed fifteen tedious little D-rank missions alone when they freshly graduated from the Acadamy, without leaving the parameters of their village. They were as boring as their usual description sounded.
Later they completed ten more C-rank missions together with Sakumo on the outskirts of the village. Those missions were mainly about hunting wild animals who wandered into Konoha's territory from the nearby forests, scaring the local population.
And finally, just recently, they all completed even five of the B-rank missions. Those missions were mostly about protecting some people who had dangerous enemies under a certain period of time inside the Land of Fire.
During this period they also got the taste of the blood for the first time in their lives. Being enforced by Sakumo to finish off some bandits who were attacking one of their clients previously.
After completing one of those missions, they were currently in the Hokage's office waiting for their promised fee.
"That was the gist of it, Hokage," Sakumo in his jonin uniform explained the contents of their last mission to the Hokage plainly.
"Haha, these little guys are getting better and better. Tell me, Yoshi, did you finally master that jutsu I gave you before?" Sarutobi asked softly while looking at Yoshi.
"Yes, Lord Hokage, it was of big help during this last mission," Yoshi replied politely, seemingly full of respect towards this middle-aged man.
Sakumo looked at all of this and just sighed inwardly, he already knows some of Yoshi's inner thoughts at this time.
"That's great, I'm really glad it helped," He said while secretly looking at Kakashi and Anko next.
He noticed Kakashi's cold unapproachable nature a long time ago, such people are usually hard to manipulate unless you somehow break through their hard exterior.
But, also looking at Anko, he was a little surprised. Ever since that day of their graduation, she also grew somewhat distant from him, not looking him with those same old worshipping eyes she looked him the first time they met.
Not knowing any better, he could only blame it on Sakumo. Even though he promised not to meddle in their future decisions, he could've still explained to them the truth of those rumors back then.
That was really bad for him, but that just means that he has to work harder in the future, regarding Yoshi, that was what he thought.
Yoshi managed to fool him pretty hard, and in this time appeared very moldable and naive in his shrewd eyes.
You must know that Hiruzen Sarutobi, a veteran of both World Wars, wasn't an easy one to fool. He firmly believed in his conclusion, once he reached it.
After all who would've thought that this little guy posses a legendary ability of the Uzumaki clan, Kagura's Mind Eye?
The ability that allows him to change his chakra aura completely like he wishes, managing to control people's subconscious perception of him at all times.
"Alright, here are your paychecks for this mission. You can go now and rest now. Remember to take it easy for a while. Rest is pretty important for a shinobi, too!"
Sarutobi said kindly after handing them some kind of envelopes, probably filled with money.
Actually, shinobi usually don't have to report directly to the Hokage when they finish or start their new missions,
However, in special cases, like this one, when shinobi want to take missions above their current rank, they still must request permission directly from the Hokage!
"Thank you, Lord Hokage," They all thanked him promptly, and directly went outside.
Outside the Hokage's building, Kakashi suddenly said, "You all go ahead, I have to go and check the progress of that guy. The Academy should be over by now for today."
"Is it your friend whom you teach how to defeat you one day?" Sakumo asked his son curiously.
"Yes, Dad, it's that guy," Kakashi replied plainly.
"Ahh, I still don't understand why would you teach that annoying guy?" Anko exclaimed a little angrily. She didn't have much of a good impression towards Obito.
"Maybe Kakashi has his own reasons, Anko? We should let him go," Yoshi replied maturely.
Anko just snorted indignantly, and Kakashi went ahead directly.
After Kakashi left, Sakumo turned towards two of them and looked at them teasingly.
He pretended to remember something and said.
"Ah, yes, I remember. I have something planned down for today. You two go ahead without me," Sakumo said while looking at them a bit teasingly and then just disappeared afterward.
Anko cheeks turned a bit red and she stomped on the ground softly.
"Hmm, is that the case? Then how about going to celebrate finishing our mission successfully together this time?"
"Yes, you pay, and it's the Dango shop!" She regained her composure quickly.
"Okay, let's go," Yoshi nodded knowing that there is probably no escaping this.
Soon, they were walking around in Konoha's village center, passing by various people and shops on their way.
Yoshi looked at all of this, still not remembering any places which he saw in the original story.
And, while looking at all of this, he sensed two small but familiar charka auras going in their direction.
'If I remember correctly, these two should be Asuma and Kurenai?'
And sure enough, the two of them were just coming back from the Academy and going towards the Hokage's building direction. They wore their usual distinctive outfits and talked about something.
"Ah, aren't those Yoshi and Anko?" Kurenai, who spotted them first, exclaimed to Asuma.
Asuma also looked at their direction and quickly waved. And, soon they stood in front of them.
"Hey, Yoshi my man, I didn't see you in two months already," Asuma said friendly.
"Haha, we were just busy doing our missions," Yoshi replied, but then added teasingly.
"What were you two up to? Going on a date again?"
"D-date!?" Kurenai stammered embarrassingly.
Asuma also became a little red in the face, but soon fired back, "Aren't you two on a date, instead?"
"Haha, we were just going to celebrate our recently accomplished mission. Want to come with us?"
Yoshi wasn't fazed by Asuma's teasing and asked again. Anko wasn't much fazed either, already expecting such a response.
Kurenai was still in a daze from his previous remark, so Asuma replied, "Why not? I want to hear everything about your recent missions, let's go!"
"Follow me," Yoshi nodded and replied.
Soon all four of them were seated on the same table inside Konoha's most famous Dango shop. The whole shop was decorated in the usual Konoha style and all made out of the decorative wood.
They were eating Dango then and started talking, "So what do you want to know first?" Yoshi grinned and asked white sitting beside Anko on one side of the table.
"Tell me how many missions did you guys complete this two months and of what ranks?"
"Right to the chase, huh? Fifteen D-ranks, ten C-ranks, and five B-ranks. Pretty impressive for genins right?" Yoshi replied a bit smugly.
"What!?" Both Asuma and Kurenai suddenly stood up, looking really shocked.
Especially Asuma, knowing his father, he can't believe that he allowed freshly graduated genins to get and complete five missions of B-rank, usually available for only high-level experienced chunins.
But, he soon remembered who their jonin-sensei was and then sat down promptly, Kurenai as well.
"Haha, are you really shocked now, well you should be," Anko said proudly.
"Never mind that, tell us how hard were those missions?" Kurenai asked curiously, she really wanted to know what awaited them too once they finally graduate from the Academy.
"Well..."
Soon, after nearly two hours of fervent chatting with them, Yoshi and Anko finally left the Dango shop, going on their own way now.
"Bye, Yoshi..." Anko said sweetly after coming in front of the direction where she had to turn around to get to her home.
"Bye Anko, remember to prepare well for tomorrow. I'll ask the uncle to take us on our first A-ranked mission..."
Yoshi said seriously then made a small kissing gesture towards Anko and turned around to the direction of the Hatake's clan residence.
Anko watched his back and just smiled sweetly, before continuing on her own way as well.
Coming inside his home, Yoshi noticed that Kakashi already came back as well.
"Oh, Yoshi you came back, too? Let's go outside for a bit," Sakumo said once he heard him coming inside.
Soon outside, the three of them sat together in the garden, while talking about something.
"This is a really nice direction to go towards and a good idea to follow too. You're really creative Yoshi," Sakumo was impressed by the insights this little guy in front of him had.
Kakashi was really shocked too, once again pretty impressed by his childhood friend.
'Haha, I can't tell them that I stole the general concept of that idea from the Itachi Uchiha, a guy from the future!'
'But, that's just the general concept of it. My jutsu will be much more powerful than Itachi's version in reality...'
"I feel like your strength will jump to high-level chunin's once you master that jutsu successfully," Sakumo stated confidently all of a sudden.
His current strength now being around middle chunin's level after learning Multiple Shadow Clones, same as Kakashi's who already learned how to channel chakra into his sword successfully.
"Nevermind that uncle. How do you feel about going on an A-level mission tomorrow?" Yoshi asked full of expectations, Kakashi also started looking at Sakumo a little expectingly as well.
"Haha, you two little guys are really funny. Do you think that A-level missions grow on trees?" Sakumo asked teasingly.
"What do you mean, dad?" Kakashi asked unsurely.
"Well, A-ranked missions are generally really rare, even more so now, in times of peace. So don't expect to go on any, anytime soon at least," Sakumo poured them with a basin of cold water and then continued, "You should just stay put here, and practice well in peace!"
"You, Yoshi on your new ingenious jutsu," He said while looking at Yoshi.
"And, you Kakashi, on your thunder chakra nature and shape transformation I showed you before," He added while looking at Kakashi.
Shape and nature transformation are two necessary components for creating or modifying a technique,
While shape transformation changes the form and movement of chakra, nature transformation changes the actual nature of the chakra, altering its properties and characteristics.
Basically, Sakumo wanted Kakashi to learn to channel the thunder chakra into his sword as Sasuke did later in the original series after the time skip.
Lightning chakra applied to weapons, provides an increased cutting power similar to that of wind, with the addition of inducing numbness. This is achieved by inducing high-frequency vibrations within the object.
Sakumo was still very eager to make his sons even stronger at the moment. He knows that this time of peace is his only chance to do that assuredly.
With the next World War surely starting five years later, the possibly worst war in history by everyone's expectations, he is in a real hurry now!
He knows that his kids will surely be thrown into the chaos of the battlefield at that time. He knows how hard and dangerous for them that would be!
He just hopes that by that time, they would have grown strong enough to protect themselves, after all, he can't be there to protect them at all times like a babysitter...
And while Sakumo was thinking of all of that, Yoshi just thought about something else instead and sweatdropped, 'It seems that Anko will try to kill me tomorrow again for unintentionally lying to her...'
