I hardly see my mother

She cleared her throat, getting rid of the memory that crept up on her. "How about you? What's your family like?"

Fei Huangjin instantly turned frosty and for a while the car was silent. Ying Yue almost thought he would choose not to say anything.

"My family is different than most. I wasn't exactly close to my father. And I hardly see my mother, if at all. The most I am in contact with is my brother Haocheng. But that's because he needs taking care of."

She thought about Fei Haocheng for a moment, the external vice president of Fei International. He seemed to be independent, but he was always aggravating his older brother and he often went missing, which made a very stark contrast to how Fei Huangjin was like at work. Fei Haocheng also showed more emotions on his face in a day than Fei Huangjin probably ever showed in a year.

She didn't think he needed taking care of, though. She'd seen Fei Haocheng deal with some of their investors who tried to oppose the Fei family and he was quite intimidating, too. Not as intimidating as Huangjin, though. "What do you mean?"

He pursed his lips for a moment. "He's very dependent on me. And although he's very professional and very capable at work, he acts like a child when it comes to his personal life."

"Oh…"

It didn't come as a surprise to Fei Huangjin that Ying Yue didn't see his brother the way he saw him. Although Fei Haocheng was like a little kid when it was just the two of them, he could also be ruthless when it came to serious business. They were both brought up by their father, after all.

"Just a few days ago, he asked for a few days' leave to pursue an actress who had rejected him twice already." Fei Huangjin shook his head. "He just doesn't get it."

She laughed lightly at the thought before realizing that the situation seemed familiar. "I've rejected you already, and yet here you are."

He looked at her seriously. "Well, aren't we on the way to our first date now?"

"…" She raised her eyebrows.

Fei Huangjin stretched an arm to take one of her hands, squeezing it reassuringly before putting his hand back on the steering wheel. "Don't worry, I won't make you regret it."

The hand that Fei Huangjin squeezed felt hot to Ying Yue, and she quickly looked out the window, hiding her face behind a curtain of her hair. She blushed at his actions just now and struggled to change the topic. "Uh, how about your mom?"

"What about her?"

He was trying to dodge the question and Ying Yue could tell so by just listening to the flat tone of his voice.

He's not getting out of this one. He knows too much about me already.

"Why don't you see her that much? You're even lucky you get to have a mom."

Fei Huangjin glanced at her briefly and hesitated. He didn't hate his mother and of course, he was thankful he had her around, but it wasn't easy for him to get along with Lin Wenshun. He wasn't like Fei Haocheng who was easygoing with everyone. "I was never very close to my mother, even as a child. Must've been out of habit since I was always tailing my father. And whenever I do see her, she's always selling me off to daughters of her friends. I hate being auctioned off like that."

She looked at him funnily. "Welcome to the world of women. Most daughters are auctioned off just like that to bring money and connections to the family."

His lips thinned and a look of disgust flashed on his face. "Well, I hate it."

"So do most women."

"I'm sure they do." He flashed her a look. "But anyway, Fei Haocheng's different. For some reason he's always been drawn to our mother from very early on. And he's a bit spoiled so he likes the attention he gets from her."

"I can't imagine you having the same childhood as him." She grinned.

"Actually, we didn't have it exactly the same. My father had always been tougher on me." Fei Huangjin thought back to his childhood. He was forced to learn martial arts, business, socializing, and even horseback riding as early as it was possible. He didn't have the carefree primary school life that Fei Haocheng had. Fei Yangcheng had basically forced him to grow up right away so he could take over Dragon Club when it was time.

Fei Haocheng didn't even know about Dragon Club until he got in to high school.

Ying Yue cocked her head to look at him, thinking of a little bossy Fei Huangjin ordering people around. "You must have been quite the little CEO as a child." She grinned.

"You must've had boys falling all over you as a child." He countered.

She smirked and flipped her hair fluidly. "Perhaps, Mr. Fei."

Fei Huangjin frowned. They were already dating, what was she calling him Mr. Fei for? "If you call me Mr. Fei one more time I'll be calling you Mrs. Fei from then on."

She just laughed in reply. Honestly, did this woman even take him seriously?
