"Two months ago: The Haoxi Shipping company." He muttered in the dark. "The director of operations asked you out when we were hashing out the details of the contract. I decided not to push through with them."
She remembered the Haoxi Shipping company. It would have been a large partnership between them and Fei International, but for some reason, Fei Huangjin had backed out at the last minute. He said he had simply changed his mind. At that time, everyone thought it was a wasted opportunity and a lot of employees were baffled on the CEO's move.
Ying Yue's eyes widened and her look of disbelief melted into one of surprise. She recalled that a director of that company did indeed ask her out that day.
"Five months ago: The J.C. Group. I saw the president's son touch you inappropriately, so I dropped my investment with them."
Ying Yue stopped walking and faced him fully. Her bright eyes were glinting like gems. She wanted to look Fei Huangjin in the eye, but the street lamp behind him only cast a delicate silhouette of the edges of his face. She recalled that incident very clearly. The perverted heir to J.C. group had squeezed her butt when she passed by.
She didn't realize Fei Huangjin knew about it, or that it was the reason why he suddenly pulled back on the investment that day.
"I offered you the job straight away after your interview, even if you didn't have a bachelor's degree. I bent to your conditions before we signed the contract and gave you a salary you couldn't refuse. Didn't that seem uncanny to you?" He inquired.
She shook her head in reply and spoke self-confidently. "I knew I aced that interview. I thought…"
"Since I hired you, I almost always ask you for your opinion before I approve investments and dealings. Never did that strike you as odd?" He raised a brow at her. "I am Fei Huangjin, the eldest grandchild of the Fei's. I own Fei International. I command the Dragon Club. I can bankrupt the Xiao's and the Zhang's if I really want to. And yet I ask the viewpoint of my secretary before I put in my final decision. Still not unusual?"
Fei Huangjin watched the emotions at play on Ying Yue's face. The surprise that was apparent a while ago was now threaded with confusion, panic, and something that looked like dismay. Her lips were slightly parted and there was a slight wrinkle on her forehead. She looked so innocent and ethereal that Fei Huangjin was tempted to bite her pert nose to see if she was real.
"Why didn't you say anything?" She demanded.
He looked away for a while. The wind was getting cooler each passing second and he could feel the tip of his nose getting numb. "I was content… until I wanted more."
Ying Yue didn't seem to be satisfied with his answer and she scrunched up her nose in displeasure. "You were content? What does that even mean?"
"The past doesn't matter anymore. What matters is that I've long wanted to kiss you and just because I didn't do it when you asked me to doesn't mean I was rejecting you. Take it as delaying the inevitable." He tugged her closer. The woman's skin was already cold and her hands were stiff. It was a surprise she hadn't frozen over. Why didn't she bring a damn coat?
Fei Huangjin pulled her in to warm her up. Thankfully, Ying Yue didn't shrug him off this time and allowed him to wrap his arms around her as he buried his nose in her hair, taking in her unique scent. The material of her shirt was thin, and she could feel the heat emanating off him like the rising sun at dawn. Her stiff body soon relaxed, and she couldn't help putting her arms around his waist.
They stood there for a while in silence.
"You're freezing. Let's go inside."
"No."
Her resolute voice rang in his ears and he pulled back to look at her with a frown. He could feel her slightly shivering already. "Why not?"
"Because if we head inside, you aren't going to kiss me." Ying Yue released her arms from around him and put both of her hands at each side of his face so he wouldn't dare look at anything else other than her. She maybe a woman, but it didn't mean she couldn't take initiative and demand something from him, right? "You said one of the reasons you couldn't kiss me back there was because we were the only ones in the house. We're outside. There are cameras everywhere around here. You don't have a reason not to kiss me now."
Fei Huangjin didn't think anyone could surprise him this much in one day. This woman… did she really believe he wouldn't do anything else if he kissed her here, right now?
How naïve.
