Fei Huangjin was a bit taken aback at her statement, but he quickly recovered and raised a brow at her. "If that was a demand, I'd have taken you to the Civil Affairs Bureau days ago." He pointed out aptly. However, even if he tried to convince himself otherwise, her words had already gotten to him.
Did he really demand for her to marry him? And here he thought he had negotiated with her nicely.
The look of disbelief and annoyance on her face still didn't ease off with his reply, and she turned around to walk out of the office.
"Where are you going?"
She raised her chin as she headed to the door. "It's office hours, CEO Fei. I have to work, lest my boss berate me for being an incompetent employee."
His lips thinned as he watched her retreating back. "I'm taking you to the Fei household tonight." He blurted out.
Actually, Fei Huangjin had been avoiding his grandparents' and his mother's calls, and there was frankly no family dinner scheduled tonight at the ancestral house. But seeing as she was avoiding spending too much time with him out of the office lately, perhaps this would tell her he was serious about her.
Besides, as long as he called up his family to say that he was bringing her over, they'd surely rush to prepare for it.
Ying Yue stopped on her tracks and slowly turned to him. The initially confident demeanor she had on a while ago was now buried underneath a panicked expression. "Tonight?"
"What's wrong? Busy tonight?" He asked this purposely, even if he knew the fact that her schedule was completely devoid of any engagements. Big Boss told him she was suspended from Juyan until her situation gets resolved.
There was a flicker of hesitation in her eyes as she bit her lip thoughtfully. "No, but…"
But she wasn't ready to meet his family.
"We leave at half past five." He didn't give her any room to disagree and went back to perusing the documents on his desk.
Half past five? Ying Yue suddenly felt conscious. She was about to have dinner with the richest family in S city. Didn't she have to wear something a bit more formal? She dressed decently at work, but would it be appropriate enough for tonight?
What do rich people even wear during family dinners?
Realizing that she had grown silent, he looked up to see her looking down at the clothes she was wearing, tugging at her trousers with a frown. Unknowingly, a smile had already touched his lips before he even understood what she was agonizing over. "You look fine."
She glanced at him with a look akin to a deer-caught-in-headlights, and she quickly straightened her back. "I'm wearing too much black today. Let me swing by the apartment before we go."
He nodded. It was true… wearing too much black when meeting the elders would call for a bad impression. Fei Huangjin felt a strange warmth in his chest as he thought over what she had said. It seemed like she really wanted to get their approval. That was a good sign, right?
"Right--uh, I should get back to work." She fled from his office like she was being chased by a ghost.
As the door closed behind her, Fei Huangjin finally let out a large grin on his face that he'd been suppressing for the past few minutes. He picked up his phone and dialed Fei Haocheng's number. As long as he told to his brother, that talkative mouth of his would eventually find its way to the ears of his mother and their grandparents.
"Haocheng."
Fei Huangjin's sharp voice was like a blade thrown his way, and Fei Haocheng gulped as he wondered if he did something wrong again. The memory of his phone being thrown against the wall was still fresh in his mind. And although he indeed received a new phone, he could no longer retrieve the lovely pictures of his darling Lina that were saved in the old one. He started blabbing in a panic, "Brother Huang… er…. what is it? If you need me, I'm actually in my office. I haven't been absent the past week--"
"I'm bringing Ying Yue to the Fei household for dinner tonight."
"--and I've been to work on time so there's no need to remind me-- wait, what did you say?" Fei Haocheng stood up. He wasn't sure if his ears had deceived him or if he actually heard Fei Huangjin say he was taking Ying Yue to the ancestral house.
"Mmm. Tell grandfather and grandmother. Invite mom, too."
Before he could agree or disagree to do it, Fei Huangjin had hung up on him. "Hello? Brother? Sh*t. Why me?" He scratched his head and hissed between his teeth in frustration.
