"I never said I wasn't going to marry you!" She answered defensively.
A corner of Fei Huangjin's mouth hooked up. Unbeknownst to Ying Yue, she had gotten caught in his trap. "Oh, I know." His mood picked up. Perhaps there was hope in getting her to marry him, after all.
She shot him an exasperated look and folded her arms across her chest.
Mr. Yang glanced at them from the rearview mirror and shook his head silently. These two were like cats and dogs. One moment they're peaceful and the next thing he knew, they were arguing and annoying each other. But then again, that's how relationships get built up, right?
Fei Huangjin's lips pursed together and his arms reached over to Ying Yue, pulling her closer to him. "Don't be mad."
"I'm not mad." She rolled her eyes.
"Okay, you're not mad." He sighed, tightening his arms around her until she was pressed against him. He planted a soft kiss on the top of her head, and almost immediately, her cheeks turned pink. "Could you promise me you'll think about it tonight?"
She was already thinking about it.
Ying Yue looked up at his dark eyes and saw gentleness and worry in them. Could he possibly be worried that she wouldn't want to marry him? She resisted the urge to pinch his cheeks as she thought about how cute he was being. To think that for someone as bossy and scary as Fei Huangjin, this man would actually be concerned about that.
Her heart warmed and did a little backflip.
One of her hands shot out to cup his cheek, and she nodded gently.
He released the breath he was holding and his rigid shoulders relaxed. "My grandparents seem to like you."
"Your mother seems to disapprove of me though." Her lips thinned as she recalled what Lin Wenshun said about her. "She said I was out to chase the family fortune and that you deserved someone better."
Fei Huangjin pulled back and eyed her carefully. No wonder the two of them didn't look like they got along. He didn't think Lin Wenshun would act like that tonight. It seems he had underestimated his mother's capabilities. "What else did she say?"
"She said that I was a mere secretary with a meager income." She made air quotations and rolled her eyes for the nth time that night. "Ha! If she only knew how much I earn from Juyan, she'd slap herself silly."
His brows furrowed into a frown. Knowing Ying Yue's personality, she must've said something back to Lin Wenshun. She wasn't even afraid to speak up to him when she was freshly-hired, what more when it came to his mother? "Did you argue with her?"
"I didn't argue with her. I just said a few things that shut her up."
Fei Huangjin sighed. He should've known this would happen. "Did you bring up my father?" There was no answer from the girl in his arms, and when he looked down at Ying Yue, her eyes already seemed distant, like she was thinking hard about something. "Ying Yue?"
"Hmm?" She turned to him distractedly. "Sorry, did you say something?"
She was actually thinking about Ying Shen, wondering what his reaction would have been like if she brought Fei Huangjin home to meet him. He'd probably size him up and challenge him to a spar, taunting him with something along the lines of "if you can't beat me, you can't marry my sister." He was protective like that.
Ying Shen…
She really had to get ahold of his stash as soon as possible.
Fei Huangjin shook his head. "Nothing… I was just about to remind you that as long as you marry me, I'll do everything I can to help you with your brother, and that I'd never let my mother bully you."
His words seemed to echo her thoughts, and Ying Yue stared back at his serious eyes wondering if she should just accept his proposal right now. Marriage may not be something anyone should take lightly, but he was offering her what she needed, and if she was really honest with herself, she liked the thought of marrying this man.
But no, she needed to talk to Big Boss about this and think it over again tonight.
