Fei Huangjin's phone vibrated, and he hastily opened the incoming message with a clenched jaw, both uneasy and excited at the same time.
The message only had three words: "Yes, I will."
He closed his eyes, opened them, and read it again.
"Yes, I will."
The words didn't change. Fei Huangjin, who didn't notice that the ongoing presentation was about to end, slowly curved his lips up into a smile.
"Yes, I will."
He didn't think he would ever look at those words the same way ever again. He thought about the message over and over again. Yes, I will, she said. Yes, I will. Yes, she would marry him. Fei Huangjin made a mental note to ask her later to say those words to him. He wanted to hear her say them. He wanted to hear her whisper those three words in his ear -- yes, I will.
Yes, he would never get tired of hearing those words. Eventually, he couldn't stop himself from grinning ear to ear as he stared at his phone, earning him curious and weirded-out looks from the council of managers, while causing the sender of that message to redden as bright as a tomato.
Eventually, he couldn't stop himself from wanting to laugh out loud, and as much as he tried pursing his lips to tamp down his excitement, an awkward sound that was in-between a snort and a squeal escaped from his throat.
The people in the room stopped what they were doing to look at him, but he was oblivious to their attention as he was still looking down at his phone, his mind occupied with thoughts of a certain woman.
After a slight pause on Fei Huangjin's part as if he was surprised at himself for making that sound, he felt another laughing fit coming, along with the urge to scream out "yes, she said yes!" However, before he could make another sound, he heard the presenting manager awkwardly calling out to him. "Uh… CEO Fei."
Fei Huangjin immediately wiped the smile off his face as he looked up at the man speaking, and calmly transitioned back to the dependable CEO that he was. "Continue," he nodded.
The people around him looked among themselves as a slightly tense silence filled the room. The manager up front bowed slightly and cleared his throat. "The presentation ends there, sir."
Fei Huangjin's lips thinned and he cocked his head to one side. "I meant, that we shall continue with the next presentation." At the corner of his eye, he saw Ying Yue uncross her legs, her face still flushed, and trying to cover the apparent amusement on her face with the notepad she was holding. That little vixen… if he didn't know any better, he would say she purposely sent that message in the middle of a meeting just to fluster him.
"Yes, sir."
There was some shuffling in the front as the next presenter stood up to take his place, and then soon enough the air was once again charged with an electrifying seriousness.
In reality, Fei Huangjin's mind was still occupied with the thought of that text message, and he raised a hand to his mouth to clear his throat when he was actually just shielding his smile from view and attempting to control his emotions. Just a few seconds after that, he found himself unable to control his lips from pulling back once more into a smile.
"CEO Fei?" Just like earlier, the presenter now awkwardly called out to him. A dumbfounded look seemed to flash on Fei Huangjin's face due to his earlier preoccupation, and the manager repeated his question politely, "Sir, we failed to hit the mark on one of our branches despite the efforts of the sales and marketing team, and there was a proposition to temporarily do renovations instead while we figure out how to re-capture the market. May we ask for your take on this, sir?"
"Mmm." Fei Huangjin merely gave an unintelligible reply, which was so unlike him that the managers in the room started to either frown or look at him in surprise. He was still trying to contain his smile and the irrepressible need to laugh in joy, and he was trying so hard to control himself that when he started to give a reply, his voice went up an octave higher. "Well--" He immediately stopped talking and pursed his lips tightly together in an effort to conserve his professional reputation as the domineering CEO of Fei International.
After calming down, he ignored the curious stares around him and swiveled his seat to the direction of Ying Yue, who was still covering her face with a notepad as she silently laughed at his embarrassment.
"Miss Ying," he called out.
Slowly, she lowered her notepad, revealing a serious face that was tickled with pink. Unlike Fei Huangjin, she was trained to be able to control her laughter without making a show of herself. "Yes, CEO Fei."
