Check

An eerie smile appeared on Su Jianjun's face as he listened to the man on the other end of the line. It was because of this man that he was able to confirm the girl's identity.

You can never truly trust anyone around you -- Su Jianjun lived with that principle. And it seems, Ying Yue should've lived with that, too. "Good. Update me when she's about to find it."

"Mmm."

The call ended as abruptly as it began.

Silence filled the empty spaces of Su Jianjun's office at Changsu, giving it a mysterious vibe. The room was also half-bathed in darkness, with only his desk lamp turned on, shedding white light to the chessboard he was toying with.

He picked up a black rook and extended it diagonally towards an open space that placed it one move away from eating up the white king. "Check," he whispered to no one.

His other hand then reached out for the white queen and he knocked over the black rook forcefully with a flick of the wrist.

"Check no more." A smile gradually brightened up his face, making his face seem innocent despite the meaning behind it.

Ying Yue woke up feeling cold despite the thick quilt covering her, and she reached out blindly beside her to look for Fei Huangjin's warmth. Her eyes opened when she realized that his side of the bed was empty.

She glanced at the clock on the bedside and realized that it was almost six in the morning. Fei Huangjin usually woke up at five. She usually did, too, but after reprimanding him with making a business deal out of their marriage and making up by making out afterwards, they got busy with packing and moving her stuff to his house. It took them all afternoon and a big chunk of the night, but some of her weapons were still left at her apartment. She got tired and fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.

Her lips twisted into a pout. Just a few weeks without any spy work and her endurance was getting low.

Fei Huangjin was setting up the table just as Ying Yue walked in, and she squealed as she saw the breakfast spread on the table. Having a husband who's good at cooking wasn't such a bad deal after all. There was no more need for takeout breakfasts from the deli across the company.

She started eating before he could even sit down.

With a sly smile, Fei Huangjin slid the morning newspaper towards her. "Our marriage announcement is out."

Ying Yue narrowed her eyes at him as she cocked her head to one side to peek at the newspaper. A colored photo of the two of them casually laughing at the civil affairs bureau was plastered on it, with headlines that read, 'FEI INTERNATIONAL CEO GETS MARRIED.'

"My grandparents will be up anytime now. I'm expecting them to call. Mother doesn't wake up until later." As if on cue, there was a vibrating sound coming from his phone, and the screen flashed with his grandfather's name. "I'll take this in the study. Go ahead and eat. We'll be leaving at seven."

"Don't take too long." She eyed him with a wary look, but continued to eat. Breakfast was her favorite meal of the day, and no one was going to take her away from this particular meal.

Suddenly, her phone stared vibrating, too.

She ignored it until it rang again after she finished eating. There was an unknown number on the screen, which made her hesitate to answer. But after thinking about it, she thought that maybe it was Fei Huangjin's grandmother, and so she accepted the call only to find out that it wasn't.

"How shameless could you be to marry my son?"

And here she thought Lin Wenshun wasn't going to wake up 'til later.

Lin Wenshun didn't have a choice, really. She was woken up by her beauty sleep by the calls from her friends who were bombarding her with questions about the girl her son had married. Confused, she had the maid bring the morning paper, and she almost had a heart attack when she saw it.

"Good morning to you too, Mrs. Fei." Her fingers tapped on the table as a mischievous smirk appeared on her face. "I'm sorry, that was disrespectful of me. I should have called you 'mother.'"
